Peter Kay should he handle hecklers better?

Doloresparton · 11/02/2025 20:55

Apparently Peter Kay had 3 hecklers removed from his show on Saturday night.
One man, who was with his ds, kept shouting garlic bread.
The woman that was removed shouted I love you Peter Kay.

Should a renowned comedian handle hecklers with more wit or should ?drunk hecklers be thrown out.

If you’re in the audience for any sort of live performance, whether musical, play or comedy, I think you should shut the fuck up and behave, other than laughing, clapping or if participation is asked for. It’s just fucking respect. You’ve paid good money to go watch a professional do their thing, and more importantly so have hundreds of other people, so let them!

Drunk hecklers are NEVER as funny as they think they are.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 11/02/2025 22:38

John Bishop put a video up on his Instagram page a few weeks ago if a drunk man in the front row at one of his shows who got up on stage with him and refused to leave. John handled it well but it was a slightly uncomfortable watch because you don't know how the drunk will react.
The best thing to do is get them evicted early doors. If they want to pout at cry foul to the papers afterwards that's up to them but really is only making themselves look more stupid.

LuluBlakey1 · 11/02/2025 22:38

I have seen Peter Kaye live and he was awful. It was an expensive, short performance. He was 'brittle' and not very funny, no encore and all the traffic in the car park was held up afterwards while he emerged, surrounded by security, and took off from the venue in a helicopter, refusing to speak to waiting fans. Nothing about him impressed us.

They should be thrown out. People have paid a lot to go and enjoy the show not listen to drunken people screaming out

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 11/02/2025 22:46

Good for him. I'm done with hecklers at comedy events. We went to see Kevin Bridges and a stupid pissed heckler absolutely ruined it for all of us.

Jimmy Carr is on another level of being able to respond to hecklers very quickly. Peter is more of an energetic performer and does not have the same level of quick thinking.

Edited

Are you saying Peter Kay isn't very intelligent? 😆

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 11/02/2025 22:47

@LuluBlakey1 I can't really blame him for not wanting to hang about and chat to people. They paid to see him preform but nobody is entitled to a personal audience with afterwards. He probably just wanted to get home too.

Don't blame you for being livid at being held in traffic though. That's the one thing I hate about arena gigs, it takes nearly as long to leave the carpark as it did to sit through the show. Wouldn't mind my own helicopter for that part!

murasaki · 11/02/2025 22:55

I've seen Jimmy Carr twice and he's good at hecklers, but then his hecklers were better.

This was basic bitch level, i have one catch phrase.

I'm amused that the woman is offended by being compared to Lisa Riley, and Lisa has no shits to give, well done her. She did look like her and has chosen to focus on the weight which wasn't the point. Well done Lisa Riley, classy.

Whenever there’s a thread on mumsnet asking if anyone has met anyone famous and what were they like,Peter Kay’s name has come up a few times and they all said he was rude and a bit of an arsehole

I've read things on various comedy forums about him not being well liked by many other comedians and various people who've worked with him.

I also haven't heard any positive reviews from anyone who's been to see his recent tours, including from people who loved his earlier live gigs.

I've never seen him live myself but loved Phoenix Nights, etc.

catin8oots · 11/02/2025 23:05

He's an unfunny moron. I would literally heckle him just to get the fuck out of there

I’ve not seen a live comedian since Ken Dodd years ago.
I think Live at the Apollo is good for showcasing new talent.
I love Troy Hawke.

I like Troy Hawke too, he's very imaginative. Liked his Kanye West, Scrabble and the CIA routine.

XenoBitch · 11/02/2025 23:08

It can be amusing how the comedian handles the heckler... but some comedians have no patience for that.
I saw Nabil Abdulrashid in a small venue in my town. A couple of women in the front row actually told him to speak quieter as they were recording "for our socials". They got told off for that. Later on, they said something, and Nabil told them to stop and that they were not being nice. They said something again, he said "fuck off", and they got escorted out. They bitched for the entire time they were being moved on. There was huge round of applause.
They wasted time, and their own money.
The best bit was what Nabil said to them as they were being told to leave their seats. "I don't interrupt you when you are shop lifting". 😂

MrsMoastyToasty · 11/02/2025 23:09

Years ago I went to see Jason Donovan in The Rocky Horror show. I know heckling is expected during the show but one part of the audience were heckling him and it wasn't about the show, it was personal and it was nasty. Jason turned to them after one particularly nasty comment and totally in character as Frank n Furter said " You might not like what I'm doing Darling, but I'm getting paid...and you're the one paying ".

dixon86 · 11/02/2025 23:14

Nobody would heckle Frankie Boyle. The guy is unhinged

Ooh, we're booked into see Nabil soon, am there for his heckling responses if the situation arises...

In a small venue too...

I think since Covid and lockdowns many people have forgotten how to behave in public. Drunk and obnoxious behaviour, phones and loud talking in inappropriate places, no sense of personal space or boundaries. I’ve noticed it so much during shows etc, I’m glad artists are dealing with the more overt annoying behaviour, it spoils it for everyone else.

I agree with this. Post Covid so many people seem to have no self awareness or manners. It’s all about pleasing themselves and to hell with everyone else. So many really aggressive unpleasant people around these days.

I've met Peter Kay twice, both times at charity events and he was lovely, genuinely nice guy. I will always be a fan

SassK · 11/02/2025 23:49

The big lass thought she was saving the show, getting a sing song going <cringe>
She also did a wee 'who me' gesture, thinking the audience would cheer her, instead they demanded she get booted 😂

He strikes me as having a fragile ego.

Does it indicate a fragile ego to not like some drunken tosspot shouting at you whilst you work? In that case, colour me snowflake.

Getitwright · 11/02/2025 23:52

Saw him live last July. It was the funniest live comic show I have ever seen, and worth every penny. Mind I’m Northern born and fully understand his humour.

All for drunks being thrown out👍

He arrived as part of a group of 6ish people at a restaurant I was working at years ago and was given privacy because there were a load of teenagers and young adults working there and excited to see him.

His team sorted out with restaurant management that they’d have a couple of mins with the staff before they go but they pissed off before anyone got a chance to have a pic etc… put me right off him from then on. It was over 20 years ago.

Lovelysummerdays · 11/02/2025 23:57

Ive been at comedy shows where hecklers have genuinely been my favourite thing about the show. Best done in small venues and an odd dry one liner. Noisy drunks at big shows should be booted out.
