Ways to not buy American

I know the obvious brands that are fast food, fizzy drinks etc but I'm not sure about the overarching companies that are American owned and brands that I might miss.
It might be a small and solo protest but I'm determined.

Hi. Re boycotting American profucts/ firms. Apparently Walmart doesn't own Asda anymore. It is difficult but we could all try not purchasing one or two brands..

They still own a 10% share in it and rest is owned by TDR capital and the Issa brothers.

Or just call it black coffee.

Whilst you are rhinking of boycotting all goods American are you also thinking about the regular hard working people just like us who could lose their jobs through no fault of their own? Not everyone voted for Trump.

Eastprestongent · 10/03/2025 22:07

Freedom fries? Gulf war two

jomartin281271 · 12/03/2025 17:07

Donald Trump has declared economic war on the rest of the world. It's going to increase the cost of living in this country and we'll all be a little poorer. The only way to deal with this is to fight back and boycott American products, particularly anything that is grown or manufactured in America. I like America, and I've always thought the Americans I've encountered when I visited there were great. But if jobs are lost in the US then maybe they'll put pressure on their government to stop this madness and stop being so confrontational.

Wow. Some will have some parts. Hardly world leaders

There's a very good chance your non American car will be packed full of American microchips. I used to work for a semiconductor company and I can't remember the figures but basically the car wouldn't be much good without them.

Fedupwiththeworld · 15/03/2025 10:43

Donald Trump may not imposing tariffs on the UK yet but trust me it will come. He is a danger to humankind and democracy.

Thats fine though isn't it? Most people on here don't want to buy or sell anything to, or have anything to do with America so tariffs will suit them down to the ground. So he would be a bonus to humankind and democracy to them.

Win- win.

I can have an opinion as to where my money is spent, I choose not to support through my money regimes that are not aligned with my thoughts, a regime that has cancelled all foreign aid is not a regime I wish to give any money to.

I don’t see anyone boycotting China and their Temu products made by kids, idiots

EarlNeedsAHome · 03/04/2025 19:09

@pompey38 I think quite a lot of people totally avoid Temu and Shein though? They are definitely perceived to be unethical and bad for the environment by anyone that tries to shop with a conscience. I'm not boycotting either America or China specifically but I try and spend my money with B corp companies and on food produced to higher welfare standards as much as possible.

You don't see anybody boycotting Temu or shittin? Some of us would never dream of spending hard earned cash on land fill junk in the first place.

You need to mix with more principled folk then @pompey38 .

Luddite26 · 04/04/2025 08:30

I was recently chatting to someone who works for a UK company which supplies supermarkets with own brand cleaning products. So that's worth baring in mind when dropping Proctor and Gamble - and I'm sure many people already didn't buy off them because of their animal testing policies anyway. But many supermarket own brands are UK made. Also there is the reasonably priced company Astonish family business based in Bradford very good products.

HermioneWeasley · 04/04/2025 09:53

Agree @Luddite26 I’ve recently switched to astonish and its really good!

Luddite26 · 04/04/2025 18:07

QVC is a US company which I have purchased from regularly which I am currently resisting. It' is also good for our own pockets !

Well I’m already not buying/using 24 of those. We don’t have to be perfect to make a collective impact.

He will cave. The stock market will see to that.

MoscowAgentGovernsAmerica · 04/04/2025 19:13

To deliver my blow to the U.S.A.S.S.R economy i proudly have now given up...
taki's
Keloggs
Taco bell
Maccies
Ranch dressing
Bright orangey yellow cheese stuff
Giant enbarmed pickles in semi stable chemical solution (bagged)
Youtube (tough but rocking it)

It was tough to begin with but after 2 weeks I have to say I feel great! My skin is clearer. I've lost 15lbs and my mental wealth is accumulating nicely! 😀

If you never bought it anyways, does it have any impact?

i don’t buy from any number of brands, us or otherwise, but that hardly constitutes a boycott
