Inconsequential things people say that ^really^ disproportionately and irrationally piss you off.

My mum jokingly calls me a "tight arse" and it really, really makes me want to throw things. I'm not a tight arse. I love Iceland Food Warehouse. I love charity shops. I love Savers. I love vinted. I love a bargain. None of this makes me a tight arse.

Another one is concerning my home office which is in a converted outhouse in my garden. It make me absolutely murderous when people ask "Isn't it cold?" like I didn't employ a professional builder, didn't get it fully insulated, didn't get good heating installed.

Both of these things happened today. And my period unexpectedly arrived. I want to throw things and hurt people.

Tell me what other completely inane, inconsequential things people say that make you want to throw things and hurt people.

For those of you wondering if people say stupid things about physical illnesses and disabilities, yes they do!

If anyone else asks whether I have "tried turmeric" for my arthritis I could punch their lights out (if I had enough strength).

Yes, I'm sure that my daily 11 tablets and fortnightly injections could be replaced by a turmeric shot (they have them in M&S and Sainsbury's don't you know). I am sure that I wouldn't have had to be retired 20 years early on medical grounds and spend 90% of my life at home.

Oh yes, yoga is also good for arthritis. No shit sherlock but I haven't been able to get in and out of the bath for 12 years so definitely can't get down on the floor.

And breathe ..

So dramatic, I think they are trying to be helpful

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 28/01/2025 22:01

If they were really being helpful, @Factchecking7, they would stop to consider that maybe, just maybe, if these things actually worked, the NHS would be telling their patients about them! Or that people with a chronic and painful disease are definitely going to have done their research into anything that might help them.

It is just bloody patronising.

After today, a great deal of what my Manager comes out with! 😡 Although I would claim my reaction isn’t disproportionate or irrational!

When my (lovely) DP tells me when he's done a job or chore around the house. Gives me the rage. Does he want a medal?
Imagine if I made an announcement every time I did a job around the house ?!

Start doing so and see how he takes it. "I've done the hoovering, Ta Da!"

Sorry, forgot to add on mn people saying they are/ were a people pleaser- they never ever sound like one, especially as then generally launch into how they’re going to massively mess something around because they need to start thinking of themselves. Or people accusing someone of being a people pleaser/ soft as if it’s a bad thing - how awful to have nice people in the world 😅😅😅

maudelovesharold · 29/01/2025 10:43

“How’s your little job going?”

No, I’m not going to reveal that I’m Head of Product Development with a multi-national, and yes, it’s part-time, but how bloody patronising!

Referring to cancer and other illnesses as a battle is very tabloid.

People who use myself instead of my Confused

People which think they have the answers to us who live with long term condition, the ol yoga and turmeric brigade, aaargh!

People who swear and then make a joke about their “Tourette’s syndrome”. Tourette’s really isn’t a joke, and what they’ve said minimises it and perpetuates a damaging and inaccurate stereotype but if you challenge them they’re like chill, it’s just a joke. I HATE them.

Couldn't agree more! My pet hate is people forgetting something for 3 seconds and saying "Oops, it must be Alzheimer's ha ha ha!" Various members of my family have had dementia & it is not just forgetting things! They were frightened, helpless & it was fucking awful for them & awful to witness. It's so not funny.

I clean quite a lot because I like it clean and I get anxious if there is too much stuff about. An ex friend used to always say I had OCD. No I do not. I don't have intrusive thoughts. It's just the way I am.

My DM always said I was either lucky or things I achieved were easy. Oh yes it's very lucky and easy to get degrees and buy your home by yourself and pass your driving test and get a good job. Not that she did any of it.
