Tinned Soup

ChippySauce · 23/01/2025 12:49

Not feeling great and trying to fend off a cold I feel is brewing.
Just looked through the cupboards and found a can of Heinz minestrone so that will be lunch.
There's also one can of M&S Cream of Chicken, but I fancy something tomato based.
I think they're from an ocado order DH must've done 😄

Do you like tinned soup?
Any favourites?

The only ones I like are Heinz Mulligatawny every now and then
Or
Baxters French Onion.

Tinned soup is so pricey though, I rarely buy it these days

Tissuesandfluff · 23/01/2025 12:58

I like cream of chicken when I'm feeling ill with bread or a cracker to dunk. ..tomato has started to give me heartburn.

GameOfJones · 23/01/2025 12:58

In general I prefer the Covent garden fresh soups in the cardboard containers or the tubs of fresh soup from M&S but tinned soup is definitely handy so we usually always have a few in. Like a PP, Baxters French onion is my favourite and if I'm ill I have Heinz cream of tomato for the comfort factor.

We like the Baxter's tomato, orange and ginger when we're coldy!

DD also likes same brand carrot and butterbean.

Ultimate comfort food though is the fresh Sully and Cully chowder soup and the price isn't much different to a tin...

CherryMarigold · 23/01/2025 13:06

Baxter's lentil and bacon is the only one I like.

woodymumoftwo · 23/01/2025 13:07

Big soup for me 👍🏼

ThirdStorm · 23/01/2025 13:07

Not tinned but I love the Co-Op's chicken and veg chilled soup. So delicious and chunky too.

BobbyBiscuits · 23/01/2025 13:09

The only one can stand is cream of tomato. With black pepper and a sprig of basil! I don't like the level of cornflour they put in them. Too gloopy and heavy.
So I'm not really a fan sadly.

Horrace · 23/01/2025 13:10

After gallbladder surgery a few years back, all I could stomach for 2 weeks was M&S fresh tomato soup.
That's was delicious

JC03745 · 23/01/2025 13:10

I'll occasionally have a Thai chicken cup-a-soup type mug, but prefer home made soups over tinned. I make a delicious (IMO) pea and ham soup, Tom Yum, and Chicken and sweet corn whenever we have a roast. I've sometimes added cream of chicken soup to a pasta bake recipe.
I can't recall the last time I had tinned soup though? 🤔

TheNoonBell · 23/01/2025 13:12

Heinz Big Soup beef flavour. Just had one for lunch.

Wemaybebetterstrangers · 23/01/2025 13:14

Heinz tomato soup. Ground pepper. With fresh granary bread and thinly spread butter. Some cheddar if I feel particularly hungry. Might put the cheese in thin slices on the soup, or in bits on the bread then dip. Delicious!

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 23/01/2025 13:17

I've had flu and have had Heinz Cream of Chicken every day for three weeks, it's the only thing I can face.

ThisAintNoPartyThisAintNoDisco · 23/01/2025 13:22

Baxter’s carrot and butterbean is my favourite

TheArtfulScreamer1 · 23/01/2025 13:22

Asda used to do a lovely chunky chilli beef soup which was delicious but sadly it's discontinued and I'm yet to find a suitable replacement so I just stick with good old heinz tomato.

StMarie4me · 23/01/2025 13:22

Aldi Lentil soup. 62p and delicious!

Giggorata · 23/01/2025 13:23

Chicken and Mushroom (as separate soups)
Like boulevardofbrokendreamss, when I was ill recently that's all I could face.

Dogaredabomb · 23/01/2025 13:27

I love Heinz lentil soup, I wish I could recreate it.

I also like Heinz cream of mushroom.

Freysimo · 23/01/2025 13:28

And mine.

Jellycatspyjamas · 23/01/2025 13:36

Cream of chicken is my feeling poorly comfort food, always have a couple of tin of that and chicken noodle for the kids.

Fontainebleau007 · 23/01/2025 13:42

Heinz Mushroom soup is my go too
Also Crosse and Blackwell Broccoli and Stilton or Cauliflower and Wensleydale

CherryMarigold · 23/01/2025 13:06

Baxter's lentil and bacon is the only one I like.

I love Baxter's lentil and bacon too. It's pretty close to homemade imo.

LucindaShiteworthy · 23/01/2025 13:58

Aldi carrot and coriander

ChippySauce · 23/01/2025 14:01

I used to make an amazing lentil and bacon soup in the slow cooker when supermarkets used to have those hot deli counters which sold cooked gammon joints.

We are not regular tinned soup eaters but I'm glad there was an emergency tin today, it hit the spot and I'm thinking I will replace it with a couple of spares.

I prefer fresh soup to tinned but I do love tinned soup too.

My favourites are:

Heinz cream of chicken (I don’t eat the lumps/bits of chicken in it for some reason and pick around them)
Heinz vegetable
Heinz cream of tomato (reminds me of being poorly as a child, with lots of cheap white buttered bread for dipping!)
