His stupid voice and the stupid things he says makes me want to barf and his stupid orange face and bum hole mouth make me want to ram biros in my eyes.

He’s going to be all over the news for the next four years. 😱

Withdrawing from the WHO.
Leaving the Paris climate agreement and "Drill, baby, drill"

I find that pretty worrying, and no I do not live in the USA.

itsywitsy · 21/01/2025 15:46

He's better than he predecessor TBH - goodness knows who was running the country when grandpa was in charge.

Eightdayz · 21/01/2025 15:49

On the basis that what he's planning to implement isnt going particularly effect the UK. YABVU.

Grow up and change channel or scroll on. Easy!

scalt · 21/01/2025 15:50

The "off" button on your TV is very powerful. Use it well, before we have telescreens that we can't switch off, like in the book 1984.

Seriously. Switch your TV off. That's how I avoid seeing these idiots. News is very bad for many people's mental health, especially rolling 24-hour news. Here are some things I made a point of refusing to watch:

  • The coronation
  • The Queen's funeral
  • Platty Joobs
  • Last time Trump was elected
  • And the time before that
  • Every one of the Covid briefings
And I have no regrets about missing these at all. As for important things happening in the world: I take the view that I will find out about them, one way or another.

He wasn’t a convicted felon and he didn’t pardon 1500 other felons on his first day of office last time. Nor did he have the world’s richest man buttressing him. Trump 2.0 is a hugely different animal.

Yep, he has been firmly told that he can do whatever he wants now with no consequences whatsoever and he can't seek re election either so he doesn't have to worry about that either.
He just wanted to win, partly because he can't stand not to and partly because the alternative was jail.

We have. And the last time we were here, he tried armed insurrection to overthrow "democracy". I am waiting with not entirely bated breath for him to try to delete the 22nd Amendment (which restricts US presidents to two terms). There is precedent - the amendment is very recent (1951) and FDR had three terms...

Yes I'm concerned about that as well.

Chipsahoy · 21/01/2025 15:28

I don’t see him on anything I watch? So easy to avoid. I don’t watch or read news and don’t follow any social media about American politics.

I have a friend like this, she majorly struggles with reality now and even the smallest thing happening in the world makes her have a major meltdown because it's all new to her.

She didn't know how to avoid getting covid and when she heard about someone dying from it (random stranger) because a taxi driver had news on his radio, she got to her workplace and threw herself down on the floor crying for hours and then got signed off sick with mental health issues.

HRTQueen · 21/01/2025 15:55

If you are in the US then yes he shall be very difficult to escape the onslaught on 24hr reporting in his every move

here it’s easy just switch over to another channel

reporters love to report on him because he is like a car crash but we can choose to look away

SpryUmberZebra · 21/01/2025 15:57

Soonenough · 21/01/2025 15:17

I feel the same . But then I think he will probably start WW111 so it won't matter as we will all be gone.

Hahaha what a drama queen.

Not really, I live in the US and have up on mainstream media ages ago. The image you seem to have outside is the average American is running all over shouting MAGA but make people just live their normal lives. The US president actually has less impact on the average American with mayors and governors more impactful on their day to day lives.

Sending you a pm.

Haha did you have to mention about the bum hole mouth. That had never crossed my mind before but now that is all I will see!

Me too!!!

GildedRage · 21/01/2025 16:05

Only 198 weeks left.
Let the countdown begin!

HairyLairyQuiteContrary · 21/01/2025 16:06

I'm planning on ignoring and avoiding it as much as possible 🤷‍♀️

Switch the news off? I did this very early during Covid lockdown because I realised it wasn’t doing me any good at all so I stopped watching. You pick up what you need to from others anyway.

He got elected whether we like it or not. He’s going to do what he’s going to do whether we like it or not. We can’t control it so why stress about it.

Go back to using pencils to write with until in 2028 or 2029 you feel ready to requalify for your pen licence and can safely use biros again.

MagpiePi · 21/01/2025 16:09

I’m not going to stop watching or listening to the news, but it is annoying when there are clips of him.

I live in the UK.

My approach is going to be not reading the news or listening to political podcasts. I'm hoping to be in blissful ignorance.

I started this the day he won the presidential race. It's working well! I went from having the news on in the background all day to nothing. Also deleted my news app.

It's been a positive for my anxiety levels as a whole. As well as knowing nothing about that disgusting man, nor having to hear or see him.

I intend to keep doing what I'm doing for the next 4 years. I'm choosing not to allow him in to my life.

Give it a try! It might work for you too.

wastingtimeonhere · 21/01/2025 16:11

My immediate thought was
'why don't you...' the tv programme..😆 reading the other comments 😂

MagpiePi · 21/01/2025 16:11

FWIW, I have a similar reaction to Jim Carey.
There are just some people that irrationally make me cringe, but actors aren’t in charge of one of the largest and most influential countries in the world.

I really don’t have the opinion that every American is a MAGA enthusiast hence why the Democrats still received a high number of votes just not enough

I spend a lot of time there as my father lives there. Our news reporting and election campaigning is very different to here but yes I know you can switch off just not quite as easy as here as the impact will be more so on your lives having him as President than ours in the UK

I have been asked asked are my family devastated and scared of Trump winning, Some are over the moon most are disappointed and have concerns but no not devastated as just getting on with their lives - which they seem disappointed to hear

Who is to say Trump won’t go the same way in a year or two? And if you’ve ever seen one of his speeches written down, you’ll realise he already spouts some absolute drivel.

Needmilkandbread · 21/01/2025 16:19

I feel the same about Starmer.

I guess we just have to get on with it.

Avoiding the news for the next four years and donating to abortion services.
