Would you walk through a foggy wood at night for 1k?

A bizarre question I admit, but inspired by the foggy weather we had a few weeks ago. Driving at dusk and passing all the bare trees in the mist reminded me of countless Hammer horror films. A legacy of my teenage years waiting for Christopher Lee to pounce on the poor girl alone in the murky woods.

So how much would you have to be paid to walk alone in the woods on a foggy night? In the UK so no bears around. Personally, I don't think you could pay me enough 😂

I mean I usually have my dog with me but he is more likely to run away from anything scary. I’d camp for 1k.

rainbowlou · 19/01/2025 23:24

I’m so skint right now that it’s a yes from me 😀

TroysMammy · 19/01/2025 23:24

£1k is £1k. I'd probably scare any bogeyman in the woods anyway.

Hohofortherobbers · 19/01/2025 23:25

Do I know my way? How long will it take me?
But yes, I think I would

WongKarWhy · 19/01/2025 23:25

I mean I often do that anyway, albeit with a small terrier, and I’ve never seen anything particularly scary, so yes!

TheDowagerCountessofPembroke · 19/01/2025 23:26

What wood and how far? The wood at the back of my house, yes.

Yoheresthestory · 19/01/2025 23:26

Yeah why not! I’d do it for a dare maybe.

Coldanddamp · 19/01/2025 23:27

would i have people at either end & how long in the woods? veering towards no

MrsBobtonTrent · 19/01/2025 23:27

Definitely. A foggy wood - far easier to run and hide from any danger.

ForZanyAquaViewer · 19/01/2025 23:27

Not for £1K, no. I wouldn’t do very much for £1K. 🤣

For £50K, maybe. For £75K, yes. For £100K, I’d skip. 😁

Coldanddamp · 19/01/2025 23:27

tbh wouldn't walk through the woods during the day.

BertieBotts · 19/01/2025 23:32

I've done it just for fun, though it wasn't a very big wood. It supposedly had wild boar in but I never saw any, only deer.

Darkness, no absolutely not. But mist is lovely.

AppleKatie · 19/01/2025 23:32

Walk how far?

can I have a torch and headphones?

can you guarantee I’d be alone? (As in no scary men who want a chat?)

less than 5k, alone, headphones and torch. Yes and I’d enjoy it.

Talipesmum · 19/01/2025 23:37

Yes definitely. Fog would likely put off any dodgy people hanging around, and the woods would look beautiful. I don’t get spooked by “haunted” looking things.

PersonIrresponsible · 19/01/2025 23:38

I walked from dusk to dawn when preparing to walk across America.

Was a pleasant experience, despite the fog.

BrieHugger · 19/01/2025 23:40

I would in the woods near my house, but I’d be spooked about getting lost anywhere else.

bluesatin · 19/01/2025 23:40

Depends how obvious the paths are. I get lost in the wood right behind my house at night because it's got twisty, narrow, badly defined paths. No problem at all in daytime.
However I'd do it at night for 1K in my local wood because it is on a slope, so go for long enough up or down and you get out of it 😁
Beats me how the fleeing victims in horror films manage to run for more than a couple of yards in a wood at night, though, what with the potholes, roots, brambles etc.

makemeanoffericantrefuse · 19/01/2025 23:40

Not a chance.
My overactive imagination would cause me to be terrified.

DoggoQuestions · 19/01/2025 23:41

With Ddog yes. He looks big and scary and has a big bark (but is a massive wimp and if a few barks don't scare off the "threat" delivery driver he'll just cower behind you).

NeverDropYourMooncup · 19/01/2025 23:46

If you could guarantee no human males in the place, no problem.

BlondeMamaToBe · 19/01/2025 23:48

Not for £1k. It’s peanuts these days and I feel uneasy walking in secluded areas in clear daylight nevermind in the dark.

£10k and sprint through.

denhaag · 19/01/2025 23:52

I thought you meant 1 kilometre!
I'm a runner so think default to distance rather than money maybe!
Anyway, yes I would and do. Doesn't bother me at all. My main concern would be getting lost and annoyed.

Dynamo101 · 19/01/2025 23:55

I would probably do it for free just for fun, but would get suspicious as soon as you tried to pay me!

This

need a torch to see my feet though

I wouldn't be worried about supernatural things

real humans would worry me

I can't get anyone to join me on a night walk in the woods. I'd really love to do it.

Oldenpeculiar · 19/01/2025 23:58

I'd do it naked for £1k!
For one I think I'd probably be the scariest thing there and for two, yes I'm that skint 🤣
