What is the most miserable biscuit in existence?

DH and I are not eating sweet stuff for January and today he commented that he was so fed up with it he would even want to eat a really crap biscuit, so we were debating what that would be.

He reckoned the worst biscuit would be a Nice biscuit, but I think I would much rather eat one of those than a Garibaldi.

Is there a biscuit even more disappointing, that you would be less likely to accept an offer of than a Garibaldi biscuit?

I'venever come across 'biscuits brown' but they sound like they're the British Army's version of dwarf bread. The sort of food you look at, think 'nah, not that hungry', tighten your belt and march on. And of course also an excellent weapon.

The saying at school went that the biscuits brown were to eat at the start of an op to, er, bung things up iyswim, and then the fruit ones were to eat at the end to regularize things again. No idea if that's actually true though! 😂

RogueFemale · 18/01/2025 20:17

I agree, @noblegiraffe Garibaldi biscuits are the pits. To those of you dissing Rich Tea, the whole point of them is to dunk in tea and then they have a purpose. Better still, Abernethy biscuits.

Garabaldi aka "dead fly biscuits" are ace, rich tea are nice with butter on. Agree on nice biscuits though, they are grim

I like butter and cheese on a Digestive but I really can't imagine wanting butter on a Rich Tea. Weirdly, you are not the only person to suggest it.

Water biscuit my dad loves them. I tried it and it was like sandpaper

GinBlossom94 · 18/01/2025 20:37

@TwigletsAndRadishes give it a go, I thought it sounded weird too but it's really good

I love Rich Tea and Digestives - I could happily consign Lemon Puffs to the bin, and those Danish cookies that are wildly disappointing. Even the tin disappointed as a child, because if there was a tin hanging about at an elderly relative's, you'd think there might be a biscuit inside only to find it contained random buttons or some such similar.

i agree, those Danish biscuit tins always appeared around Christmas and they were always a disappointment.

Reminds me of that Simpsons episode where Homer puts a huge stack of toppings on a rice cracker... "...mmm and only 35 calories!"

Edited

Ha! Yes! I remember that!

I had been trying to post a gif of the clip in my comment earlier but I'm too technologically inept! 😂

Isn't a water biscuit really just a cream cracker?

Rich Tea = 100% The Most Miserable Biscuit.

soupfiend · 18/01/2025 20:56

OH likes a cornish wafer, horrible

I think they're the things that make up a lemon puff

aster10 · 18/01/2025 20:59

Husband said - rich tea biscuits (are the most miserable). Am contemplating divorcing him haha (I love them as I proclaimed a few pages back)

Feelingstrange2 · 18/01/2025 21:01

Cream crackers have something in them that makes them tastier than Cornish Wafers. Probably salt!

TamzinGrey · 18/01/2025 21:04

Those horrible pink wafer things with the criss cross pattern on are my idea of biscuit hell.

Now you come to mention it, yes you are right! I don't like CW at all, but I love lemon puffs.

I must be one of the few that love a custard cream (or three) always dunked in tea or coffee. Not a biscuit, but I remember really hating Tuc crackers as a kid. I don’t know if they still even do them. I agree that Rich Tea are so very dull.

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 18/01/2025 21:30

This thread inspired me to try my old favourites BNs.

Clearly the recipe has changed since the late 90s, early 00s because they're absolutely disgusting. Ruined the nostalgia I felt.

Tuc crackers still exist as do the cheese filling one's.

The LU Petit Chocolat ones are my version of crack. And when you dunk them in tea the chocolate melts and becomes even more amazing.

I haven't dared try the choc version. They'll probably be the food that takes me out!

EveryOtherNameTaken · 18/01/2025 21:57

Chocolate bourbons. Nasty.

KitKat1985 · 18/01/2025 21:59

Definitely rich tea.

AInightingale · 18/01/2025 22:10

So many awful biscuits have stood the test of time. And yet Gypsy Creams, which were sublime, disappeared decades ago. It's so weird and unjust.

Clariceamelia · 18/01/2025 22:37

For me, its a Lincoln biscuit.

I recall they were offered on a Speed Awareness training day (compulsory) and when they brought them out, I remember thinking, 'Not even a Rich Tea' which may have been slightly better, but no, and it was literally one Lincoln - with Birds Mellow (or similar powder yuk) coffee. and less than 10 minutes to eat/sip and get back in the room.

No, they're thinner and crisper.
