What is the most miserable biscuit in existence?

DH and I are not eating sweet stuff for January and today he commented that he was so fed up with it he would even want to eat a really crap biscuit, so we were debating what that would be.

He reckoned the worst biscuit would be a Nice biscuit, but I think I would much rather eat one of those than a Garibaldi.

Is there a biscuit even more disappointing, that you would be less likely to accept an offer of than a Garibaldi biscuit?

I was surprised on visiting Dorset that knob throwing was a specialist local passtime. I was hoping that if I stuck around they might be able to teach me a thing or two😂

Dorset apple cake is scrumptious, though!

When I lived in Dorset in days of old, 'knob throwing' had an entirely different meaning round the back of the Red Lion in Gillingham and the Stapleton Arms in Buckhorn Weston. We used to get prizes for it.

Shortbread can get in the bin
And fig rolls Envy

Pink wafers.
They're not really biscuits imo, nasty texture and sickly bland filling.

Foggyflumpet · 18/01/2025 18:02

I think it might actually be Maryland cookies. Mainly because they promise much but actually taste of nothing.

At least you know there's no joy in a British biscuit, so you're not disappointed.

I'd put Oreos ahead on those criteria of disappointment. They look as though they should be intensely chocolatey but aren't at all.Confused

When I worked in an office where we took it in turns to provide the biscuits I always bought fig rolls.

I hate their soggy texture and too sweet filling and it meant I could stick to my diet the week it was my turn!

But you'd punish everyone else in the process?😂

I like fig rolls.

Arrowroot biscuits or Abernethy both are criminal.

@ERthree I have never heard of an abernethy biscuit! They look very like a digestive; are they not?

Ellmau · 18/01/2025 18:26

Official jammy dodgers aren't great, but Fox's or M&S versions are nice.

rc22 · 18/01/2025 18:31

CherryRipe1 · 18/01/2025 18:31

I can see the killer words "gluten free" at the top of that box. Guaranteed disappointment.

Makes me really sad that Granddaughter is Coeliac and this is her life now…all GF food is nothing like non GF however you dress it up .

No, you get to eat all the way around, then eat round the cow. Like in squid game. Think malted milk were another food group when I was a kid.

Like a digestive in size, a little thicker than a Rich Tea and a lot more tasty - slightly shortbreadish. Malted milkish. But a crisper texture.

Best I can do, sorry. Buy a packet, you may not regret it !!!

Note - I have not ever baked them but I even found a recipe that I'm going to have to try now.

Oatcakes are really only decent if you have a big bowl of stovies to eat them with. Or my own Arbroath Smokie pâté (DH requests it every Christmas). I would find them weird being eaten instead of crackers with cheese, they definitely need something saucy. Grin

SchrodingersTwat2 · 18/01/2025 18:39

Rich tea or digestive.

I have no idea why people would buy either of them when interesting and nice biscuits are available.

Seekingsnow · 18/01/2025 18:40

I am struggling to pick my worst out of bourbons, pink wafers, Viennese whirls or those horrible Danish biscuits.

I like Rich Tea.

I have never had a lemon puff nor seen them for sale. Do they still exist?
