What is the most miserable biscuit in existence?

DH and I are not eating sweet stuff for January and today he commented that he was so fed up with it he would even want to eat a really crap biscuit, so we were debating what that would be.

He reckoned the worst biscuit would be a Nice biscuit, but I think I would much rather eat one of those than a Garibaldi.

Is there a biscuit even more disappointing, that you would be less likely to accept an offer of than a Garibaldi biscuit?

I grew up thinking that Maryland cookies were quite fancy, more exotic than a custard cream because of the name. They're actually tiny, aren't they? Nothing to them.

Me too! They were American and therefore exotic and exciting! I remember them first coming over here. ( Don’t anyone destroy my childhood memories by telling me they were never American).

Beeinalily · 18/01/2025 14:57

Cola flavoured Jaffa Cakes. What on earth were they thinking?

carkerpartridge · 18/01/2025 14:59

Party rings and Iced gems were always a complete disappointment despite looking pretty. They are too hard and sweet but tasteless.
I also hate all the biscuits with a visible sugar coating - Nice, Danish, Garibaldi etc

I echo all the Rich Tea haters. Such a sad excuse for a biscuit.

JaneBoleynViscountessRochford · 18/01/2025 15:00

i am shocked at the custard cream and rich tea hate, two of my favourites!

Worst for me is the fruit shortcake things that look like someone has rolled the dough through a load of dead flies.

LadyTangerine · 18/01/2025 15:00

Iced gems. Are they a biscuit or a sweet though? Far too small and you are obliged to eat the whole packet to satisfy a biscuit crave.

I reckon I'm going to be in the minority here, but a hobnob.

Edited

I'm with you with the hobnobs. Like eating straw.

dottydodah · 18/01/2025 15:02

Rich tea are awful .Pink wafers remind me of dear DM, she would buy a whole packet for us to have with a coffee, and another pack to take home with me!

TabithaWilliams · 18/01/2025 15:02

Lincoln with the bumps - completely pointless and tasteless

LookItsMeAgain · 18/01/2025 15:02

For everyone saying Rich Tea - I give you Lincoln biscuits!

We all love rich tea, nice and malted milk. This thread has inspired me to go and buy some.

Custard creams - bleurgh. 🤢

Natsku · 18/01/2025 15:09

I always liked rich tea biscuits even if they were a bit boring. As a (disgusting) child I liked to bite off half, chew it up, and spit it back out on the other half and then eat it like that. I have no idea why but it somehow made them more exciting.

Danish butter cookies are, in my memory (not able to eat any normal biscuits now due to gluten so its been 20 years since I've had one), pretty rubbish.

AInightingale · 18/01/2025 15:10

Marie biscuits are far, far worse than Rich Tea. They're like a Diet Rich Tea if anything.

Travelodge · 18/01/2025 15:11

I love rich tea and digestive (especially chocolate digestives) and malted milk and Hobnobs and garibaldi and Lincoln and fig rolls. Can take or leave custard creams.

But I CANNOT STAND Jaffa cakes. I honestly wouldn't eat one even if I was starving.

RJ2023 · 18/01/2025 15:11

I could never eat Rich Tea these days - if I was unwell with flu / stomach bug etc. in the early 1980s and off school my lovely Mum would get those for me to eat something! They were horrific to eat even then!

hexsnidgett · 18/01/2025 15:12

Bourbons, pink wafers and dress.
Plus anything with coconut in, tastes nasty and horrible texture.

HRTQueen · 18/01/2025 15:12

Chocolate bourbons hardly chocolatey at all

Garibaldi and lemon puffs both always taste stale even when packet is just opened

I really like rich tea, malted milk and Nice biscuits

catzrulz · 18/01/2025 15:12

Fig rolls or any of the Belvita range of soft breakfast biscuits. They're all awful and should be banned.

HeffalumpsAndWoozlesAreHoneyRobbingTwats · 18/01/2025 15:14

I wish they would bring back the humble Trio.

Feelingstrange2 · 18/01/2025 15:15

Love Nice (sugar on top), Garabaldi (squat fly biscuits) and a Rich Tea (if dunked in tea!!!).

I don't like Custard Creams or Digestives but I think I can find my way to understanding why some people do like them.

Definitely one of the worst is Pink Wafers (they are just crunchy air).

Words · 18/01/2025 15:15

I don't like most of these-esp the ones that come in a tin of different types; none of them , to quote a cliché, spark joy. Not worth the calories.

But top of hate list would be pink wafer ( dislike the taste) and rich tea (pointless.) I'd rather have oatcakes or crackers and cheese.

I do especially like
Hob nobs
Fig rolls
Jaffa cakes
Chocolate covered ginger biscuits
Shortbread
Viennese swirls
Those chunky chocolate covered biscuits from. M and S

I love a Belvita soft biscuit 😍. You kind of feel they must be healthy as it says breakfast biscuits but they probably have a thousand calories each.

ImWearingPantaloons · 18/01/2025 15:17

This is a toughy - it's a contest between:

Lincoln (can you still get them?)
Shortcake (not to be confused with shortbread)
Rich tea
Bourbon creams
Custard creams

Basically anything you can get in one of those 'teatime' assortments
