Men wearing shorts.

Even when it was snowing I saw quite a few men wearing shorts. I often wonder why on a freezing day they reckon that they should wear shorts.

This subject was discussed on here quite recently. I forget if there was any general consensus but I'd say these people are either attention seeking or not very bright. The other possibility is that they are obese to the point they can't find long trousers that fit comfortably. There's one such gentleman who goes to my local pub.

Chiseltip · 18/01/2025 11:19

How is it any different to a woman wearing a skirt?

You should see what women wear in the pubs here, practically naked while standing outside having a smoke.

Because they want to? Because it's comfortable? Because they have a physical job or are going to the gym?
I wear shorts in the winter too sometimes when exercising or doing housework, should I not? I didn't realise the clothing police were out in force 😂

dementedpixie · 18/01/2025 11:21

My ds wore shorts all through primary school and wore shorts outside of high school as he needed to wear shorts in school. He still prefers shorts over trousers and is 18 now. I think its more a sensory thing than being attention seeking or not being bright!

What is wrong with shorts anyway and what difference does it make to your life when men wear shorts instead of trousers?

DUsername · 18/01/2025 11:21

My husband always wears shorts. He isn't stupid, attention seeking or so fat he can't find trousers to fit him (that makes no logical sense anyway as both clothing items have waist bands). He simply says his legs don't get cold.

Or they just wear what they want because it's their personal choice 😳

Plenty of women wear short dresses and skirts in cold weather. I wouldn't assume they were attention seeking or lacking in intelligence.

What a bizarre comment

I have been wearing shorts outside in the garden this morning. It is cold, but once I get going I soon warm up. Working in shorts is inherently easier than long trousers, especially outside where is is generally wetter in the UK. I don't want long trousers bagged down by water from the atmosphere or from the vegetation. They sag and they drag and they get muddy. Shorts, some wool socks folded down to the top of my boots ensures I stay clean and dry. If I then pop up to the local shop or country store to buy something in my shorts, I think people know why I am dressed like that.

Seapow · 18/01/2025 11:28

not a man but I wear shorts pretty much year round and was wearing them in the snow we recently had. It’s more comfortable, my legs don’t get that cold

notprincehamlet · 18/01/2025 11:35

People drive absolutely everywhere - weather-appropriate clothing isn't needed for the journey between heated car/building

Or they just like shorts?

Am I the only one who likes a sturdy set of legs in shorts?

AyrnotAir · 18/01/2025 11:44

My 12 year old wears shorts every single day, to school and even in - 6 last year. He hates trousers for some reason. One of my brothers is similar still at 44.

Boredlass · 18/01/2025 11:45

Maybe they had just finished work in a physical job and were going home. Loads of men wear shorts where I work even in the snow. It’s more comfortable for them

What a very, very strange theory 😂 attention seeking by wearing shorts. Give your brain a break.

Strange because your view seems to be seeking attention and not very bright... do you find trouble finding clothes to fit you too?

whaddayawannado · 18/01/2025 11:47

I know somebody who wears shorts pretty much all year round. He has a physical job though, and he seems impervious to cold.

oOiluvfriendsOo · 18/01/2025 11:47

I (female) like to wear shorts. They are comfortable and I like them. No other reason needed.

Thecomfortador · 18/01/2025 11:49

Genuinely don't understand why this annoys people. Not a shorts wearer myself, but people can wear what they want. If they're warm enough and comfortable then why is it a problem?

gamerchick · 18/01/2025 11:49

I'm mostly in shorts. I might put legs on when it goes under zero.

I'm neither obese, thick or attention seeking Hmm

Blue278 · 18/01/2025 11:50

DS has a mate who is famous for only wearing shorts everywhere. He’s a rugby player with huge thighs and just says they’re more comfortable. I can see that.

Lolypoly14 · 18/01/2025 11:53

My daughter’s boyfriend wears shorts all year round, even when it’s snowing/freezing. I did ask him once if he was freezing, but no. His legs don’t really feel the cold, although I have seen him wear thermals under the shorts when it’s really freezing.

He works outdoors in all weathers and legs are easier to dry off than shorts. He finds them easier to move in - lots of kneeling on the ground and shorts are just easier. He’s just so used to wearing them for work, that he just wears them all the time.

I think I’ve seen him in trousers/jeans about 4 times in the 4 years they’ve been together.
