Men wearing shorts.

Even when it was snowing I saw quite a few men wearing shorts. I often wonder why on a freezing day they reckon that they should wear shorts.

Whether male or female no one above the age of 40 should be seen wearing shorts in public.

Do legs go off overnight on your 40th birthday?

Jesus the assumptions about men made because they're wearing shorts, seriously?! My partner is neither stupid nor an attention seeker, but he is athletic and extremely used to competing outdoors in shorts in all sorts of weather conditions, it's what he's most comfortable in! If we were in the North Pole I wouldn't imagine he would be wearing shorts, but he certainly does take the dog for a walk in winter in his shorts sometimes. I'm on the other end of the scale and feel the cold terribly so I'm always wrapped up to the max, often in earmuffs, gloves and a scarf in October! Should I have ridiculous assumptions made about me as well?

Had the same discussion with Dh the other day. We concluded its because they want to. I find it bizarre I admit as I'm a cold person. I also can't understand women who wear sleeveless tops unless it's about 25 degrees outside, I don't presume they are stupid, I just think that they like wearing sleeveless tops and like feeling cooler. Each to their own

This subject was discussed on here quite recently. I forget if there was any general consensus but I'd say these people are either attention seeking or not very bright. The other possibility is that they are obese to the point they can't find long trousers that fit comfortably. There's one such gentleman who goes to my local pub.

🤣🤣🤣. My husband is neither attention seeking, thick or obese yet he wears shorts most days as that is what he prefers. Strange assumption.

I used to say that my DS would wear shorts and a T shirt on a trip to the Arctic! When he went off to uni I insisted he took a coat by taking him shopping for something he really wanted and then telling him ’right, now we’ve bought that, I’m buying you a coat - choose ANY coat you want as long as it’s one you will wear and I will buy it for you.’ He did actually wear it apparently but on the whole he just didn’t feel the cold and would have felt too hot in trousers most of the time.
This is in sharp contrast to DD who is probably the chilliest mortal on the planet - you will find her wrapped up in a blanket on the sofa even in Summer. Her now DH is also a shorts-wearing, no-coat needed kind of guy and they massively struggled to find a good temperature for both of them in their first home together.

It seems odd to decide this is indicative of a man’s character or intellect though….we’ve fought against judging women on what they wear for so long, maybe we’ve forgotten that it’s as nonsensical when we do it for men…?

They're probably heading over to the Polar Bear Plunge later on.

DoubleDoubleDown · 18/01/2025 14:21

Maybe they're Canadian. -23 ?shorts, hoodie & touqe. You're good to go

Ginmonkeyagain · 18/01/2025 14:30

Mr Monkey wears shorts a lot. He runs every day and he also works for a running shoe company and they have to wear the kit they sell - the choice of bottoms is leggings, shorts or tracksuit trousers and he generally prefers shorts (although it was cold enough for him to be wearing running leggings under his work shorts today!).

As a qualified accountant who runs at least three marathons a year, he is neither thick or obese.

Loads of boys (and men) wear shorts, all year round. Postmen, labourers, people often prefer shorts to trousers. Or if they are warm rather than cold people.

both my boys do. Both are very bright, thin, sporty. It's not uncommon. I don't think it's necessarily due to be not very bright, or obese.

I wear shorts myself all year round. I have very loose hips and I find trousers restrict my movement too much.

Plus, I think they suit me. I've got a cracking set of legs. And guess what @Riapia - I'm 41 😁

My legs do not feel the cold like the rest of my body.
I'm not too fat wear long trousers, I'm not attention seeking, and I'm not stupid.
But I wear shorts year round.
Or is that different because I'm a woman?
