Overnight oats...

It is just a case of adding oats, milk and chia seeds and sticking in fridge?

Are there nice recipes? Talk to me

@mum2jakie they don't really taste like anything tbh, but they do add a distinctive texture (which you may not like!) and are very healthy. Keep you full for ages too.

Thanks. Hmm, so what's the texture? Chewy? Soft? I don't like most nuts so not sure if I'd enjoy them. Are they similar to any other types of seed?

SeenYourArse · 17/01/2025 21:42

I do granola, Greek or natural yoghurt and a few sultanas in a resealable tub overnight in the fridge. Delicious

bloodredfeaturewall · 17/01/2025 21:44

essentially yes
I like oats (mix of rough cut and fine)
chia seeds
crushed linseed
raisins or other dried fruit

I prefer it with water, not milk.
add ground cinnamon, cardamon, ginger, cocoa to taste

texture is a firm gloopy. the kind you need to chew unless you take tiny spoon fulls.

bakewellbride · 17/01/2025 21:46

@mum2jakie soft, it's kind of hard to describe. Aldi sell chia seeds very cheaply so worth a try then you haven't spent too much if not your cup of tea.

I like chia pudding which is chia seeds with milk / yoghurt left overnight, pretty much my overnight oats but without the oats once I add berries and other stuff to it! Warning it does look gross.

66babe · 17/01/2025 21:47

I do mine with fat free Greek style yoghurt
Teaspoon of chia seeds
Teaspoon of flaxseed
Frozen blueberries

Shove in fridge .. chop banana in the morning and eat the lot

Love it

Tootruetoberreal · 17/01/2025 21:47

Do you heat the over night porridge up in the microwave the next day? If so, does the texture not go a bit thick/congealed?

GRCP · 17/01/2025 21:48

I like oats, milk, lemon juice, honey and rasberries and also oats, milk, peanut butter and banana

I've never tried chia seeds. What do they actually taste like?

They taste like invisible fresh air 🤣

But very good for you

OTannenbaumOTannenbaum · 17/01/2025 21:52

I do almond milk, oats, chia seeds, chocolate chips, peanut butter, walnuts, blueberries and cocoa powder. Love it.

Gettingbysomehow · 17/01/2025 21:54

I love overnight oats. So easy. I like yoghurt instead of milk in mine.

TheMAFSfan · 17/01/2025 21:55

This is my ultimate, got my colleague hooked on it so I have to make two every evening now 😅...

45g porridge oats
9g chia seeds
15g honey
35g 100% peanut butter
150ml milk

Glass jar, overnight, heat up mid morning for 40 seconds... incredible 🤗

Enjoy!!

Everyreason · 17/01/2025 21:55

I buy different flavours from oat pantry. I love the fruit crumble and lemon drizzle. When I feel less lazy I plan on using the flavour ideas to create my own from scratch…..

Oats and milk overnight, then in the morning I warm it up and add in some raspberries and a big dollop of Nutella- can’t beat it!

Skyrmion · 17/01/2025 21:59

I make my own kefir, so my overnight oats consist of about 200ml of kefir, 15g (rye) oats and 1 tbsp of chia seeds. Chia makes it more gloopy, which I like.

I use one of those Kilmer breakfast dishes, they’re handy since come with a measuring scale for the 200ml - in the morning I chop and mix in any fruit I have handy. Pear, peach, apple…also grapes are nice.

Only recently I got into frozen fruit too, I love frozen mango, cherries and blueberries from Aldi/Lidl mixed in.

Anyone tried flaxseed instead of chia?

smooththecat · 17/01/2025 22:00

Are overnight oats cold? I don’t get it. What’s wrong with porridge?

Edit, if they’re not cold, what’s the difference?

Pollyanna123456 · 17/01/2025 22:03

Cocao powder and grated courgette or cinnamon and grated carrot. Also dollop of Greek yogurt

smooththecat · 17/01/2025 22:04

I’ve never liked the contents of the hoover bag in my porridge, so perhaps not meant for me?

Courgette porridge?

doggydesperado · 17/01/2025 22:05

If I use protein whey, is that ok? Do I need to add more/less milk to it

Mine are cold. I just don’t like hot milk stuff for breakfast, never got into porridge, but love the overnight oats, straight from the fridge.

Courgette porridge?

Nope do not cook that courgette and make it soggy! Sounds a bit odd but it actually strangely works. & You feel like you've been very healthy all before 8 am.

You eat it cold. The yoghurt “cooks” the oats and they soften up.

I love porridge but don’t have the time to cook it in the morning. I can just pull the tub of overnight oats out the fridge. OO are my workday breakfast.
