"I prefer dogs to people"

purplecorkheart · 17/01/2025 13:38

No on here but I remember posting asking for recommendation for a book about a certain hobby that there were no classes available near me. It is one that you can easily teach yourself and a number of people on the board had.

One kept replying do class.

Ohlawdnotagain · 17/01/2025 13:38

What about ones like this:

OP: I am desperately trying to save my 15 year marriage with 2 DCs. DH is generally a kind and loving husband and father but is lazy, uncommunicative and has been diagnosed in the last year with ASD. Please help me with ways I can cope.

Unhelpful and irrelevant replies:
Why did you have DCs with him then?
My DC has ASD, YABU.
You don't know what it's like for someone with ASD. Check your privilege.

OP- Person is definitely NOT ND.
MN- they must be ND.

OP- my 55 year old MIL did this annoying thing.
MN- sounds like dementia.

These ones always make me wonder if these people have never in their lives met an awful annoying person. Who just is horrible, to always put it down to being NT or dementia if older.

Where the poster has not bothered to read the OPs updates that contain key information so they keep repeating useless advice or questions!!

oh he gods YES, it’s always the most generic, obvious advice too and they think they’re the first in 5 pages to have come up with it.

should I stop hitting myself in the face with a hammer?

yes

OK. I’ve stopped doing it

hitting yourself in the face with a hammer really hurts OP (for 20 pages and two weeks later)

'I'm going to a London venue to celebrate my glamorous friend's big birthday, I feel like splashing out on something new and exciting to wear, any ideas?'

'I just wear joggers and a hoodie in London, everyone does. Nobody will be looking at you anyway so wear what you like'.

Namechange666 · 17/01/2025 13:41

Any comment that suggests shitty behaviour must automatically make that person ND. It boils my piss quite frankly.

Erm no that's because the person is an arsehole. And the misinformation that gets spread like opinions are facts pisses me off too. Then everyone nods and believes it.

My 2 yr old daughter has a pain in her leg.

perhaps he’s broken his arm, how old is he?

🤣🤣🤣

Doctorwhew · 17/01/2025 13:46

Also I sometimes wonder why people don’t just use Google if they’re responding to an OP, surely it’s quicker and easier than waiting for an answer. If you’re on MN you’re already on a device connected to the internet. For example an op mentioned ‘C-suite’, I’ve never worked in a big corporate company so googled it. Cue so many “what is a c suite” and people getting annoyed they’re not getting a reply.

There are a few instances where OP has posted on AIBU and everyone has concluded yes.
OP comes back and eats humble pie and concedes they were or says what they will do/have changed as a result

....and then there continues a 5 page pile on with posters not reading updates and OP periodically repeating themselves!

I hate that.

OP: Ok, thanks everyone I can see now that I was wrong and will change my ways.

Replies: Well I'm glad you saw the light OP but if you hadn't been such a terrible person in the first place it would never have been an issue. I could never be friends with someone like you and I pray to god that my DC will never marry anyone like you and it makes me feel physically ill that I even have to breath the same oxygen as you. What with you still being such a terrible person and all that.

Even when pulled up on it they usually defensively say "well it's all well and good this time but what about next time.

Sdpbody · 17/01/2025 13:47

OP: My DH is being an arse

Other people: Are they ND?

ND is not an excuse for people to be arses!!

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 17/01/2025 13:50

‘There, fixed that for you’

No, if I wanted to say the opposite to what I posted, I would have done so. I didn’t , because I am not a dickhead (unlike you).

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 17/01/2025 13:51

Please help with a holiday for May half term.

Suggestions for march and October.

wandawaves · 17/01/2025 13:52

My husband does a hobby, I can't say what it is because it's outing.

Yep sure, he's the only cyclist in the country is he...

HolidayAtNight · 17/01/2025 13:53

On Style and Beauty: "Sorry, but it's hideous." Who made you the arbiter?! So arrogant!

TheTruthHurtsDontIt · 17/01/2025 13:56

They're like toddlers marching over to adults having a conversation about taxes and announcing loudly "I like trains". So eager to contribute to the discussion they don't care if their contribution is relevant or not.

Their parents obviously never taught them that if they have nothing of value to add to a conversation it's best to just shut up.

Cattenberg · 17/01/2025 13:56

OP: Just found out that DH has been messaging sex workers. I’m in shock. I thought we were really happy and we’ve just bought a new house together.

Why haven’t you left him yet, OP?

wandawaves · 17/01/2025 13:57

OP: which luxury handbag/car/holiday would people recommend out of xyz?

Posters: READ THE ROOM!!!
COST OF LIVING!!
HOW DARE YOU, I AM ON MINIMUM WAGE!!
Ha ha ha, I can't imagine wasting so much money on one thing, you are ridiculous OP.
Why don't you buy xyz budget item and donate the rest to charity??

ThatsWhatImTalkinAbout · 17/01/2025 13:57

Every problem person mentioned on MN is either a narcissist or is Neurodivergent without any qualifications to back it up.

CienAnosDeSoledad · 17/01/2025 13:58

My biggest are when people don't read the OP and then ask for some info from the OP in an angry, annoyed way.

And when the quote the whole massive OP with a one word reply underneath. No, scrap that. When they quote the OP in general. Just why?

itstoocoldtoday · 17/01/2025 13:59

I was on a thread about early waking toddlers. One poster kept shouting what awful people we were and that she loved every morning with hers. Someone replied that her toddler can’t get walk but they live in a three storey house which she has to navigate in the dark and cold.

‘Can you move?’

denhaag · 17/01/2025 13:59

I need a dress for a wedding. Budget is less than £100 and needs to be knee length and have sleeves (long or short). Prefer blues and greens.

I know it's not quite what you're looking for, but I love this:

Op: John Doe has died, that’s so sad.
Comment: I’ve never heard of John Doe

I'd expand this to include any types of comments where people are trying to sound terribly refined but actually make themselves out to be po-faced snobs. Haven't they read books or seen films? No-one is rooting for the po-faced snobs! Being fixated on being classy, what one ought to do (when it's completely inconsequential), pointing out that they haven't heard of anything so vulgar as a celebrity and of course wouldn't even know how to spell McDonald's - none of these things come across well.

Devilsmommy · 17/01/2025 14:00

Anyone who answers being a smug sanctimonious twat ending their comment with HTH. Really wish there was an emoji to call someone a twat that I could reply to them with😡

Fizbosshoes · 17/01/2025 14:00

I notice there's a lot of folks ready to be negative

Eg on AIBU I'm sure some people decide the person is unreasonable before they've even read the OP

On S &B there's always a queue of people ready to tell the person their suggested outfit (eg I've got this dress it's my favourite colour and fits well but what shoes/jewellery should I get? That dress is dreadful , looks very cheap fabric, the colour is not suitable, will only look good if under 25 etc etc)

And if anyone says guess my age and posts a pic where they might be anything from 25-45, several posters will be saying 65, or 58, or their nan is 70 and looks better! 🙄
