What do you eat for breakfast that’s not toast or cereal?

I have always eaten toast but I am finding it a bit stodgy some days especially if I have a sandwich for lunch and it’s just too much bread!

I don’t have cereal as I don’t like milk. I don’t like eggs and I don’t like berries and yogurt type things.

I am not as fussy as I sound! I am wondering what other people have and maybe it will give me some ideas.

Protein shake

JaneandtheLaundry · 17/01/2025 10:19

Pain au chocolat, brioche, chocolate pancakes, waffles, croissants. I love a ready-made pastry for breakfast!

Thebogopogopanpacificgrandprix · 17/01/2025 10:20

I raid the fridge for protein based food and have a banana or apple as well.

Stir fried veg and lentils with tofu.

ExitPursuedByABare · 17/01/2025 10:21

Greek yoghurt, berries, passion fruit, a spoonful of granola and a drizzle of honey.

notacooldad · 17/01/2025 10:22

Oats, chai seeds, a drop of vanilla essence, a couple of grains of salt, soaked overnight add raspberries, strawberries or blueberries and a little date syrup or agave.

fruitbrewhaha · 17/01/2025 10:22

Eggs, avocado, tofu fried with smoked paprika, (veggie here)kimchi, pickled veg. Maybe a bit of cheese. Or leftovers, I had rice and Dahl with a fried egg yesterday

Nfhh · 17/01/2025 10:22

Normally rice or noodle based, rice and curry, rice, veg and egg type thing

LoafofSellotape · 17/01/2025 10:23

I have cereal but with soya milk /scrambled eggs and smoked salmon/ avocado and mushrooms and tomatoes/ left over dinner from the night before!

25GBUK · 17/01/2025 10:24

I will have a banana some days.

Yes I was thinking of a rice type thing.

Quorn sausages, beans, tomato & mushrooms
Bagels - either cinnamon & raisin ones or plain ones with peanut butter and sliced banana
Crumpets
Have you tried the non-dairy milks?

Doggymummar · 17/01/2025 10:25

Greggs breakfast pasty is the best breakfast. I discovered them when I was on jury service and made the most of my meal allowance. It was a glorious two weeks. Back in the real world I love a crumpet

CurlewKate · 17/01/2025 10:26

I love last night's leftovers, usually cold, for breakfast. I had parmesan and pea salad with balsamic dressing this morning......

(Don't knock it until you've tried it!)

chelseahealyslips · 17/01/2025 10:26

Breakfast foods are really a thing we've been taught to eat rather than intuitively eating whatever we need.
Food is food. You could eat spag bol for breakfast and that would be fine as it is a fuel.

Try protein and fruit or veg.

Talipesmum · 17/01/2025 10:27

My dad doesn’t like milk “on its own” so has oats for breakfast, with raisins, so the milk is all soaked up. Or something like porridge.

Flutterbees · 17/01/2025 10:27

Chia seeds mixed with a tub of pear chunks in pear juice, topped with Greek yoghurt and berries.

Cheerfulcharlie · 17/01/2025 10:27

Granola (specifically Rollagranola) which is gluten free. Sometimes with greek yogurt or sometimes without.

KittenPause · 17/01/2025 10:27

Breakfast is just a way to kickstart my body in the mornings

I used to eat porridge

But now I eat Greek Yogurt because it's filling and nice and creamy. You can add nuts, seeds, or berries.

A perfect breakfast for me would be lots of fresh fruit like melon and berries, bacon, eggs, and some cheese.

persisted · 17/01/2025 10:29

overnight oats (make mine with water) and fruit, fruit crumble, granola bar - I use a Nigella recipe I like.

25GBUK · 17/01/2025 10:29

I was thinking I could just have anything I fancy, not just a ‘breakfast’ type food. I wouldn’t want anything spicy or heavy though.

Some lovely ideas 😊

Greek yogurt

Fiery30 · 17/01/2025 10:30

Indian breakfasts are great for variety. They are not bread based and are nutritious. Things like stuffed paratha made from wheat flour, semolina with veggies(upma). You can find the recipes on Youtube.

DUsername · 17/01/2025 10:31

I make up some porridge with water then add a big dollop of greek yoghurt to make it creamy and add protein. I also add chia seeds and fruit.

In the interest of full disclosure though, I'm not always that healthy. I had a cronut from Lidl yesterday

fanaticalfairy · 17/01/2025 10:33

Eggs! Omelette on it own, in a wrap with Spinach and cheese etc, dippy egg - fried egg sandwich. Eggy bread. Shakshuka at the weekends. Poached egs on toast

Yoghurt, fruit and honey

Egg fried rice

Peanut butter porridge with raspberries.

Quesadillas/toasties

Savoury flapjacks (more for 'on the go') breakfasts

fruitbrewhaha · 17/01/2025 10:34

I do a fry up of red onion mushroom and tomatoes too, going to have that now
