What do you eat for breakfast that’s not toast or cereal?

I have always eaten toast but I am finding it a bit stodgy some days especially if I have a sandwich for lunch and it’s just too much bread!

I don’t have cereal as I don’t like milk. I don’t like eggs and I don’t like berries and yogurt type things.

I am not as fussy as I sound! I am wondering what other people have and maybe it will give me some ideas.

Ice Cream for breakfast! You would be my kids hero....

We've had ice cream, jelly, cake ...all sorts for breakfast. Makes no odds if they have cake at 8 with breakfast,or 3 for afternoon snack.

CraftyNavySeal · 17/01/2025 11:18

We do a big pan of baked oats on Sunday, in the morning take out a slice and warm it in the microwave. Add Greek yogurt (optional) and maple syrup on top.

Fab in winter it’s like having a warm pudding everyday!

TheFormidableMrsC · 17/01/2025 11:19

Scrambled eggs and a big spoon of crushed avocado (with chilli).

What about mushrooms and tomatoes, baked or fried with a bit of cheese on top. I'd either have with toast or eggs, but as you don't like those maybe on a rosti?

bluesatin · 17/01/2025 11:21

MIL used to have juice on her cereal too.
I like kippers or smoked haddock for breakfast but only have them on holiday because they make such a strong smell in the kitchen.
When on holiday in Thailand DH had Chinese porridge (congee) for breakfast which is water rather than milk based. He enjoyed it very much until he got to the last few mouthfuls... there were some very firey chillies lurking at the bottom of the bowl. 👹

I eat ful medames most days. It’s an Egyptian breakfast dish made of fava beans. I make a batch at the weekend that lasts all week.

noobiedoobie · 17/01/2025 11:25

Overnight oats but I don't do them overnight.

Oats 25g-ish
Almond milk 55g
Scoop protein powder 10g
Almonds x8
Chia seeds 5g
Brazil nut 0.5
Grated ginger
Grated apple
Fat free Greek yoghurt 60g
Blueberries 20g

Been having that for years. I just measure by eye now.

I then have a second breakfast

Sourdough
Scrambled egg
Cottage cheese
Pumpkin seeds
Mushrooms
Tomatoes
Spinach
Olive Oil
Balsamic vinegar

Leftovers

Noodles, spinach and broth with an egg dropped in

Rice and dal, with roti and the sweet carrot dish which I can't spell or prawn curry and rice ... basically I love Indian breakfast

Boredlass · 17/01/2025 11:37

Eggs. By far the best thing to have

caringcarer · 17/01/2025 11:44

Either 1/2 fat sausages in a wholemeal roll.

Bacon in a wholemeal roll.

Occasionally scrambled eggs on toast if DH cooking.

2 Hash browns, an egg, a 1/2 fat sausage, bacon and spoon of baked beans at weekends.

custardlover · 17/01/2025 11:44

Yoghurt or overnight oats or porridge

Oldermum84 · 17/01/2025 12:01

Nutty muesli mixed with greek yoghurt.

But paratha is bread?

I’m no use o/p, it’s toast here. I have tried many many alternatives, and nothing hits the spot like toast.

if it were me the better option would be to ditch the sandwich at lunch - imo there’s more options and later on in the day I can tolerate more variety, so it’s better for me to have the leftovers, salads, rice/grain based meal etc.

Paratha is made from wheat flour. It is not processed like bread and doesn't use any white flour either.

MadamDicey · 17/01/2025 12:08

Have whatever you fancy having any meal can be whatever you want it to be.

Ihopeyouhavent · 17/01/2025 10:52

Sourdough with balsamic and oil, chopped tomatoes and pickled onions!

This sounds lovely !

BigDahliaFan · 17/01/2025 12:42

potato waffles with streaky bacon (or halloumi) and roasted tomatoes, mushrooms, asparagus (I sometimes roast a load of veg and then it's just a quick heat up in the morning).

Balloonhearts · 17/01/2025 12:46

Scotch pancakes. Crumpets. Omelette if I have time.

IAmNeverThePerson · 17/01/2025 12:49

@Hoolahoophop

I just open a tin of lentils and add near the end.

StMarie4me · 17/01/2025 13:15

I do 16:8 so don't usually. But you could do porridge with water (it's fine!) or any proteins, fruits etc.

25GBUK · 17/01/2025 13:17

Some brilliant ideas here. I love avocado, tomatoes, mushrooms, lentils, roast veg etc. I would probably do a cooked breakfast on the weekend not during the week when I’m rushing around. I’ve never done overnight oats so I could try a version of that. I have toast for convenience as much as anything but as a pp said I need to cut down the carbs a bit as I get older.

I don't often eat breakfast but if I do I mainly have eggs of some kind - scrambled, fried on toast, boiled etc
Cheese, ham and tomato toastie
Bacon sandwich
Crumpets with butter and/or marmite
Cuppa soup
Toast

I don't like cereal or berries etc

user2848502016 · 17/01/2025 13:37

Scrambled eggs on toast or an omelette, yoghurt and fruit, home made smoothie, porridge or overnight oats, sometimes a protein bar if I'm short on time.
I hardly ever eat cereal anymore, mostly because I don't like milk much and they don't keep me full until lunchtime.

EmmaStone · 17/01/2025 13:58

Sorry, I'm a Greek yoghurt and fruit & nuts, or a poached egg girl, BUT, unless I've been working out in the morning, I try not to have breakfast at all (intermittent fasting)...

Blabla81 · 17/01/2025 14:05

For years I’ve always had Tescos rice cakes - chocolate orange before they stopped making them, now the salted caramel. Goes well with my cup of tea without bloating me too much.

biggreenapple24 · 17/01/2025 14:08

It is sort of toast, but I really like the thin German rye bread slices topped with all sorts of things.

I have avocado and spicy fried egg, but you could have cooked mushrooms, avo & pan friend tomatoes, hummus & asparagus, peanut butter.

Or a smoothie made with oats & fruit (this can get very high calorie if you're not careful!!)
