What do you eat for breakfast that’s not toast or cereal?

I have always eaten toast but I am finding it a bit stodgy some days especially if I have a sandwich for lunch and it’s just too much bread!

I don’t have cereal as I don’t like milk. I don’t like eggs and I don’t like berries and yogurt type things.

I am not as fussy as I sound! I am wondering what other people have and maybe it will give me some ideas.

Leftover pizza is still Breakfast of Champions.

I love eggs, and yogurt, so my usual choices aren’t much good to you OP.

Bagels are great for breakfast, or banana and pineapple smoothies with a handful of oats chucked in. Leftover chilli in a wrap is one of my favourites but DH thinks it’s weird.

I’ve been known to cook too many potatoes on purpose (boiled or a jacket or two), slice and fry them - in just a film of oil - and scramble an egg in with them. Takes only a very few minutes.

I sometimes microwave a couple of jacket potatoes and keep in the fridge for the purpose.

I was thinking I could just have anything I fancy, not just a ‘breakfast’ type food. I wouldn’t want anything spicy or heavy though.

Some lovely ideas 😊

You can have anything you fancy. You're an adult.

Nothing. Not helpful, but I fast daily until around 2pm and I’ve been doing it so long the idea of anything at all at breakfast time makes me nauseous.

My husband has overnight oats most days.

You can have anything you like. The breakfast police are not really a thing.

I can't face food first thing in the morning, and the thought of curry turns my stomach at the best of times. So my late morning suggestions would be:

Porridge with cream and honey
Poached eggs and grilled bacon
Greek yoghurt with honey and berries
Scrambled eggs with Tabasco to make them hot
Baked eggs and ham
A clear soup ( they call it 'bone broth' these days) maybe with gyoza
Prosciutto, olives and cheese
Feta and olives
Smoked salmon or smoked trout with cream cheese
A perfectly ripe pear with a hunk of Gorgonzola and walnuts
Room temperature rare roast beef with pickled walnuts

MagpiePi · 17/01/2025 10:42

porridge made with water with pumpkin seeds, ground flaxseed and ground ginger.
Or some fruit chopped into greek youghurt
Or leftovers from the previous night - curry or pizza are the best.

BunnyLake · 17/01/2025 10:43

You could maybe make the rice balls that are popular in Asia for breakfast?

ParsnipPuree · 17/01/2025 10:43

Kefir plain yogurt, whole grain granola, berries and pomegranate seeds

SereneCapybara · 17/01/2025 10:46

Skyr or Greek yoghurt with frozen blueberries or in summer fresh raspberries or strawberries, often with chopped walnuts or pecans, a sprinkle of sweet cinnamon and sometimes a drizzle of honey. If I've done a big workout before breakfast, I add a spoonful of low sugar granola.

A tablespoon of sugar free muesli bulked out with grated apple, blueberries and semi skimmed milk.

A slice of wholemeal from a small loaf so it's not too stodgy, toasted and topped with a poached egg or sliced avocado or fresh tomatoes and thyme.

A seeded bagel thin toasted with low fat cream cheese and a slice of smoked salmon, lemon and pepper.

Porridge with blueberries, half a chopped banana, cinnamon and honey.

Indian breakfasts are great for variety. They are not bread based and are nutritious. Things like stuffed paratha made from wheat flour, semolina with veggies(upma). You can find the recipes on Youtube.

But paratha is bread?

I’m no use o/p, it’s toast here. I have tried many many alternatives, and nothing hits the spot like toast.

if it were me the better option would be to ditch the sandwich at lunch - imo there’s more options and later on in the day I can tolerate more variety, so it’s better for me to have the leftovers, salads, rice/grain based meal etc.

SereneCapybara · 17/01/2025 10:47

@Words please would you share your recipe for the scrambled eggs with tabasco - I like the sound of that.

NeverHadHaveHas · 17/01/2025 10:49

Two low fat babybel, a small handful of cashews and some slices of apple/nectarine etc

BusySittingDown · 17/01/2025 10:49

Greek or natural yogurt with chocolate protein powder and some fruit. Usually apple and banana.

At the moment I've been having scrambled eggs on toast for a change.

JC03745 · 17/01/2025 10:49

I have no set thing, its different every day

-Leftovers from the night before
-My mum can't drink milk, and has always had apple or orange juice on cereal! Plain cereals, not added sugar ones though.
-Hash browns with avocado or cheese/tomato, cream cheese/smoked salmon on top
-Croissant with ham/cheese/tomato inside

SereneCapybara · 17/01/2025 10:50

Or streaky bacon, fried until crisp in a pan with some tomatoes and a sprinkling of garlic granules (can't be bothered to chop fresh garlic first thing in the morning.)

Ilovemyshed · 17/01/2025 10:51

Overnight oats generally. I make with milk but they can be made with apple juice

dudsville · 17/01/2025 10:51

I agree, have anything! I eat eggs any time of day, so for me sauted mushrooms and tomatoes with spinach and eggs with some hot sauce or soy sauce and chillies is a perfect breakfast.

BigDahliaFan · 17/01/2025 10:51

Change up the bread - have rye and smoked fish?

Congee.

Avocado on top of roasted tomatoes. with some seeds for texture.

Rice and fish.

Miso soup with tofu.

tomatoes, cucumber, chillies, something fermented, olives, some rice.

Sardines.

Ihopeyouhavent · 17/01/2025 10:52

Sourdough with balsamic and oil, chopped tomatoes and pickled onions!

Newmeagain · 17/01/2025 10:53

You could make a big pot of homemade baked beans - I really like a mix of different beans, including chickpeas.

Also overnight oats - you don’t need to use milk.

HeffalumpsAndWoozlesAreHoneyRobbingTwats · 17/01/2025 10:53

My favourite if I'm feeling posh is smoked salmon and scrambled eggs with dill. But it usually ends up being a blob of Greek yoghurt with either berries or wee bit of honey. Smoothies are good if you've got fresh fruit lying around. Just shove it in a blender with a spoon of yoghurt and a handful of spinach/cucumber.

Words · 17/01/2025 10:54

@SereneCapybara . It's just normal scrambled eggs and then shake in Tabasco - depends how fiery you like it! Also salt and black pepper. It's 😋

Starlight1984 · 17/01/2025 10:54

Crumpets, English muffins, potato cakes, croissants....

I'm not a fan of cereal other than porridge (none of it ever fills me up).

MrTiddlesTheCat · 17/01/2025 10:54

Today I had crispbreads with a little mayo, sliced cooked potato and chopped chives. They were blooming delicious.
