Your 'old lady' habits/tastes ;)

Do you like footspa? Have a crush on Alan Titchmarsh?

I'm 47 and I like to get Kriss Kross puzzle books when I go on holiday, I think their main market is the over 70s. I also like Fenjal bubble bath which I'm sure is rather an old lady thing.

Old ladies also welcome to add their old lady habits too! 😁

For all you lovers of old school stuff , if you are in or visiting Bath we have an old school pharmacy that stocks a lot of very old school products- it's called AH Hale and is at Lara place

That looks amazing - I have a Mason Pearson hairbrush that I use every day!

I'm an "old" lady of 65.

I hate -
Fenjal bubble baths
Footspas
Kriss Kross books
garden centres
Gardening programmes
Strictly Come Dancing, Bake Off, anything like that.
Any craft - crochet, knitting, lace work, etc.
Bingo

I DO like -
Rock music (favourite band is Linkin Park)
Very hot Indian food
Doc Martens
Ice skating

Edited

I love some of your hated stuff but also like Scandinavian death metal, Reggae and punk, JD & Coke, Horror books (just like my Nan!), horror films and crime stuff. Can't knit, sew, crochet, try to do crosswords (only metro and even then I struggle!), Quiz shoes but none of the singing/skating on ice shows. DOn't bother much with bake off etc

We’ve got a pharmacy like like in a small town near us and they filmed an episode of 'Endeavour' in there - no set-dressing needed!

AlwaysReadyForABlether · 19/01/2025 14:00

Reading this thread inspired me to tackle a job I’ve been putting off.
I’ve organised my bedding into individual boxes with a wrap around band and lavender sachet for each set.

The cupboard is now a thing of beauty and I keep opening the door to have a look.
All whilst catching up on Call the Midwife!

Crikeyalmighty · 19/01/2025 14:44

@EdithStourton yep I'm often to be found outside window shopping!! Pharmacy wise it's great too, has lots of old school remedy stuff, you never struggle for tubigrip or Ashton & parsons teething powdered or arnica gel etc it's quite fascinating -

WonderingWanda · 19/01/2025 14:50

My husband has always teased me for doing old lady crafts as he calls them (knitting, crochet and sewing) but they seem to have become a bit more fashionable over the last 10 years.

He laughs at my love for what he calls "Old fashioned school dinner puddings" like crumble and custard....or anything with custard.

MyFavouritePlace · 19/01/2025 18:48

Brilliant thread, just reading it has made me happy.
I'll be 58 this year and so much on this thread resonates with me.
Sketchers shoes.
Long shoe horn by the door.
Big knickers all the way.
Love to rewatch Agatha Christie's, Murder She Wrote and Colombo.

I've done those crafts since my teens 😀

There used to be a similar place not too far from us, but it got all modernised about 10 years ago....

It was fab.

I'm an old lady (62). I love Parma Violets.

Deathraystare · 20/01/2025 15:42

Of course...by quiz shoes I meant quiz shows! Before you look them up I am sure you don't need special shoes for quiz shows!!!!

Snowmanscarf · 20/01/2025 17:37

At work earlier, ‘phoned someone and greeted them by saying Mr Smith, not Michael. I still don’t like that everyone of all ages calls me by my first name - still find it over familiar at times.

Also, for the word ‘phone’, I still put a dash (not sure what its proper name is) to denote that part of the word is missing (see example above) .

StrikeForever · 20/01/2025 20:47

I also add the apostrophe to indicate missing letters and I fully punctuate my texts 😳

So do I and sometimes even say telephone

Oh me too. To the point where I refused to reply to our DDs if they used text speak or no punctuation in their messages to me [hardcore]

I don’t get many like that. When I get the odd m8 etc, I do reply, but my teeth are gritted and I’m tense about the entire thing!

HoraceCope · 21/01/2025 07:32

i am looking forward to the lighter mornings so i can watch the birds feeding on my new feeder!

QuinionsRainbow · 21/01/2025 13:46

Older than OP and many others here, but I still don't regard myself as old! Mature, maybe, but not OLD! That's probably why I still wear a jumper without a vest underneath, just like I did as a six-year-old, and have been sleeping au naturelle for nearly as long. Not planning to change any of these habits any time soon.

scalt · 21/01/2025 14:14

I sometimes wear my Skechers au naturel (no socks), like I see lots of older ladies doing in my home town.

While I'm not in these heights, my very Catholic grandmother used to rant about how contestants on the quiz show Fifteen To One knew so little about Christianity. She'd be turning in her grave about the phrase "imaginary friend" so often used on social media about people who believe in God.

Ah but you might, have you ever heard of “scone shoes”? If not, google Billy Connolly scone shoes -it’s hilarious 🤣

Auburngal · 21/01/2025 15:56

One old dear thing I refuse to do - wear beige. What a horrible and miserable colour. Even my DM is 74 doesn't do the beige thing
