Which celebs have you met in daily life?

I just met actor Irene Marot, who played Ron Dixon’s wife DD in Brookside, when she asked me for directions on a London street corner. Happy to report that she is absolutely delightful IRL. (I told her she looked familiar and she seemed surprised and chuffed that I had recognised her.)

So, which “celebrities” (A-list or otherwise) have you met by chance in a “civilian” or daily life context. And what were they like?

Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsey - expected JO to be lovely and GR to be a rude arsehole but it was the other way round.

Charlotte Hawkins from Good Morning Britain is really vile and actually quite vicious.

I think all the Good Morning Britain lot are horrors

The lovely Joanna Lumley. She tapped me on the shoulder in a hotel loo and said "you've got a bit of loo roll stuck to your heel sweetie". Divine woman.

😂😂👏🏼

Oh and how could I forget, I met Prince in Heaven nightclub on a Monday night when it was Land of Oz. Mid 90s, we were at the same bar (Heaven has a few) he bought me a drink but I was too star struck to say much 🤦🏻‍♀️

Slothmonkey · 15/01/2025 22:01

cafenoirbiscuit · 15/01/2025 22:02

Said it before but James May - just the loveliest man, and very patient with 2 9 year old boys. Humorous, kind and just so nice.
also Alice Roberts. She’s my fantasy BFF

CountryMouse22 · 15/01/2025 22:03

I met Alan Rickman in Harrods book department one Christmas Eve. I seemed to be the only who recognised him. He autographed my copy of MR James ghost stories!

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 15/01/2025 22:03

Oh and my mum has served David Tennant, Martin Freeman and Jason Watkins when they were making the various Nativity films. Even though she had no idea who any of them were she said they were all very nice people 😊.

A few footballers - all very pleasant and personable.

David Jason who was absolutely vile and utterly rude to my two young daughters.

Oh no ! What did he say to your daughters??

cossette · 15/01/2025 22:04

@MoonWoman69 The Fleece in Farsley? Used to see a lot of the Emmerdale cast in there in the late 80s and 90s

MyNameIsAckinckacker · 15/01/2025 22:06

Mine are all mostly comedians..

Met David Walliams a few times, Always been nice to me. He took a selfie of us and it's ended up being one of my favourite pictures.

Matt Lucas was lovely, Happy and smiley.

Jimmy Carr was nice, Showed him my tattoo and I was expecting him to take the piss out of it/me but he said he thought it was amazing. I was waiting for a taxi at the time.

Peter Kay spoke to me for a few minutes in a post office queue!

Alan Carr was lovely, One of my favourite people.

Greg Davies was nice.

Spoke to Micky Flanagan who was brilliant, Down to Earth.

My favourite was Michael McIntyre who was absolutely lovely to me. He made up some jokes about me on the spot for about five minutes and it's something I will never forget because it was so unexpected!

Michael C Hall (Dexter) on a train in London, He sat next to me, I was a huge fan of Dexter and his previous show (Six feet Under) at the time. He was lovely, Very polite.

Peter Davison (when he was the Doctor). Lovely, lovely man.

GG1986 · 15/01/2025 22:09

David Hasslehoff came into my work place once, nice man and almost seemed a little shy.

BackoffSusan · 15/01/2025 22:10

Used to work for Matt Tebbutt before he was famous, very lovely man!
When I was a waitress, I served Gordon Ramsay one evening and he was very polite and pleasant, came into the kitchen after to thank the staff for a great meal.
Pandora Sykes - mean girls vibe
Once saw Nicole Appleton, Emma Bunton, Paddy McGuiness, Keith lemon, Holly Willoughby all on a night out together, totally smashed. It was the night that Paddy and Nicole were papped going to a hotel together and they were very flirty with each other, you could tell something was going on.

nannyrosy · 15/01/2025 22:14

Vinnie jones - still thinking

When I worked for a local council I spoke to John Craven on the phone several times. He seemed absolutely lovely, polite and chatty.

When I was about 6, I had a massive crush on him!

Richard1985 · 15/01/2025 22:18

Went to school with Lewis Hamilton. Nice kid if you stayed on the right side of him. Wasn’t afraid to give the racists a slap

CollaterlieSistersSister · 15/01/2025 22:18

Quite a few in my line of work, but I hereby declare Siobhan Finneran the absolute bloody loveliest.

For all her many plaudits and glowing reviews, she seems to have weathered any mad ego potential and is just, well, lovely. And fun. And normal.

Actually Steve Pemberton can go in there as well. Maybe a touch of ego occasionally, but only in the way he may say something he’s done is good. But it’s more perhaps that he’s proud of it, so nowt wrong with that really. But he’s also fabulous company, and from what I’ve seen lovely to all the people he encounters.

Forgotten until I read this but I remember certain quarters of the internet being alight with rumours that it was Holly and Paddy having the fling and Nicole took the rap to save HWs reputation. Which never made sense to me. I'd do a lot for my friends but getting myself dragged through the tabloids for having a fling with a married man probably isn't one of them.
