Which celebs have you met in daily life?

I just met actor Irene Marot, who played Ron Dixon’s wife DD in Brookside, when she asked me for directions on a London street corner. Happy to report that she is absolutely delightful IRL. (I told her she looked familiar and she seemed surprised and chuffed that I had recognised her.)

So, which “celebrities” (A-list or otherwise) have you met by chance in a “civilian” or daily life context. And what were they like?

Spoke to my mum and its was entirely possible to wake up to find him at the end of your bed WTAF?!

Apparently he could come and go as he pleased, it always bothered her that when she was there he was fixated on one girl who was paraplegic with very little family, he would always draw the curtains round her bed and be there for ages. When my mum mentioned it to the nurse she brushed it off and said he was like a Dad to her and was giving her away at her upcoming wedding. Absolute madness and very sad.

Yes this was highlighted in the drama series recently with Steve Coogan. He waltzed into the hospitals as he pleased and got really aggressive with anyone who questioned him

Makes me shudder, if I can bear it, I might try and watch that.

Worth watching for Steve Coogan's astonishing performance of a blatant entitled paedo

CrowleyKitten · 21/01/2025 20:54

his acting in it is absolutely fantastic. absolutely chilling.

DadOf2rascals · 23/01/2025 16:25

Peter Capaldi came into my work one day for a coffee, He was very quiet and came and left without being noticed by any customers

@TreacleTarcleSparkle re: Charlotte Hawkins - it's very specific and quite outing, but in broad terms she has been really awful to some friends of mine. It wasn't a brief chance encounter or a case of catching her at a bad moment and she has made their lives significantly more difficult.

oh that reminds me, that's another Normal life thing. not a huge celeb, but my Uncles ex sister in Law wrote the Worst Witch books. the Murphys were all a bit odd though.

Jill Murphy.

When I was a little girl, she visited my primary school. I was off sick that day, and missed her. I was devastated.

A few days later, I received a letter from her, with a photograph. She said she’d read my stories, and they were “terrific, full of imagination.” She’d drawn a little bird sitting on my name on the envelope.

Such a kind thing to do. I’ve had a soft spot for her ever since and was so sad when she passed away.

@FatFiatMultiplaWhopper
wow! When I just read your description about CH I went straight to thinking of my very wise irish late grandmother and how she used to always tell me it’s the ‘sweeter than sweet and Miss little nice girls who are the worst ones! And she seems to be so correct especially after reading your description and now I can actually kind of ‘see’ it .. (a bit in the same way as Katherine Jenkins and Lorraine Kelly - both sickly sweet but I’ve heard they too are ‘allegedly ‘ little horrors!)

I hadn't pondered this much but have actually met or seen a fair few. Just London life i think.

Madonna, Guy, Rocco, said hi but it seemed inappropriate to interrupt them on the street - wish I had started a convo though...
Maxi Jazz, RIP, lovely - dated him for a bit
Goldie - nice and humble
Judi Dench - very sweet
Julian Clary - fun and friendly
Grayson Perry - nice and warm
Toni Morrison - book signing, bit stern
Eve The Rapper - also a book signing, very polite and friendly
Lenny Kravitz - gorgeous. Lisa Stansfield - sweet, Paul McCartney - seemed charming - all from being in Top of The Pops audience as a teenager.

Jimmy Carr- very friendly
Matthew Perry (RIP) tall and friendly, signed autographs for us
Hank Azaria - Phoebe’s David the science guy from friends and the Simpson voices, the nicest guy I’ve ever met!
Steve Redgrave- rower, grumpy and no sense of humour

I know you posted this ages ago, but I love Hank Azaria.
Did you know he auditioned twice for the Joey Role? 😍

When I was 18, my mother took me to London to see some shows. We were cutting across Covent Garden to get to a theatre and getting rather lost when we saw a man approaching us and so we thought we would ask him for directions.

Not only was he very helpful but also apologised that he couldn't spend longer to help us as he was running late to get to his theatre.

It was Richard Briers.

Ah I forgot that I met Zara McDermott a few years ago through work when she was shooting a BBC documentary and we had to speak for about an hour 1:1. I can't really say she left an impression on me either way.

Also only Scots posters will understand but many of the take the high road cast when I was small. My papa worked for stv.

Mrs mack sent my mum a real fur pink teddy bear when I was born.

Also met Glen Michael many times.

Glen Michael's a legend. V jealous. Used to work in airport in late 80s so spoke to many of the old firm who played for Scotland. Nice fellas. Frank MacAvennie lovely guy. Very sweet to us cafe girls/ladies. He was always back n forth

mepipesneedlagging · 29/06/2025 15:34

'Matty' (Bobby Grant's best mate) from Brookie, supping in a Southport pub circa 1990 😂
In my defence, he was involved in a huge storyline when Sheila Grant was attacked.

ShinyPebble32 · 30/06/2025 07:29

I remembered another one who was a total arse. Not a major celeb but it was Nick Nevern, who plays Liz’s ex in Motherland is also in a lot of those atrocious Essex gangster films.
His girlfriend is a friend of a friend and I met him a a festival, he was just being super loud and obnoxious, walking round with a little entourage giving serious ‘do you know who I am’ vibes, and swore at me when I dared to speak to them! His girlfriend is really sweet and sensible though, so maybe he was just having a bad day 😬

Sounds exactly like his character in Motherland!

Stressed199401 · 01/07/2025 22:25

Tracey beaker (dani harmer) in my local Lidl, made my day but also wth 😂 nipped in for a loaf of bread and bumped into a childhood icon, that’s a lot for a Thursday morning. I live in a place you wouldnt expect a famous person to be.

Googled him, and wouldn’t have recognised him at all, and I’ve seen all of motherland multiple times

Titsywoo · 01/07/2025 22:31

Cliff Richard in the freezer section of a supermarket in Portugal - he lived nearby and had bodyguards with him. Didn't get to talk to him.

Rod Hull in the London hotel I worked in as a teenager. He was a lovely friendly man.

Jimmy Saville in the room we had drinks and snacks in after my dad ran a marathon for the same charity as him. He was a weird man. I was 11 I think.

Shelley108 · 08/07/2025 23:17

I kind of met Leigh Anne Pinnocks husband last Friday 😂 love Little Mix and all their solo careers. He gave my neighbours daughter a ride in his impressive expensive car to her Prom. Nice guy 👍 Andre Grey footballer 👍 if I wasn’t told I’d have been none the wiser as I hate football 😂

Several but the funniest recently was when I met Beverly Knight a few years ago at the Oliviers.. We were having a conversation about the lack of BSL Interpreters... I was warming to my subject, swung my arm out and nearly took out Alexandra Burke who I didn't know was standing next to me!
