Which celebs have you met in daily life?

I just met actor Irene Marot, who played Ron Dixon’s wife DD in Brookside, when she asked me for directions on a London street corner. Happy to report that she is absolutely delightful IRL. (I told her she looked familiar and she seemed surprised and chuffed that I had recognised her.)

So, which “celebrities” (A-list or otherwise) have you met by chance in a “civilian” or daily life context. And what were they like?

That does not surprise me one bit!

I personally know Vernon Kay. He's a very lovely person

Derren Brown. Absolutely not like you might worry what a magician would be - he was thoughtful, generous, down to earth and so kind.

Was he or did he hypnotise you so that you thought that? 😉

DH is desperate to go and see him but I’m too scared to be in a room with him. DB not DH.

And a family member regularly used to serve the members of Black Sabbath, including Ozzy (and Sharon). Said they were always the nicest, quietest and most polite customers they could wish for. So far removed from being notorious hell raisers!

Phil Jupitus absolutely rat arsed in Gorilla, Manchester.
I knew Phil Neville’s wife when I was a kid.
Jonathan Ross in Union Chapel bar waiting for a gig. He was really chuffed that Jane had given him ‘a pass’ and he was delightful. He was with Andy Nyman and I didn’t know who that was at the time.
Loads of footballers.
John Prescott, who I found to be a very nice man.
Gem from Oasis in a hotel bar. I didn’t know who he was because I like Iron Maiden and struggle to look outside of my music bubble. He chatted to us for ages. Thought my DH knew him from work 😂
Noel Gallagher watching U2. Obviously knew who that was.
Richard Ashcroft waiting outside my school to meet his cousin, who was teaching there, and then again when I went to the premier of SuperSonic in Manchester (DH needed a plus 1 but I did enjoy myself).
Ricky Hatton at supersonic and then again sat next to us at Leeds Arena for a gig. Very nice and happy to pose with fans for ages.
Liam Gallagher - he was playing a gig next to my flat and hiding out round the back canal side. Lots of teenage boys hanging out desperate to meet him and he was lovely with them. Not what I expected. None of the arrogance. We watched him for a while and he was so good with them, gave them loads of time and was genuinely interested in what they had to say. Those boys were absolutely made up.

Longsight2019 · 15/01/2025 21:39

Jules Holland
Samia Ghadi or whatever she’s called this week
Simon Rimmer - really polite and friendly
Jean Christoff Novelli
Paul Ainsworth

Chris Barrie (Mr Brittas, Rimmer), entertaining and bright
Joanna Lumley, charming dainty and neat rather than glam
Michael Caine, charming
John Major, surprisingly charismatic
David Cameron, not charismatic, curated
Helena Bonham-Carter - not very nice

The Helena Bonham-Carter part has shocked me!

LasagneLasagne · 15/01/2025 21:40

George Harrison - polite and very unassuming.
Elle McPherson - ugh
Gail Porter - lovely

BitOutOfPractice · 15/01/2025 21:41

Lemmy came and sat next to me on a bar stool in bar in LA. We chatted, he bought me a beer. Lovely man.

Passed Marco Pierre White and Gordon Ramsay coming out of a bar as I was going in. MPW really rude, let the door go in my face, GR graciously apologised and held the door to let me go through!

MrsMoastyToasty · 15/01/2025 21:41

A friend of mine used to know Ozzy and a lot of other Black Country/West Mids musicians, said Ozzy was lovely and polite. My mate's still pretty pally with The Wizard, who is pretty sound apparently, likes to live a quiet life.

Noddy Holder. Genuinely lovely man but very difficult to remain polite towards between November and January when I'd heard him telling me "it's Christmassss" a million times from the Christmas hits cd we'd have playing on repeat.

Oh oh I would LOVE to meet Noddy! I'm so glad to hear he's lovely.

Apollobinds · 15/01/2025 21:18

Nadine Dorries - rude and entitled. Even said ‘don’t you know who am I?’ 😂

Brian Clough said that, my Dad bless his football hating heart said "No." and edged away from the crazy smelly drunk guy.

78Summer · 15/01/2025 21:44

Cilla Black. I was the rehearsal actress on Blind date. I was so excited to meet her as remembered her from Surprise Surprise. She swept in - glared down and me and sniped ‘you’re a bit small aren’t you’ in a very hostile tone. I was totally shocked and disappointed.

FatFiatMultiplaWhopper · 15/01/2025 21:45

Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsey - expected JO to be lovely and GR to be a rude arsehole but it was the other way round.

Charlotte Hawkins from Good Morning Britain is really vile and actually quite vicious.

Also, through friends:
Mike Jones - Clash/Big Audio Dynamite (friend was their official photographer)
Ant and Dec on my Hen weekend in 2002 whilst they were filming Pop Idol in Manchester (staying in same hotel).
Also met Amy Winehouse many times in Camden RIP, Kate Moss, Peal Lowe, Sadie Frost, Jude Law (exH went to school with him).

Also only Scots posters will understand but many of the take the high road cast when I was small. My papa worked for stv.

Mrs mack sent my mum a real fur pink teddy bear when I was born.

Also met Glen Michael many times.

My Dad worked at STV, Glen Michael was around when we used to have the children's Xmas party in the big studio. Can't remember much though. Please tell me he's lovely, my heart couldn't bear it if he turned out to be horrible.

Apparently they were all a lot nicer and better mannered than some of the general public sometimes. I think they had every 70's musician pass through at some point. Roy Wood and Dave Hill were other regular customers and again really salt of the earth people.

AllThePotatoesAreSinging · 15/01/2025 21:47

Also live very near the chef Lisa Goodwin Allen and I wish I was her friend! She’s so nice.

XelaM · 15/01/2025 21:47

James Norton - sooooooo nice and chatty.

Lily Collins - she's absolutely TINY in person and was also very nice to me even though I've never been a fan.

Alvaro Morte - very handsome.

Tomatocutwithazigzagedge · 15/01/2025 21:50

Richard Attenborough and his wife, years and years ago. He was adorable and seemed delighted that I'd gone to the cinema to watch Gandhi as a young teenager.

Kathy Burke, sympathised with myself and my colleague for working on a bank holiday and promised not to blag on us for smoking on the fire escape. 😂😂😂

Bill Beaumont at a fancy restaurant in London, apologised for his loud table guests, and when we said we hadn't noticed he said he was glad, as we were the only other table that looked like we were enjoying our evening.

Robert Carlyle really chatty and lovely. Cute too!

Apparently she had a reputation for being rude. My SiL grew up near her and she was well known locally for being a nasty woman.

mitogoshigg · 15/01/2025 21:53

Tony Robinson was lovely, was sat on the next table to us in a pub. Watched a football match in a pub with Jeremy Vine who was pretty interesting to chat to, no "I'm a celebrity" vibes. Used to commute regularly on the same train as Ian Hislop (when he still had a full head of hair and was new to TV!)

Whereland · 15/01/2025 21:54

Matt Damon at a restaurant in Las Vegas. Really friendly
