Which celebs have you met in daily life?

I just met actor Irene Marot, who played Ron Dixon’s wife DD in Brookside, when she asked me for directions on a London street corner. Happy to report that she is absolutely delightful IRL. (I told her she looked familiar and she seemed surprised and chuffed that I had recognised her.)

So, which “celebrities” (A-list or otherwise) have you met by chance in a “civilian” or daily life context. And what were they like?

And Joe Armstrong, of robin hood and happy valley. He was very pleasant.

I have a huge crush on him

Girasole02 · 15/01/2025 20:46

Fred Flintoff. Unassuming, no side you him at all. Very tall.

When I worked for a local council I spoke to John Craven on the phone several times. He seemed absolutely lovely, polite and chatty.

He lives very near me!

StMick · 15/01/2025 20:47

Not a massive celebration but Sian Williams who was bbc news reader, on the sand holiday site in Cornwall. She wished my son happy birthday and asked did I recommend the haddock risotto

Chicheguevara · 15/01/2025 20:49

I used to see Martin Shaw, quite often, when I lived in a nearby area to him. He was walking and I was out cycling. Passed him 2 or 3 times a week. I would say ‘good evening’ sometimes he would reply, sometimes not. But was was going 15+mph and he was walking towards, on the road, so might have missed a few good evenings. I never stopped as I know he is fiercely private.

By phone, I spoke with Barry Sheene, Nigel Mansell, Paul Heiney, Libby Purves and Chris Packham. All for an old job. Nobody was rude nor came across as entitled.

BelligerentToad · 15/01/2025 20:50

Tony Robinson - condescending pretentious tit.

jeenjeenie · 15/01/2025 20:50

Rolf Harris and his wife in the park
George Best in a pub in Chelsea, very friendly
Michael Parkinson in his pub , quite grumpy
Elvis Costello at the airport, very friendly
Chrissie Hynde , nice but quite wary

Many many years ago I went with my cousin and another adult to collect Christopher Biggins from a small event he was at (my aunty was friends with his mum) This was about 40 years ago now so he wasn't very famous (if at all). He didn't even acknowledge us kids in the back of the car and was really grumpy all the way home 😂 I'm sure he's a delight now though x

He's not. At least he wasn't 20 years ago. Absolute diva. His job was to get on stage and say thank you to some people. He asked me to write him a cue card which I did. Only he couldn't read it, it had to be bigger, which I did. The fourth or fifth attempt was in marker pen, absolutely massive. It said thank - you 😂

Circa the 90's I drank with most of the then Emmerdale cast. It was filmed opposite our local. They were all lovely.
James Bolam, lovely, polite man.

Does/did your village begin with F? I went to school there if so

Derren Brown. Absolutely not like you might worry what a magician would be - he was thoughtful, generous, down to earth and so kind.

I met him as well, just remembered. It was in central London and my friend saw him and started shouting ‘Derren Brown!’ and waving 🙈 We were very young at the time.
Derren was so nice and came over to us to chat but asked us to keep it down as he didn’t want to draw attention. He was absolutely lovely.

Lewis Hamilton. Absolute wanker and his siblings. Beat up my DS and broke his nose in the toilets at school.

John Henry Newman in Stevenage? Yes, that fits with what I've heard about him. Long after my time. It was St Angela's then.

jackdawss · 15/01/2025 20:56

Tinhead from brookside.

lifeisacat · 15/01/2025 20:59

Met a few via work.
Alisa Dixon, lovely woman
Jane Asher, classy and beautiful
Samatha Cameron, was nice enough
Mel C was really lovely, down to earth and we chatted about our kids.
Played tennis with Cliff Richard as a child.

Been yelled at by a WAG, but won't say which one, but her husband is always polite and kind.

MadisonAvenue · 15/01/2025 21:01

Billie Joe Armstrong
Bez
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
Patrice Evra
Simon O’Brien (Damon from Brookside)
All of Duran Duran
Sir Bobby Robson

All were really lovely

Snugmummy · 15/01/2025 21:01

Oh I met Dame Edna Everage years ago and he was an absolute delight!

JackJarvisEsq · 15/01/2025 20:18

No, Scottish and unlikely to be well known

no longer Mrs footballer. I was shocked and stunned when that divorce went through 🤨

Oh do tell.

NoGwenItsABoxingDayTrifle · 15/01/2025 21:04

I served Roy Walker at work, seemed nice and happy to be recognised.
I also bumped into Mark Owen In Leister Square back in the nineties, I can't tell you what he was like because I lost the ability to talk on sight (I was a teenager and head over heels in love with him)

Elderflower14 · 15/01/2025 21:07

I serve Peter Purves most Saturdays.. Also see Amanda Donohoe in the shop.
Joan Hickson when Miss Marple was filmed at ours.
David Bowie smiled at me at an auction.
Keith Floyd came to stay for the weekend. He asked my sister for a mallet to shut me up!! 🤣
Anthony Head.. Wilf taught him the sign language for vampire.
There are more but my mind has gone blank at the moment.

GrandTheftWalrus · 15/01/2025 21:07

Had pictures taken with Roy Walker many moons ago in Blackpool.

Ive seen/met many through work.

Had to give Jack Whitehall directions at a festival.

Served many ex rangers players in a shop i worked in again many moons ago.

Looked after paul mcstays young daughter when he was ice skating. I am a rangers fan and he was ex celtic player but a very nice man.

Odiebay · 15/01/2025 21:08

Jk Rowling in a cafe - so kind to me and comes across very intelligent. Talked for around 20minutes.
Rowan Atkinson - polite. Quiet and reserved.
Jeremy Clarkson - assumed I wanted a picture of him and quite arrogant
Chico (if he counts) didn't know who he was but had signed photos on him ready to hand out 😂
Taylor swift - although through work but wasn't expecting her to be there. Walked in the room and she got up to introduce herself with her first name. Threw me completely😂 very polite and engaged with people around her. Stayed longer than anyone and had time for everyone.
Peter Andre - seems polite but actually quite.. slimy.. gave me the ick.

Tracystubbs · 15/01/2025 21:08

Timmy mallett
He did a tour of the town I now live in and instagrammed it
Nice enough bloke, bit up his own arse and did the whole looking-round-to-see-who-recognised-him
I didn't (even though I used to be a massive whack-a-day fan back in the day) and dp didn't watch it
He was posing outside a shop called 'timmys' (I think it sells overpriced milkshakes)
Dp pointed him out as we walked past him on the way to our local vintage shop

David Attenborough
I'm going back many years, but there was some environmental thingy going on in my home towns city centre
It was billed as a 'children's celebrity' would be there
My father (who is the biggest environmental activist I know) really wanted to go but with it being aimed at kids,he didn't want to go alone in case he looked like a bit of a pervert
He looked round, realised he had 4 small people wandering around and they happened to call him dad,so he gathered us all up and off we went, all excited to meet this mysterious celeb
We really thought it would be phillip schofield,Jimmy Savile or rolf harris (!!!!) so to say we where disappointed to see Sir David was an understatement
My father was tongue tied while speaking to him but we kept nagging to go home again
We got into a lot of trouble for being rude (more disinterested than rude) and I can say he was very kind, spoke in depth with my father and was a lovely bloke

Sorry Sir David

Jimmy Carr sitting having dinner alone beside us in a restaurant. Incredibly unpleasant + hostile man - very rude towards staff. Despite it being quite a fancy restaurant he had a takeaway Starbucks coffee with him and sipped on it throughout his meal. Money can’t buy class!

Doesn’t surprise me at all. I get a really bad vibe off of him. He’s cold and reptilian. And his humour is ugly and cruel.

iwillfollowyou · 15/01/2025 21:09

I worked in a hotel in the north in the early noughties. Met several soap stars mostly down to earth although Ashley from Corrie was an arse. Mel c who was lovely and polite and very tiny. Paul Heaton who was polite but not looking to chat.

shellyleppard · 15/01/2025 21:11

I spoke to Jilly cooper on the train going to bath years ago. Helped her outside when she needed directions...... lovely lovely lady. I have also met Steve Davis (snooker player) . We were sat outside the leisure centre where the tournament was eyeballing all the posh cars 🤣🤣 oh to be a teenager in the 80's again

GrandTheftWalrus · 15/01/2025 21:11
