Which celebs have you met in daily life?

I just met actor Irene Marot, who played Ron Dixon’s wife DD in Brookside, when she asked me for directions on a London street corner. Happy to report that she is absolutely delightful IRL. (I told her she looked familiar and she seemed surprised and chuffed that I had recognised her.)

So, which “celebrities” (A-list or otherwise) have you met by chance in a “civilian” or daily life context. And what were they like?

John Goodman, many years ago. He was very kind to the child me.

Sheffield, surely?

If he was in Holby it's Jeremy Edwards.

Awaywiththefairies078 · 17/01/2025 09:40

Peter Andre. He was the loveliest man. So friendly.

I’m an actor/singer so I’ve met quite a few famous people via work. Several years ago I was lucky enough to audition for a role in the revival of Victoria Wood’s play Talent at the Menier Chocolate Factory Theatre. I knew I probably wouldn’t get it - they were obviously seeing every Northern actress in London! - but I was so excited to meet her as she’s always been one of my comedy heroes. I was lucky enough to read my scene with Victoria herself, ie she was saying the other character’s lines. I didn’t get the job but it was a wonderful experience to meet her and especially under those circumstances. I was nervous and star struck but managed to hide it. She was softly spoken and really friendly, but quite introverted, and kind enough to laugh at my jokes! As I was leaving the room at the end of the audition I went out the wrong door by accident (it was a cupboard!) so I think my nerves got the better of me by that point. She was such a lovely talented lady.

She was top class - a real talent ❤️ Her at the piano singing about random local people - understatedly brilliant.

Jeremy Sheffield is also ex- Holbh

Jeremy Edwards and Jeremy Sheffield , yes both Holby actors and very very different physically

BTshun · 17/01/2025 10:31

Mine are all a bit tenuous. Spotted Joanna Lumley regularly in Sainsbury’s, Vauxhall.

Worked in a hotel in LA years ago where Helen Baxendale used to stay when making Friends. I’d have to sign for scripts at the front desk.

Not a celeb per se, but took daughter to see a senior school recently. One of the girls that showed us around was Harper Beckham. Was oblivious to her identity until afterwards and asked questions like where she lived and how she got to school. Purely because I wanted to gauge what parts of town the girls came from and logistics of getting there etc.

There are multiple posts on this thread, and a similar thread a few years back, about Saville making people’s skin crawl and openly letching. Sounds like it was patently obvious what he was like even back then, which makes the BBC’s cover up and denial all the more horrifying.

Laughing at the Christopher Biggins anecdotes as I met him and had a similar experience to PPs. It was a posh work dinner on a cruise ship and he was very loud and pompous and seemed to think it was the Christopher Biggins show, which it was not (as in, he'd been invited along in the same capacity as all the other guests and not as any sort of special guest).

I met Jarvis Cocker who I have adored since the mid 90s and he did not disappoint. He was surrounded by cool (at the time) Shoreditch types but he separated himself from the group to give me the time of day and made me feel appreciated as a fan.

Met Charlie Dimmock at another work do (fundraising charity auction and black tie dinner and dance) and she bid thousands for an all-inclusive Caribbean holiday which she then announced on stage that she was giving to my husband and me because she enjoyed our mad moves on the dance floor (we were utterly hammered 😂) and said that she wanted to give the holiday to the 'most romantic couple in the room!' So I will always love Charlie for my free holiday to Antigua.

Just totally outed myself to anyone who know me in RL cause most of them know the Dimmock story 😂

What a great story - always had a feeling that Charlie would be nice ❤️

John Major, surprisingly charismatic

I read once that John Major's charisma makes you feel like you're the only woman in the room. I can believe it to be fair

He gave a talk recently at DS’s friend’s school. They said he was great, really interesting.

Nannyfannybanny · 17/01/2025 12:07

My late father and my oldest DD met the late queen,at a polo match both said how tiny she was.

XelaM · 17/01/2025 07:01

Wow that's so rude. 😧

Brian Cox on the other hand didn't mind at all when my friend asked him for a selfie.

Yes, weren't they rude to ask gor a selfie?

Can you imagine this kind of thing ALL DAY long when you're out? If even the 'quiet and reserved family' do it then how many other families, less quiet and reserved will?

Donsyb · 17/01/2025 13:00

Rami Malek - very charming
Paul Hollywood, Noel Fielding, Alison Hammond
Al Murray
Oti Mabuse
Jude Law
“lady violet bridgerton”
Natalie tena

all were at least polite, most friendly. Rami was a delight

Suzypoo10 · 17/01/2025 13:38

Kate Bush before she was famous - we went to the same school (she was two years above me).
Patsy Palmer sat behind me on a flight to Paris. When we landed, she started chatting away to my two year old son.
Glenda Jackson, looking at underwear in M&S in Woolwich. She said something to me but I was so star struck I didn’t hear what she said and got all tongue tied.
Kasabian - they were doing a warm up pre-tour gig in Swindon. They came out of a side door just as we were passing and started chatting to us, much to teenage son’s delight, as he was a massive fan.
Boy George’s sister gate crashed my sisters 21st birthday party - does that count?

CeceliaImrie · 17/01/2025 13:39

Well yes! No wonder they are at times churlish or rude. I would be .

Lifelover16 · 17/01/2025 14:15

We were the only other guests having coffee and we waited until he was about to leave and asked him very politely.
I understand selfies may be annoying but just a quick “ no thanks, not today” would have sufficed. To berate two teenage girls and encourage your wife and another companion to do so was utterly unnecessary. It took much longer to be rude and abusive than it would to have had a quick selfie.

🙄 no wonder all these zelebrities think they are God's gift if the general public who made them famous accept to be treated like crap.

I met Mike Reid (Frank Butcher) years ago in his dressing room while I was at the same venue. I was only about 18 and he must have been pushing 50. He was coming on to me, talking about my legs. I didn't feel comfortable!

I have always been surprised no one has ever come forward about him since the Jimmy Savile/Rolf Harris etc stories broke

Auburngal · 17/01/2025 15:04

A car stopped asked me for directions to a hotel car park when I lived in Leeds - I instantly recognised the voice - John Barnes

Mid 90s, on a school exchange trip to France, we had a day in Paris. Got out of the lift in the Eiffel Tower. There was Anthea Turner filming a piece for Wish You Were Here. A friend took a photo of us with AT in the background.

Leeds, early 00s, walking past a bar and bouncers refused entry for Mark Charnock (Marlon from Emmerdale) he was shouting "Do you know who I am?"

In a call centre job - spoke to Craig Bellamy - the Welsh footballer. He was cocky and a complete pain. I thought it was him. Googled him and his DOB matched on the account and what I found online.

On many occasions, Martin Johnson, the former England rugby union captain. As his late mother was my PE teacher and head of house at school. Was a student there back in the day. Mrs J was proud I put the effort into PE when I hated it.

HoolieJem · 17/01/2025 15:05

Really sorry I didn't realise there were 2 Jeremy's!

Auburngal · 17/01/2025 15:07

My parents shared hotel lifts with Bobby Charlton and his wife in Bruges, Belgium. Julian Clary and later on the day, Christopher Biggins in a hotel in Norwich.

Pamelaaaaarrr · 17/01/2025 15:08

David Beckham - Extremely gracious and welcoming
Tom Hanks - Feel like he was putting on a show
Gordon Ramsay - As you imagine him

Auburngal · 17/01/2025 15:11

When Richard Hammond had that accident which he was hospitalised in Leeds General Infirmary, I was leaving LGI after an appt. Saw Jeremy Clarkson entering the main building. Said to him "Give the Hamster my regards". He said will do.

Christopher Biggins seems to really get around judging by all the annecdotes on here - i feel quite left out that I haven’t seen him 😂
