Which celebs have you met in daily life?

I just met actor Irene Marot, who played Ron Dixon’s wife DD in Brookside, when she asked me for directions on a London street corner. Happy to report that she is absolutely delightful IRL. (I told her she looked familiar and she seemed surprised and chuffed that I had recognised her.)

So, which “celebrities” (A-list or otherwise) have you met by chance in a “civilian” or daily life context. And what were they like?

Kim Wilde.. Really lovely and said hello to me before I realised who she was!
Professor Joann Fletcher at a talk and book signing, absolutely lovely lady, so chatty and enthusiastic about her subject, and interested in what I had to say.

I played uno with Emily Blunt a number of times. She was Juliet in Romeo and Juliet and I worked in the green room at the theatre There was a bit of downtime between shows and we were both 17. This was before Devil wears prada

To link back to the OP, Jason Hope who played Rod Corkhill - I was leaving my lunchtime restaurant shift and he asked when we were opening up again - very polite.

John Barnes - at the same restaurant - again, very polite.

BobbySox71 · 16/01/2025 20:33

Loads of Irish rugby players including Jonny Sexton and Brian O’Driscoll. Tadhg Furlong was the funniest
Mary Berry
Terry Wogan
Catherine Fulvio (Irish tv chef), my brother is married to her sister

Maray1967 · 16/01/2025 20:34

And Mark Addy - in a different restaurant on the same street in Liverpool. Very lovely - asked us what we thought of the Full Monty, and had a great discussion with us about how it reflected life in Sheffield. He didn’t mind folks stopping to chat.

I’m an actor/singer so I’ve met quite a few famous people via work. Several years ago I was lucky enough to audition for a role in the revival of Victoria Wood’s play Talent at the Menier Chocolate Factory Theatre. I knew I probably wouldn’t get it - they were obviously seeing every Northern actress in London! - but I was so excited to meet her as she’s always been one of my comedy heroes. I was lucky enough to read my scene with Victoria herself, ie she was saying the other character’s lines. I didn’t get the job but it was a wonderful experience to meet her and especially under those circumstances. I was nervous and star struck but managed to hide it. She was softly spoken and really friendly, but quite introverted, and kind enough to laugh at my jokes! As I was leaving the room at the end of the audition I went out the wrong door by accident (it was a cupboard!) so I think my nerves got the better of me by that point. She was such a lovely talented lady.

Are you sure somebody from Brookside is a "celebrity "?

@Notmoanaagain what did Holly do?? I get so intrigued with how she is so 'happy/fake' and then awful in real life

Yes, huge shock as was some years ago and I loved her on This Morning and how she came across. She was like the bitchy, intimidating girl at school…scary mean, just a negative aura about her, very strong and dominant in personality. The complete opposite of what I expected. I was actually quite upset at the time as I was so shocked, which sounds dramatic, it was just bizarre and very disappointing.
Very pretty though, it was when she was larger and had long hair.

PrimitivePerson · 16/01/2025 21:17

Quite a few...

Comedian David Mitchell - saw him on the tube once, asked him for his autograph, and he was lovely.
Nik Kershaw - met him after seeing him live, lovely guy who was genuinely appreciative when I told him how much his music meant to me.
Sebastian Coe - used to sell tickets to him when I worked at a station. Complete asshole. Likewise Max Clifford, who also bought tickets off me occasionally.
Prince Edward visited my workplace once. I don't have any time for royals, but he came across as genuinely interested in what we did and asked some intelligent questions. I know he'd have been briefed, but even so, he left a positive impression.
Most recently, I gave directions to actor Graham Cole, who played PC Tony Stamp in The Bill - he was the show's longest running character.

I once spoke to Debbie McGee on the phone, does that count?

She was very pleasant.

Years ago I was on a work training course with her sister, she was lovely.

Zocola · 16/01/2025 21:30

The man who used to play "The demon headmaster" , lived across the road from me with his wife who was also an actress( often on t.v), lovely down to earth people.

Thanks. Ew what a princess! I can imagine her to be like that but then as I said when she seems genuinely happy and friendly on tv it's hard to believe. Although I do believe it.

Peter Davison (when he was the Doctor). Lovely, lovely man.

He was my childhood hero and I still would!

BySparklyMoose · 16/01/2025 21:40

Courtney Love standing behind me in top shop on Oxford street, much prettier and delicate/diminutive than the awful press photos of her at the time portrayed. Tom Hardy, won’t give the details on this one, but again, for an attractive man, he was even more attractive in the flesh, a sort of glow about him. Tony Blair (not celebrity but yeah). Matt Lucas (small), Jane Seymore, (assertive :)), jenny agutter, PJ Harvey.

I’m at a complete loss as to why anybody wants to meet a celebrity, just normal people like the rest of us never really understood that stuff to be honest

CrazylazyJane · 16/01/2025 21:45

Harold Wilson when I was a toddler in a branch of NatWest bank. My mum said he was lovely to me when I toddled over to him and his wife, and they gave me a pound coin to put in my piggy bank.

Shaun Williamson (Barry from Eastenders) absolutely lovely. Chatted to me and told me he lived in a town where my nan had moved to and I was visiting that evening. The next day asked me how my nan was and how long she had lived in the town. I was just a lowly TV runner at the time and it meant a lot that ‘the talent’ took time to chat with me.

OnlyFrench · 16/01/2025 21:47

@SnakesandKnives I saw Brian in Camberley Sainsbury's! He'd just collected a trolley even though it was closing in five minutes

Because some of them are interesting and have been involved with really intriguing things. I had two wonderful work meals with Reece Shearsmith; absolutely fascinating man, and so so funny. Total gentleman. Chatted a lot about folklore and horror stuff.

OnlyFrench · 16/01/2025 21:50

DH dealt with the Stones but particularly Mick in a work situation. Said Mick was fun and very self effacing and amused when younger staff had no idea who he was.

Girasole02 · 15/01/2025 20:46

Fred Flintoff. Unassuming, no side you him at all. Very tall.

For a minute there, I thought ‘how could you meet a cartoon character?’ I was thinking of Fred Flintstone 🤭🤣

I was just thinking "Brian May is like the Keanu Reeves of pop , everyones Mr Nice Guy " but you have tipped the balance that he was chancing his arm going in 5 minutes before closing , not just picking up a Hovis White Sliced but a trolley ...........
I bet that Anita Dobson forced him. Go on Brian, they won;t chuck you out
