Which celebs have you met in daily life?

I just met actor Irene Marot, who played Ron Dixon’s wife DD in Brookside, when she asked me for directions on a London street corner. Happy to report that she is absolutely delightful IRL. (I told her she looked familiar and she seemed surprised and chuffed that I had recognised her.)

So, which “celebrities” (A-list or otherwise) have you met by chance in a “civilian” or daily life context. And what were they like?

That does not surprise me one bit!

Really? It does me, I love him on the radio

Jellykat · 16/01/2025 18:15

Rhod Gilbert, Jerome Flynn - nice and very twinkly eyed! Grin

Charlotte Ritchie (actress) - really lovely and quietly spoken

Griff Rhys Jones - quite a grump, but i made him laugh towards the end of our conversation.

TreacleTarcleSparkle · 16/01/2025 18:16

Through my work

Leslie Ash - always rude and cold and unpleasant.. came across as a mean old lady from a story book

Dame Maggie Smith- shy , aloof, no pretences, perfect manners

Joan Collins- exactly how you’d expect her to be not overly nice but not at all
mean either .. a complete diva but gets away with it as she’s a national treasure and almost like a parody of herself (beautiful legs and skin)

Jean Marsh - knew her well for years and had no idea that she had been an actress! The kindest most unassuming warm self deprecating lady i’ve ever known

Richard E Grant - met many times and he goes out of his way to just be magical and warm .. makes you feel like the only person in the room.. very complimentary and most smiliest man I’ve ever met

The Mcgann brothers - polite but very straight to the point, No nonsense and dry.

Martine McCutcheon - very sweet but a tiny bit affected imo

Lady Frost - had had lots of fizz so couldn’t understand her .. very la de dah and ‘posh eccentric’

Lady Lucan - fascinating lady .. otherworldly almost

Rod stewart- know him well .. very sweet and old school .. calls me ‘dear’ or ‘darling’ ., only negative is he isn’t generous in the slightest

Penny Lancaster- again know her well .. comes across as if she’s more the ‘celeb’ than rod .. has a lovely and impressive presence because of her height and confident walk and great smile. Very princessy though like doesn’t understand first world problems even though she likes to come across as being relatable

Russel Brand- always winking and laughing when i’ve been with him .. flirty , cheeky, funny , handsome and very likeable

Richard Madely - very ‘numbly’ like clumsy but it makes him likeable , very sweet and wonderful manners .. very slim, tall and handsome in RL and looks decades younger

Katie Price - no comment

lots of Wags and all the TOWIE lot - mostly vacuous , vain, take themselves seriously but harmless enough

Lokiswife · 16/01/2025 18:16

Jim Lee from Slade, I actually went to school with his son!

DisabledDemon · 16/01/2025 18:23

Richard Briars - we asked him for directions - he was lovely.

Jeremy someone - awful and arrogant

Could be one of many tbh

I bumped into the top gear one and the other two once and they were incredibly arrogant.

Jeremys are never nice. Fact.

Creatingnothingfromnothing · 16/01/2025 18:27

Met Jimi Hendrix in Manchester when I was about 15 - soft spoken sweet man. Also met Marc Bolan before he was too famous - like an elf with tiny feet.

CollaterlieSistersSister · 16/01/2025 18:28

@TreacleTarcleSparkle I’m surprised about Penny Lancaster. I don’t know her, but her PR do a sound job at making her seem down to earth - especially with the special constable role.

Tonkie18 · 16/01/2025 18:31

Michelle Keegan in Tesco. The Ryan lad from
corrie at my sunbed. Ronaldo stepped on my daughter’s foot at the Traff and didn’t say sorry! He also cut me up at the roundabout near me. Paddy McGuinness and his wife at the Traff. Lorraine (mum was on her show). Trisha (mum was on her show). Daman albarn was checking in at the same hotel as me. Lynda Bellingham was having dinner next to me. A load of has beens from big brother live near me and go to my sons nursery. Jason manford (creep) chatted me up and tried to take me to lunch in John Lewis. Patricia Lumley and Hugh Grant were part of one of my dad’s ventures and would be at these rubbish parties I had to go to. Ricky Hatton played snooker with my dad as my dad used to box too. David Dickinson when I worked in Tkmaxx looking really orange.

I need to move to a better area 🤣

Stuffedasasausage · 16/01/2025 18:37

Julie Walters and Victoria Wood dressed in full Acorn Antiques get up. They were both amazing. I was so excited!

NattyFish · 16/01/2025 18:56

David Baddiel - arrogant
Cillian Murphy - pleasant but a bit aloof
Coleen Ramsey (Aaron Ramsey's wife) - absolute gem of a woman. Very lovely, down to earth, funny and beautiful

Shelley108 · 16/01/2025 19:01

Saw Jim Bowen on a ferry to the Isle of Wight my partner constantly saying Bullseye slogans and cracking me up 🤣
Saw Christopher Biggins walking through town and Darren Day shopping in Boots.
I served Zoe Burkett in WH Smith’s once with The Stage newspaper but didn’t realise until she left and my co-worker pointed it out, and Mark Rhodes was waiting outside, I was gutted cos I fancied him rotten 🤣
Beverley Knight went to my school. She had thick glasses that’s all I remember 🤣
Caitlin Moran known as Catherine then, went to my Primary school and I sat next to her on the coach for swimming she had hair that touched her bum. Her family used to travel to school in a VW Camper! Unusual in those days but must’ve been fun! I sent her a lovely msg on Facebook a few yrs ago after I’d seen her on This Morning but she ignored me 😏not sure why, I’m always happy for people’s success x
Benjamin Zephaniah came to our school to recite some poetry in a lesson - RE I think it was.
Can’t say I’ve actually met a celebrity properly though 😏

Shelley108 · 16/01/2025 19:03

Oh and Dave Hill numerous times, his daughter Jade was in my year at school and I’ve seen him loads in Wolverhampton, even saw him when I went to a show at the theatre 🤭 can’t remember which one might’ve been the bodyguard

ShinyPebble32 · 16/01/2025 19:13

Jay Kay from Jamiroquai, when I was early 20’s and had a job looking after tropical plants at various posh premises - watering and dusting palm trees etc. It was in the Harrods lounge at an airport, and the staff tried to usher me out of the way all flustered as ‘a celebrity is coming through’ - but he was super friendly and gave me a very cheeky wink! I think I probably could have ended up dusting his palm tree if I’d played my cards right 🤣
Also used to work at a house next door to Keith Flint (may he RIP). I often used to see him out running with his PT and got the odd cheeky wink from him too.
My DH met Amanda Holden through a charity set up for a friend he lost - he said she had a very manly handshake that crushed his fingers in a vice like grip, he was worried some of them might be broken 🤣

Had to do a thing for work with Omid Djalili the comedian... so spent a day or two with him filming some promo. Very much 'my way or the highway' kind of guy, very critical of how we edited the promo video. Bit of a diva.

Also bumped (literally) into Hugh Jackman. Super awkward moment!

I’m really sad to read this about Omid Djalili. I’ve always thought him to be a nice, clever guy.

VK456 · 16/01/2025 19:55

Vanessa Feltz and Margot Robbie.
Both seemed up themselves but, to be fair, MR was very young and may have changed. Definitely can’t apply that reasoning to VF…

MeMyseIfAndI · 16/01/2025 19:57

The Five Star brothers back in the day (they would have been mid-twenties) - both lovely.

Chico, at the height of his fame - had dinner with him and his close group of friends for one of their birthdays, I was dating one of the friends at the time - he was lovely and very handsome (Chico, that is - not so much the guy I dated).

Betty Boo a couple of times - just delightful. And so pretty. Swoon.

Nathan Moore from Brother Beyond, at one of those 80s revival festivals - he was SOOOOO amazingly lovely with my then seven year old pop-loving daughter.

Pat Sharpe at the same event - also absolutely charming and fun (house).

Chesney Hawkes - so nice too.

Jeremy Corbyn - lovely, kind, sweet with my kids.

Quite of lot of 80s pop people, and 90s DJs - pretty much everyone has been really nice.

Dorisbonson · 16/01/2025 20:02

Boris Johnson - he was munching a pork pie and vaguely polite. Much smaller than I thought.

Prince Andrew - Arrogant buffoon, wasn't interested in anyone there or what they said, he also thought he was hilarious (he wasn't).

Liz Truss - Exactly how you might think she is. Hectoring and arrogant.

Dorisbonson · 16/01/2025 20:04

Colin Firth. Very pleasant and polite.

VerbenaGirl · 16/01/2025 20:08

Kim Wilde - very gracious and incredibly beautiful.
Floella Benjamin - a bit bonkers.
Michel Roux - very patient with my slightly drunken ramblings.

** I’m surprised about Penny Lancaster. I don’t know her, but her PR do a sound job at making her seem down to earth - especially with the special constable role.

Known her for years pre Rod and since Rod to this day

She’s very down to earth in lots of ways and doesn’t show off and ram her life down others throats .. like it took her many years to go on social media and she could have easily shown off in a way to the nasty bullies who made her life hell .. she could’ve done the ‘look at me now’ thing but never has ! In fact she’s not bitter about them and doesn’t hold grudges .. almost like a child like innocence to her in lots of ways .. like an endearing naivety but that loveliness also can swing the other way and it’s no fault of hers it’s just her ‘way’

For example the lovely home she grew up in .. nicer than your average family home .. very nice and now she will say when visiting ‘wow I can’t believe I grew up in such a tiny house !’ (it’s not tiny!)
She’ll not understand why her friends from school days and still tight knit friends to this day.. how some of them can’t just ‘get up and go’ when it comes to ‘nipping to Portofino
She then will be totally baffled and confused as to why a small handful of her wonderful girlfriends don’t invite her to theirs .. and it’s not because they’re ‘ashamed’ of their normal average homes NOR would she judge their homes but the homes are worlds apart and she almost doesn’t know how to read the room … like it’s a ‘given’ that all the ladies have wealthy DHs doing their ‘City jobs’ and she doesn’t understand that while some of her friends look like they have idyllic lives they still have to budget , pay huge mortgages, come up with big sums when their horses are sick .. it’s like that’s ’their first works problems’ and her ‘first works problems’ are on different levels and she just doesn’t ‘get’ why on arriving to her buddy’s house there’s no cloakroom to take your coat and purse to .. if their range rover needs work done to it she doesn’t understand ‘why they just don’t scrap it and but a brand new shiny one’

If she invites you to lunch it’s in a lovely part of a top london hotel and the bill will be split and for fear of ‘embarrassment’ friends will politely make up white lies (Penny could pay the whole bill but a)friends wouldn’t DREAM of not paying their equal slice of the bill and b) It wouldn’t ever cross Pennys mind to ever foot the bill
and again this is not be wise she’s mean or anything ‘negative’ whatsoever she genuinely just doesn’t ’get it’ ..

workshy46 · 16/01/2025 20:28

Coleen Rooney and all the wives at the world cup. She was incredibly nice.. so friendly and so so nice to all the kids chatting and taking pictures. I was really impressed with her as she was young enough herself at the time
