Which celebs have you met in daily life?

I just met actor Irene Marot, who played Ron Dixon’s wife DD in Brookside, when she asked me for directions on a London street corner. Happy to report that she is absolutely delightful IRL. (I told her she looked familiar and she seemed surprised and chuffed that I had recognised her.)

So, which “celebrities” (A-list or otherwise) have you met by chance in a “civilian” or daily life context. And what were they like?

For a minute there, I thought ‘how could you meet a cartoon character?’ I was thinking of Fred Flintstone 🤭🤣

My DS met Barney the Dinosaur when he was 2.6yo and won't believe for a second that he wasn't real Grin

Interesting. Jermaine Defoe was physically aggressive to me when I met him. My job was to give him a tour of somewhere and he was nasty about it. Really creeped me out

Ooh this is interesting. I met him around 16 years ago though & I was only 19/20

PrincessHoneysuckle · 16/01/2025 22:23

Peter Barlow from Corrie

Jimmy Carr sitting having dinner alone beside us in a restaurant. Incredibly unpleasant + hostile man - very rude towards staff. Despite it being quite a fancy restaurant he had a takeaway Starbucks coffee with him and sipped on it throughout his meal. Money can’t buy class!

I once served Jimmy Carr in you guessed it… Starbucks!! 😂🙈 he clearly hasn’t changed (talking 2008/2009 here). I had seen his gig the night before, miserable so and so 😂

YourAzureEagle · 16/01/2025 22:40

Mick Fleetwood, many times, great chap. Pete Doherty, sold him a pair of silver candelabras, again, really nice bloke. Madonna (when married to Guy Ritchie, did some work for them), very normal.

Oops wrong quote, sorry 🙈

In 2006 me and my mum went to New York, after breakfast we went back to our room and got the hotel lift and Jo Frost aka Supernanny walked in! Our faces must have been a picture, she gave us scary vibes and looked so serious. I feel ashamed I used to think her programmes were good, telling all those ‘naughty’ kids off 🙈

Beaverbridge · 16/01/2025 22:54

Billy Connolly in the lift at my work. Said hello.
Sarah Jessica Parker outside Blooming dales NYC. Waved to us.
Piers Morgan outside Fox studios NYC.
Bob Geldof at Newcastle train station, smiled at us. Realised who it was later!.

Samandytimlucypeterolivia · 16/01/2025 23:07

I also met Matt Willis, years ago, he was from down the road practically, the first time we saw him, crossing the road, there’s me and 3 of my mates at 15 having a chat with him in the middle of the crossing. He was very friendly, and obviously now the glow up, he is absolutely hot 🔥

tobee · 16/01/2025 23:16

Quite a lot of people in various ways at different stages of my life.

Had to squeeze past Jimmy Savile to go to the lol at a "do" once. He looked down my cleavage (I was about 22) and said something but I managed to block out hearing what he said. Plenty of rumours about him flying about of course. He was wearing white tie and his knighthood sash or whatever it is.

Still remember feeling creeped out about it 30 odd years later.

Because some of them are interesting and have been involved with really intriguing things. I had two wonderful work meals with Reece Shearsmith; absolutely fascinating man, and so so funny. Total gentleman. Chatted a lot about folklore and horror stuff.

I would have absolutely loved this, I adore Reece Shearsmith, folklore and horror!

You lucky thing, he was gorgeous!

most people I've met have been in situations where meeting them wasn't that unlikely.

but in normal day to day life, we had Tom Daley as a customer in our shop, and he was SO friendly and patient with everyone wanting selfies with him. (I did have to ask another staff member who he was, because he looked familiar but I couldn't place him, as I don't follow sports)

also, met Anne Heggerty from The Chase twice during a day out at the Eden Project. she was really friendly and charming. definitely not even slightly frostyknickers. we had a couple of lovely chats with her. once in the Biomes, and once walking back to the car park. we asked about her day and had she enjoyed herself. which she had. it was her first visit. genuinely came across as very warm and funny.

I sat next to Joan collins, years ago, I was only about 12 or 14, at some posh dinner event to launch a marina in essex i think...she had just made those awful soft porn films so other diners gave her dirty looks....she was glamorous, polite and friendly
Once encountered a lot of actors off Coronation st at manchester airport, they gate crashed the first class lounge and robbed lots of booze off the trolleys etc before being asked to leave !!

Alan Rickman, yonks ago. Lovely man, really friendly.

Reece Shearsmith - twice at work events. Absolutely lovely man, spent a long time chatting both times.

Jon Boden of Bellowhead. Really interesting bloke.

Jeremy Corbyn, three times. Such a nice man.

David Wenham - Faramir from LotR. I nearly cried being the geek I am. He was hilarious!

Jeremy Corbyn gives a great hug, and smells good. not in a cologne way. just soapy and fresh.

eta. I'd love to meet Reece Shearsmith. I love League of Gentlemen and related things, and he was brilliant as Shakespeare and Furfur in Good Omens

I served Roy Walker at work, seemed nice and happy to be recognised.
I also bumped into Mark Owen In Leister Square back in the nineties, I can't tell you what he was like because I lost the ability to talk on sight (I was a teenager and head over heels in love with him)

I've met Damon Albarn a couple of times before gigs, and have never once managed to form a coherent word. I just shook his had and grinned insanely at him.
on the other hand, had a lovely chat with Alex James outside the Astoria. he's absolutely charming and friendly. lovely bloke.

Passed Anna Friel in the street. DH completely fangirled and thanked her for being utterly wonderful. Rhys Ifans was behind catching her up and shot him a dirty look. 😂

I used to go clubbing with Dean Gaffney. 😂😂😂

Dean Gaffney once tried it on with my cousin in a nightclub. she told him "I'd rather fuck Wellard" apparently he was being really slimy, and she's someone that is VERY blunt

Yes!! Jeremy Corbyn had to be the sweetest out of the lot. I offered him a handshake and he hugged me, then reminded me I had a hood as I was getting drenched in the rain.

Reece Shearsmith is really nice. He comes across as a bit cagey sometimes I think, and people have him pegged as a grump, but it couldn't have been the furthest from the truth in my experience. Quite shy actually. Showed me a picture of his Krampus decorations. 🤣 LoG is genius, as is Psychoville and Inside No. 9. Clever writers!

MajorCarolDanvers · 17/01/2025 00:18

over the years through work I’m sure I’ve forgotten some

Donnie Munro
Dwayne Fields
Fatima Whitbread
Tony & Cherie Blair
John Prescott
Mo Mowlam
Jean Kennedy Smith (sister of JFK)
Boris Johnston
Prince Philip
Prince Edward

Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsey - expected JO to be lovely and GR to be a rude arsehole but it was the other way round.

Charlotte Hawkins from Good Morning Britain is really vile and actually quite vicious.

I always think Gordon Ramsey comes across very well. yes, he shouts and swears, but I always get the impression he genuinely wants the places and people he's helping to do well. it feels like he cares about them. and he's always so polite to the waiting staff, because he clearly appreciates the issues are back of house, and beyond their control. they're just doing their best.

SweetBabyCheesus · 17/01/2025 00:25

Dh had Jimmy Carr in the taxi once, taking him to our local theatre where he was performing. They chatted for the whole journey about music that dh had on in the car, and he said he was a sweetheart. Got a cracking selfie as well 😃

shoehelp · 17/01/2025 00:30

Ha I've met both Vernon Kaye and Chris Moyles lots of times and had the absolute opposite experience to PPs- Vernon Kaye absolutely lovely, polite, chatty and friendly. Chris Moyles, couldn't have been more of an arrogant twat. DH worked at Radio 1 for years.
