Which celebs have you met in daily life?

I just met actor Irene Marot, who played Ron Dixon’s wife DD in Brookside, when she asked me for directions on a London street corner. Happy to report that she is absolutely delightful IRL. (I told her she looked familiar and she seemed surprised and chuffed that I had recognised her.)

So, which “celebrities” (A-list or otherwise) have you met by chance in a “civilian” or daily life context. And what were they like?

Agree but the same way you don’t know what’s going on in someone’s life you don’t know what happens behind closed doors. Plenty of people are smiling and friendly but behave like complete arseholes to other people.

I agree. Others have also said how uncomfortable he made them feel. I believe all of them

Johnny Vegas- very nice and funny.

Geoffrey Hughes who played Eddie Yeats in Coronation St amongst other roles- very nice man.

DH met Sir Alex Ferguson and asked for an autograph- very pleasant and happy to oblige.

Had to do a thing for work with Omid Djalili the comedian... so spent a day or two with him filming some promo. Very much 'my way or the highway' kind of guy, very critical of how we edited the promo video. Bit of a diva.

Also bumped (literally) into Hugh Jackman. Super awkward moment!

I used to occasionally come into contact with OD's father in law through work, he was a humourless, arrogant a...hole, universally despised by his staff. I bet they clash!

The previous Archbishop of York, John Sentamu. He was so pleasant and so very kind to me. He is humble and unassuming, a truly lovely man.

Friend used to work for Peter Kay in a tradesman type of role. Bit of a do you know who I am individual. Also attended a family wedding but demanded that no one let on to him unless close family. Heard similar stories about him when his kids were taken to cub and scout gatherings.
Ex partner was not in to football but sat next to Vincent Kompany on a plane to Germany. Didn’t have a clue, was shocked by how big VKs thighs were 😂 and also how twitchy about flying he was. Got told a few times to turn off his mobile phone by the air hostesses. As they queued to get off the plane a few people said didn’t you recognise the guy next to you !
Saw Rio Ferdinand with his child at Tatton Park years ago. Keeping himself to
himself in a quiet bit of the play area. Scowled a bit at me when I followed DS over. Didn’t have a clue it was him but sensed he thought I was going to mither him. Again I wouldn’t have known if a friend hadn’t commented.
A friend once saw Evan Davies (dragons den) at a popular gay club.

I have posted to say about Peter Kay! Whenever I tell anyone he was awful they always go "No he can't be! He's so lovely and down to earth!" so assumed I had just met him on an off day. But glad you have said this.

Yep he was very "don't you know who I am". Entitled and arrogant.

Geoffrey Hughes was a legend!!!!

A friend was on the same train as Sue Perkins around 6 years ago. She was also apparently one of the 'do you know who I am?' brigade

Dappy777 · 16/01/2025 14:18

I knew someone who drank in the pub run by the lead singer of The Prodigy. She said he was lovely - funny, kind and self-mocking. He had a charity jar, and anyone who made a joke about him being a “twisted fire starter” when he put a log in the burner had to cough up some change. So sad what happened to him.😔

On honeymoon in Cornu we sat next to a rough looking guy in a leather jacket and his daughter in a taverna. There was football on the tv and DH had to explain the offside law to him, he was very chatty and pleasant. We had no idea who he was until he was walking past us by the pool at our hotel. Stopped for a long chat, we still had no idea until somebody nearbye said that’s Topol. He was there filming a James Bond movie. A few nights later in the same taverna guess who he introduced us to.

Disappointed to hear that ☹️.

Apparently she had a reputation for being rude. My SiL grew up near her and she was well known locally for being a nasty woman.

Reminds me of this infamous tweet

Manchesterbythesea · 16/01/2025 15:19

I met Boyzone in Dublin airport in 1995. As a teenager this was fairly epic! They were lovely, posing for photos and signing autographs.

BearSoFair · 16/01/2025 15:34

I sold printer ink to Matt Smith a few years after Doctor Who. Nice to see that even celebs can't get their printers to behave when they're in a hurry, he wasn't even convinced the ink needed changing but was getting desperate. "Two pages and I've been looking at it for two hours!" Grin

MoonWoman69 · 16/01/2025 15:56

Oh and not mine, but my mums, who is no longer with us.
Back in the 70s, Jane Eyre was serialised on TV, with Michael Jayston as Mr Rochester. My mum had a proper crush on him and working as a professional hand knitter at the time, knit him a jumper and sent it to his agent. She didn't expect to hear anything more.
We'd just got home after she picked me up from primary school when the phone rang.
It was him, ringing to thank my mum for the jumper, that he absolutely loved it and would definitely be wearing it, as it was just his style! They chatted for a good twenty minutes, he even asked to speak to me and asked me if I was proud that I had a clever mummy!
He was absolutely lovely. She floated on air for a good few months after that call. And he sent us both a signed photograph from when he was in Quiller. (I think it was a detective series).

Grannyinnwaiting · 16/01/2025 16:01

Rick Parfitt used to drink in my local - helped my pals and I with a boat in the marina once. Very down to earth

Grannyinnwaiting · 16/01/2025 16:03

Linda Robson gave me a hug at Heathrow once when I was going through a stressful situation. Didn't say a word just a little hug - classy!

Notmoanaagain · 16/01/2025 16:18

My Dad worked at STV, Glen Michael was around when we used to have the children's Xmas party in the big studio. Can't remember much though. Please tell me he's lovely, my heart couldn't bear it if he turned out to be horrible.

He was lovely. Really nice to us annoying children

HawkinsTigers · 15/01/2025 21:36

Was he or did he hypnotise you so that you thought that? 😉

DH is desperate to go and see him but I’m too scared to be in a room with him. DB not DH.

You must go, he's brilliant! I've seen him a couple of times and going again in May. Absolutely mesmerising but not scary at all

Mozzarellaballs · 16/01/2025 17:11

@Notmoanaagain what did Holly do?? I get so intrigued with how she is so 'happy/fake' and then awful in real life

StormingNorman · 16/01/2025 17:14

Sat next to Tara Palmer-Tompkinson at the hairdressers. She was a lot of fun but the super loud look at me show was an endurance challenge. They managed to rustle up about four apprentices whose only job was to provide an audience.

Quite a few of the royal family including Prince William were at a party that I was waitressing at when I was younger.
