If you could only holiday in one country for the rest of your life, where would you choose?

I would choose Japan because I have Japanese ancestry and I like connecting with my roots. And from Hokkaido to Okinawa and in between, it’s so varied. If I wasn’t Japanese I’m not sure where I would choose 🤔 Interested in other people’s choices!

I’m get palpitations just thinking of only ever going on holiday in one other country for the rest of my life. I’ve been to 61 countries so far and what to get to 100 before I die.

Are there really 100 countries that would make an amazing holiday? I've only been to about 20-25 (most of them multiple times), and I can easily think of another 15-20 I'd like to visit. But I don't think there would be 100 separate countries that I would prefer to exploring further in some of the countires I've already been to.

Turkey. Been going for years but there is still so much I have not seen. Love the scenery, food and the culture.

France! No, Spain... or maybe Italy. Or Greece. Or Germany....

Sorry, can't choose!

Givemethreerings · 14/01/2025 16:32

Costa Rica

Another vote for Greece, 2nd choice Italy. Sun, Culture, Friendly people and Delicious food! Still waiting to win the lottery, to buy a nice property around Chania.

Money no object? Definitely USA, no contest whatsoever. Love it so much, it's just expensive to travel there.

Europe? Can't decide between Germany and Poland, love them both.

Definitely none of the Southern countries (Italy excluded) and I'd rather not holiday ever again than go to France, hate absolutely everything about it.

Don’t get me wrong I have my explore further list that I’ve been to countless times and will continue to. I also want to visit 39 more countries. I haven’t been to Asia or Africa very much and would love to see a lot more of that part of the world.

France or Japan for me. Love them both. France is a whole lot easier to get to though so that would probably be my choice.

laesosalt · 14/01/2025 16:40

Costa Rica or Portugal

SophieTheGuineaPig · 14/01/2025 16:53

A Mediterranean country, either France or Italy. I love the sea, the mountains, plenty of city break places, lovely cuisine, close to where I live - they tick all the boxes for me really.

UK

But if we’re allowed a foreign destination as well, then probably either Switzerland or Australia (the first being expensive for Europe, but much easier to get to than the other side of the world)

Greek Islands 10000000% Best food scenery and people.

BearSoFair · 14/01/2025 17:37

Denmark. Clean, safe, friendly, beautiful, not too hot!

Adamante · 14/01/2025 17:37

US. All climates, terrains etc on the one land mass. I love it there.

Luminousalumnus · 14/01/2025 17:44

UK, I like travelling many times in a year, for short breaks so wouldn't want to keep giving time to flying.

What don’t you like about France?

Hertsmum78 · 14/01/2025 17:51

If flight times and jet lag weren’t an issue, the USA. Given that they are, Greece and its islands without a shadow of a doubt!
