Looking for inspiration! We don't normally go on holiday but I really fancy it this year.
Considering possibly Toronto but happy to hear about anywhere
How long do you go for and why have you decided to go there?

We're doing a 2 week cruise to northern Europe including Germany, Estonia, Finland and Denmark.

This sounds great @Cheshire71 , who is that with? I've never been on a cruise but those are all places I would travel to.

SchoolDilemma17 · 11/01/2025 21:14

Vietnam in March. I've been planning it for a couple of years so am very excited.

We'll see how £££ it ends up being. It is often touted as being good value so fingers crossed.

If there is any budget left I'd like to do something in August to include our adult DC. It is my 60th birthday in August and August is also when both DH and DC can usually get time off. Not the best time of year unfortunately.

Depending on budget and time available we may go to see bears in Romania or Finland, East Coast Canada as BIL lives there and it would be good to get the cousins together, or possibly Sintra and Lisbon if short on time. Another option would be Dalyan in Turkey but it may be just too hot.

Vietnam too! Hope you have a great trip

We haven’t been abroad for a few years so excited to have booked 2 trips for this year. We’re going to Montenegro in April and Rhodes in the summer. I’m a bit worried about Rhodes in August due to fires but it’s booked now. we’ve booked a really lovely hotel and the kids are super excited so fingers crossed it’ll all be ok.

I did Rhodes last Aug, LOVED it 🙂 beautiful island.

InStarbucksRehab · 11/01/2025 21:38

We're doing a 2 week cruise to northern Europe including Germany, Estonia, Finland and Denmark.

We are also doing a cruise to these ports in July. Are you going with Princess Cruise Lines @Cheshire71 ?

Our other plans for this year include a child free week in New Orleans for Mardi Gras next month, a few days in Spain or Portugal at Easter time to give the kids a break before GCSEs and A levels, another kid free break in Malta in October and either Australia or a trip to visit family in Ottawa at Christmas. I quite like thinking about and booking holidays when I can :-).

CoralOP · 11/01/2025 22:23

Great thread, lovely to see so many people going away to amazing places.

I live for holidays and travelling but lately I feel like I get the odd eye roll and head shake in disbelief at going on multiple holidays and get reminded about the cost of living crisis, it's really starting to make me reluctant to mention my holidays so I'm not coming across as 'bragging'. We usually go 3, sometimes 4 times a year, mostly Europe with the odd long haul.

Does anyone else get this? I am getting it from certain friends and in particular a family member ( who doesn't really like going on holiday but can afford it if they want).

We budget and plan hard for holidays, it's pretty much where most of our spare money goes. It's nice to see people talking about and getting excited for their travels. Xx

Naples in 2 weeks.

Mrscharlieeeee · 11/01/2025 18:08

Orlando in October for 2 weeks. Doing all the Disney and Universal parks as we're all theme park enthusiasts. DC will be 11 and 8 when we go.

Will go to my parents caravan on the East Yorkshire coast in the summer for a few days and probably to our family cottage on the Northumberland coast in spring.

Best time to go to Orlando! Warm but not too hot and parks aren't so busy so no massive queues! Enjoy! Xx

Gongpostal · 11/01/2025 22:54

Turkey late April (never been before) hoping to do a girls short cruise in June, definitely a few UK weekend breaks with friends and looking for somewhere hot for a week in September with husband any suggestions?

Meandhimtogether · 11/01/2025 23:06

Tenerife in march.
Weekend breaks in the UK.
At the moment it's Blackpool, Bath and the lake District.
Trying to see more of the UK now retired.

ViciousCurrentBun · 11/01/2025 23:17

Two weeks in the Peak District
Three month road trip round the South West and Wales.
Two maybe three months round France and Spain.

We have retired and DS is lookimg after the house, will be returning for a few weeks between trips. The two week one is the test run as very close to home, just got to buy a motorhome.

Citygirlrurallife · 11/01/2025 23:47

I REALLY want a proper long haul
adventure somewhere new but we’re paying off a renovation, saving to go to Japan in 2026 and DH might not have a job come the summer so we’re so far just planning (but not committed to) a few smaller trips: DH and I in Belgium for 3 nights in March, DD and I getting the train to Florence for 3 nights in April, DH and DS driving to Germany straight after exams for a few nights

we’re Hoping to do a home exchange to Bordeaux with a family who house sat for us last year

Cheshire71 · 12/01/2025 06:47

@RachelCarew it's with P&O. We love cruises because of being able to see different countries with ease.

Kos in May, never been before so looking forward to it. Norfolk in the summer.

Shampoointhetoilet · 12/01/2025 08:40

@CoralOP

Definitely agree. We are retired now and are making the most of the time to travel. Our big family holiday now needs to take account of the DGCs school holidays, but otherwise we are free agents.

The recent £18k holiday thread attracted some predictably nasty comments and it's lovely to read this thread which is - so far - judgement free.

Have an amazing 2025 everyone.

I'm quite lucky that most of my work colleagues like travel too although I'm probably the most different ie we don't do cruises or package hols but we all like discussing holiday plans, however they look. It keeps us going!
Actually my close friends are the same...currently one is in Australia and one just back from India!
