Just wondering what people have noticed has gone up the most? for me it's kitchen roll. It seems to have gone up so much.

Definitely fish!! And also a lot of meat items. Chicken thighs are now more expensive per kilo than breast!

MissSueFlay · 08/01/2025 17:18

Butter is the thing I've noticed most - we used to get Lurpak, then it got so expensive they lopped 50g off the pack size. We just get own brand now but still nearly £2 per pack!
I bet the farmers aren't seeing much of that increase...

MidnightPatrol · 08/01/2025 17:19

Olive oil!

hedgehogsinthehedgerow · 08/01/2025 17:37

Chypre that's impressive you kept the receipts but yes that's so depressing.

Yes chicken breast has gone up so much. And fish and butter and olive oil. People can't eat as well. Ready meals often seem like better value than cooking from scratch for things like chicken I think.

Orange juice! Lidl 1l bottles were 95p in 2020, now they are about £1.80.

JRorBobby · 08/01/2025 18:45

Kerrygold butter and Bunalun pasta sauces (my kids love it for pasta) - I think it's doubled in price for a jar over two years. I recently got a Lidl jar and they didn't notice the difference.

OurDreamLife · 08/01/2025 18:48

I’m all honesty I have stopped checking as it just made me miserable when the prices first started rising.

ALDIs kitchen roll isn’t more than £1.20. There’s no need to buy the branded rolls imo.

Jbck · 08/01/2025 18:50

President lightly salted butter(indulgent I know) was £2.75 just before Christmas which was ridiculous and I had started to really grudge, went to buy yesterday £3.20!

BobnLen · 08/01/2025 18:53

Oatibix is about £4 now, I'm sure I used to get 2 for £4 not so long ago, I am intolerant to a lot of wheat so can't have the cheaper Weetabix

WhatWillYouHaveTallulah · 08/01/2025 19:03

Sounds like we're all going to be eating a lot of sourdough bread.
I read the prices would be going up this year, I wonder how much more they will go up in the next 11 months?
I too have tried not to take notice and moan about the price increases.
Everything I can think of has gone up, and I can't think what any of us can do about it.
I already put half olive oil and half vegetable oil in a recipe, in fact so many recipes I look at now and have to sub some ingredients.
I have bought more store brands and cut back on a lot of things that we used to buy.
We definitely don't eat the way we used to.

Molecule · 08/01/2025 19:05

Chappie dog food (the only one that doesn’t upset my little thug’s delicate tummy). Use to be (pre covid) £14 for a tray of 24 at Asda, now the cheapest place is Home Bargains where it’s £26. I’m sure it’s only the sweepings up off the abattoir floor combined with cheap grain so where they get such a huge increase I do not know.

DXC9versq · 08/01/2025 19:08

Cucumbers! I remember when they were 40p at Tesco and 60p at Co-op so I used to shop for them at Tesco as money was really tight. This was in about 2015. They are now 89p in Tesco and 80p in Co-op.

username299 · 08/01/2025 19:10

It's got to be olive oil. I used to buy a litre for £2.50 and now it's £8.50. Soda crystals have gone up from £1 to £2.35. Deodorant and toothpaste are ridiculous. My roll on used to be £1 and is now nearly £3.

Itdjgsurchg · 08/01/2025 19:10

Chocolate- chocolate bars and hot chocolate. Every week there’s a big jump in prices.
Meat - stewing steak used to be a cheap meal but has shot up in price from this time last year.
Olive oil

I've spotted this. I always thought £2 was a lot anyway. These days the cheapest I've seen it recently was 'on offer's at £3.50.
I generally don't buy it at all now, but it's one of those things that makes me feel a bit better if I'm under the weather and can't really face much else.

destiel00 · 08/01/2025 19:16

That's the issue...
Even aldi and lidl have doubled in price
I'm spending double what I did in 2020 and not buying anything different
Madness
CEOs and shareholders of these companies are getting richer and richer

ImWearingPantaloons · 08/01/2025 19:17

I like the high juice squash at Sainsbury's, on my last visit they seemed to have some of their older stock at £1.90, and newer stock at an eye watering £3.15.

Anchor did this too, took 50g off a 250g pack! Disgusting

Echobelly · 08/01/2025 19:20

Eggs
Fresh orange juice (three quid for a big carton in Tesco!)

Some brands like innocent only give you 900ml now not the full litre which enrages me

Did you find a good alternative to kerrygold?

I go Ireland several times a year and over there they sell it in 454g blocks - it is wonderful

stanleypops66 · 08/01/2025 19:22

Real butter like Dromara. Nearly £5 for a big block.
