Just wondering what people have noticed has gone up the most? for me it's kitchen roll. It seems to have gone up so much.

The dairy collective suckies, kids yogurts, used to be 70p on offer for 50/60p and now are 0.95-£1.10 on offer for 75-85p.
Salmon fillets for sure, they're extortionate now even in cheaper shops and quality and taste not great.

It's because everyone is migrating to it from Lurpak!

When all butter is expensive I just think fuck it and go for the Guernsey salted butter, £3.25 or thereabouts and tastes wildly better than lurpack which is similar price point

You can get supermarket-brand British butter for a lot less. I never understood they so many people buy Danish butter (Lurpak) anyway, instead of supporting our own farmers. Not to mention that Denmark is notorious for factory farming.

MrsKarlUrban · 08/01/2025 22:04

Can't see it previously mentioned but Coffee!!! Some brands for a small amount are £8.10 etc. I opted for Asda gold for £2.25

GeorgeA12 · 08/01/2025 22:10

Bovril....it's nearly £5 for a small jar, and the Bistro browning for gravy, tiny little box now!

Its dearer than Lurpak, always has been so I doubt it 😂

Tescos Finest Jalapeno and vintage cheddar loaf has doubled in a year, was my treat with the butter 😢

MoonlightMemories · 08/01/2025 22:18

i haven't really seen it mentioned but products like shampoo too - in the past few years my usual one was 900ml for like £4, then it went down to 800ml, then 680ml and costs £3.70, sometimes on offer at £3 and now also uses cheaper ingredients. My usual conditioner went from 500ml to 400ml at £4 and then a huge drop to only 275ml but for £2.

The prices of things like butter, milk and chicken are getting really quite extortionate and they're not gradual rises (my usual salted butter recently went up from £2.85 to £3.45 in the space of a day, my whole chicken £4 to £5.25 and I just checked, the extra large, the size up from it is currently on offer for less at £5.20!).

Forgive me if I’m being thick but isn’t £5 a good price for an entire chicken? Chicken breasts cost more than that where I live (but I don’t buy chicken unless I forget that I don’t like it, so not sure why I care)

Buy your kitchen roll from Home Bargains 👍

MoonlightMemories · 08/01/2025 22:26

Oh don't get me wrong, it's still a good price, but the point is that £1.25 is still a fairly big sudden price in my opinion.

cheesymashfortea · 08/01/2025 22:27

Mozzarella is one that sticks in my mind. Pre COL crisis you could buy a ball for 40p in Asda, it’s normally well over £1 now

herbetta · 08/01/2025 22:31

Dearg · 08/01/2025 19:32

Heinz beans - the snack pot size. DH likes these - were £2.50 , though often on offer 2 for £4 or so. Now £3.50 for the same pack of 4 and not seen any offers lately.
Tins should be better value but I don’t eat them so the excess gets binned.

Freeze them into portions?!

hedgehogsinthehedgerow · 08/01/2025 22:34

Thanks herbetta I hadn't thought of going there for it, will do.

I agree about salmon, not only has it gone up so much but when I have bought some it definitely doesn't taste as good. I expect the good one is even more expensive now.

Are shareholders in these supermarkets still getting the same big payouts then? I don't know how it all works.

Used to really love Nescafe Azera Americano coffee but that went way out of my price range ages ago! I got my tastebuds used to Asda Gold but even that bounces between £2 and £2.50 now.

Olive oil is another one I can't afford anymore.

vickibee · 09/01/2025 03:49

Bisto gravy granules
3 quid for a small pack in Tesco recently. Crazy

nomoretoriesforme · 09/01/2025 04:36

Unfortunately, it will get worse. We are heading into hyperinflation territory. Everything will increase in prices once more. The main purpose of this - transfer of wealth. They ( ruling elite) wants us to be more poor - it's easier to control people when they don't have money/ assets.

YesItsMe44 · 09/01/2025 06:46

I went shopping for a few things Sunday and looked not twice, but multiple times at the price of eggs. At first I thought the prices were placed on the wrong product. The avian flu has made eggs ridiculously expensive. A dozen starts at $10. I'm waiting for the trickle down affect such as the chicken, premade breakfast items, etc

herpastcanchangethefuture · 09/01/2025 06:56

Marmite, pasta, olive oil, anything by Heinz.

Nsky62 · 09/01/2025 06:57

destiel00 · 08/01/2025 19:16

That's the issue...
Even aldi and lidl have doubled in price
I'm spending double what I did in 2020 and not buying anything different
Madness
CEOs and shareholders of these companies are getting richer and richer

5 years is a long time

reichs79 · 09/01/2025 07:02

Noticed last night ready meals in Tesco have gone up to £8 for 3. Increased of 50p since beginning of January.

GentlyAnarchistic · 09/01/2025 07:03

Heinz - soup, ketchup and beans seem to have gone up massively.

mitogoshigg · 09/01/2025 07:07

Olive oil is the biggest, peppers and courgettes are up, chopped tomatoes too but at least they were cheap to start with, pasta is up about 50% (75p rather than 50p) eggs, butter and flour but plenty hasn't changed that much considering it's 4 years and my salary has been increased over 12% since then.

mitogoshigg · 09/01/2025 07:17

But pukka tea bags are now ridiculous. I don't buy anymore. Used to be £3 a box or 2 for £4 on offer, went up to 2 for £5 which I could hack but now they are £4 a box or 2 for £7, I'm on Lidl 89p bags instead

Damnloginpopup · 09/01/2025 07:23

MogontheTyne · 08/01/2025 19:16

I bet you it won't go back to anywhere near what it was though. They might lop 10% off to make us feel happy...

Monstermashermashedthemonster · 09/01/2025 07:28

Yoghurts even shops own brand ones have gone up.
Ds has a limited diet and will only eat certain yoghurts.
He needs 10 a weeks for school and then some for home.
