What would you do with it?

OP posts:
Nourishinghandcream · 06/01/2025 10:50

Put it into savings/investments (yes, I know that is boring☹️).

No mortgage, nothing needed around the house or garden, car not yet ready to be replaced.

ChocoChocoLatte · 06/01/2025 10:51

Pay off debts

MonopolyQueen · 06/01/2025 10:51

I’d say thank you and quit my job and use the time to find a nicer one.

WickedlyCharmed · 06/01/2025 10:52

I’d transfer 10k to DS, book a holiday for me and DH, allocate 5k to buy some new furniture and some bits of clothes, some new trainers, a new handbag, and then put 50k in savings.

LittleRedRidingHoody · 06/01/2025 10:52

Knock it off my mortgage I think.

Basketballhoop · 06/01/2025 10:53

Pay off my mortgage and book a lovely holiday.

SiobhanSharpe · 06/01/2025 10:53

Probably give about 50k to DC as a deposit to buy a property.
Bung the rest into general savings eg income bonds, a high interest/no withdrawals long term savings account (such as they are!)

Martymcfly24 · 06/01/2025 10:53

New kitchen (doors of my one falling off)
Proper built in wardrobe for all bedrooms.
Upgrade my car because it is literally on its last legs!
Holiday for us all.
I have thought about this.

MaggieBsBoat · 06/01/2025 10:53

Sit staring at it on my banking portal for hours.
Book a holiday to Disneyland (which I loathe but my kids are desperate to go).
use it as a deposit on a buy to let.

PlantDoctor · 06/01/2025 10:54

Pay someone to do the renovations that have been hanging around forever

CaptainCabinetsTrappedInCabinets · 06/01/2025 10:54
  • Book a fabulous 2 week holiday somewhere warm (5k)
  • Buy a camper van (15k)
  • Deposit on a house (55k)
TartanMammy · 06/01/2025 10:56

A very nice holiday, new car for DP and pay off my mortgage.

Although it would perform better in savings than on the mortgage for me at the moment so I'd have to weigh it up.

Life changing money for us.

Hoolihan · 06/01/2025 10:56

50k on mortgage, 15k savings, couple of holidays/trips, garden spruce up, new carpets.

NetballHoop · 06/01/2025 10:58

£10K to each of the chidren for house deposits and the rest into ISAs for us. That would use it sall up and still leave a £5k ISA allowance to fill.

Oh, and @Basketballhoop, hello Grin

Hoolihan · 06/01/2025 10:58

Oh and festival tickets!

fairylights79 · 06/01/2025 10:59

Worktops
sofa
bed frame
oven and hob
Extractor fan
The rest in savings

Titasaducksarse · 06/01/2025 11:01

Book a holiday somewhere warm by end Jan budget £5k. Sit on a beach deciding what to do with the rest.

MrsMoastyToasty · 06/01/2025 11:02

It's approximately 3 years wages from my crappy job , so I would retire 3 years earlier than planned. (I'm already in my late 50s).

CakeFace1234 · 06/01/2025 11:02

Finish our house and make it draught-proof, inc new porch and redecorate some rooms - 20k used. Put 45k on the mortgage. Start some savings - 5k. Put 5k towards a nice holiday.

How lovely.

CharityShopMensGlasses · 06/01/2025 11:03

Put 35k on the mortgage
20k helping out friends and family with paying off some debts/helping with things they may need.
5k on furnishing/decorating house
5k savings
Then Rest to start some savings for the kids

CherryBlossom321 · 06/01/2025 11:04

£60,000 off the mortgage, £15,000 into savings.

SizzlingPrickle · 06/01/2025 11:05

Keep about £15k in an easy access savings account for “just in case”.

The rest locked away in as high a rate savings account as I could find until I’m due to remortgage. I’m on a really low rate (less than 2%) so it makes more sense for me to do it this way rather than pay a stonking fee to the bank!!

TheCrenchinglyMcQuaffenBrothers · 06/01/2025 11:07

One third to pay off remaining debt. A chunk to do the kitchen, which after taking twenty years to re do the house (back to lath and plaster) top to bottom is the only remaining thing left. And if anything left, maybe re insulate the loft because it’s probably old enough to be making the house less efficient. No mortgage and they’re the three remaining things on my to do list before I can dial back my business. It would be just the right amount to have right now tbh.

Bluevelvetsofa · 06/01/2025 11:08

Some money to grandchildren.

Replace worktop

Car just for me

Savings

MrsSkylerWhite · 06/01/2025 11:09

Give £25k each to kids and put £25k in savings.
