What would you do with it?

OP posts:

The home "improvements" that I haven't been able to afford for years and then some savings behind me

BigDahliaFan · 06/01/2025 16:23

Really nice holiday (18k-ish), and get the windows done, we need hard wood double glazed.

Wishingplenty · 06/01/2025 16:26

I have that and don't feel particularly wealthy.

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 06/01/2025 16:27

Extend into the loft, buy a small second car (electric), we've only had one car for ages and whilst it's fine it would be better with two, get someone in to do all the odd little DIY jobs that need finishing/doing.

Saschka · 06/01/2025 16:27

House stuff unfortunately! £75000 sounds like a lot but actually doesn’t go that far once you’ve replaced your windows, repointed your chimney, landscaped the garden and redone your bathroom. I’d use anything left over on a holiday.

Mysterian · 06/01/2025 16:36

250,000 Freddo bars.

Have you been reading the holidays thread?😂

so much for Gas, electric, rent then savings for rest

Needmorelego · 06/01/2025 16:40

@Mysterian no you need to use some of it for a flight to Australia because their strawberry and pineapple flavour Freddos are yummy 😁

Raindropskeepfallinonmyhead · 06/01/2025 16:41

That would clear my mortgage more or less to the penny, including the early pay off fee but still cheaper than paying the interest off!

TwigletsAndRadishes · 06/01/2025 16:42

25k each to each of my children.

fussychica · 06/01/2025 16:50

Possibly move as that much would open up a few areas where we currently can't afford the kind of property we'd like. Otherwise do a few things to our current home give DS a sizable chunk, save the rest. No mortgage.

Starryknightcloud · 06/01/2025 17:31

25k for mortgage next time it's up
20k for ISA next tax year
15k for a years school fees
5k premium bonds
5k DDs SIPP/ISA
5k for spending

Titasaducksarse · 06/01/2025 17:56

Interesting how many posts feature a donation to charity

So I can feather the nest of charity admin types and men who trade aid for sex in disaster zones? No thanks, I'll pay the mortgage thanks.

Baital · 06/01/2025 18:06

Loft conversion if that would cover it.

After that pay off mortgage.

myladyjane · 06/01/2025 18:07

New (to us) car - 20k ish
A few household projects another 25k
Split the rest between dds for uni funds. It wouldn't be much I suspect but may cover a chunk of living costs.

I spent my whole career on low salary, no perks, minimal pension contributions, holidays were camping etc… despite having made an independently assessed impact of over £20 million net contribution to a particular client sector.

So that’s why I finally need quality dental treatment and would like a good holiday,

Thanks. @Upstartled

teapotfullofsquash · 06/01/2025 18:11

@Titasaducksarse charity starts at home when you are currently renting from a millionaire landlord and paying the mortgage on his 10th house.

susiedaisy1912 · 06/01/2025 18:15

Pay it off my mortgage so that I could work part time.

BCBird · 06/01/2025 18:33

Spend 5k and save the rest

louderthan · 06/01/2025 20:55

Holiday, small shopping spree, pay off credit cards, intensive driving course and car. Then I like to think I'd use the rest for a deposit on a flat but in all honesty I might buy a horse...

ffsgloria · 06/01/2025 21:15

The couple of references to 18k on a holiday have made me lol

henlake7 · 06/01/2025 21:20

Probably give 15k to my best friend, 10k to my brother and the rest for some major reno projects.
