What would you do with it?

OP posts:
ErinAoife · 06/01/2025 11:10

Clear off my mortgage and do some of house repair that I haven't done due ro lack of funds and not emergency

OurDreamLife · 06/01/2025 11:10

Spend £5k on a few house things and save the rest.

CatOnAHotRadiator · 06/01/2025 11:11

Put it straight into savings for the building work we’ve booked in.

Straightomyhead · 06/01/2025 11:11

Buy a new staircase as ours is so old and has gaps between the steps. Not great for a soon to be walking 1 year old. £5k

Knock down a wall and make a new kitchen dinner £40k/£50k

Really nice holiday £5k

And half of the rest on our montage and half of the rest in saving for my second maternity leave later in the year.

squirrelnutcartel · 06/01/2025 11:11

I'd give it to my eldest son to put towards buying a home. My youngest son is already okay in this respect, but I worry about my eldest as he has adhd.

MiniStormInATeacup · 06/01/2025 11:12

Pay off some debts
Newer to us car
Bathroom redone - remove bath for big shower unit.
Have our bedroom decorated, new carpet and furniture
Lounge decorated, new carpet and sofa.
Holiday abroad for us all inc passports
A few new clothing items for me and husband.
Any other little jobs that need doing in house
Save the rest as our mortgage is nearly paid off (5 years left) so I'd rather have some funds available.

notnorman · 06/01/2025 11:12

Fill isa

BurningBright · 06/01/2025 11:12

That would clear my mortgage.

orangegato · 06/01/2025 11:12

Pay off mortgage then move house to a better one sharpish.
A long haul holiday.
A car for my partner.

HPandthelastwish · 06/01/2025 11:20

Full wack in Premium bonds, top up my Lisa for the year.
The rest in a decent interest rate savings account to top up the Lisa in future years.

I have some loans from completing home renovations but they are only at 3.3% so wouldn't make sense to pay them off when savings are higher, I'd probably use any Premium bonds wins to pay them off though.

No rent or mortgage although a £15k loan left to my parents for inheritance they lent me to buy my place outright but that's interest free and they prefer it paid slowly as otherwise they would waste a lump sum apparently.

CamelByCamel · 06/01/2025 11:21

It would clear the mortgage, not by much, but we do want to do a few things to the house as well. So would probably start by just overpaying the 10% permitted without penalty, then about 15-20k of work. Rest would be set aside.

pinkroses79 · 06/01/2025 11:23

Pay off mortgage and keep the rest for now.

Needmorelego · 06/01/2025 11:23

Driving lessons
Car
All the insurance etc that goes with a car
New bed
New mattress
Decent pillows
The rest in the bank

Poihg · 06/01/2025 11:24

Pay off debts and a holiday

bigkidatheart · 06/01/2025 11:25

pay off some debts and my car - and go to Sainsburys and do a big shop!

Samanabanana · 06/01/2025 11:26

New (to me) car and the rest towards the mortgage!

Marmite27 · 06/01/2025 11:26

Pay off the mortgage and have a holiday.

StarCourt · 06/01/2025 11:27

i'd buy more shares in my SO property and put some into DD's savings

ChaToilLeam · 06/01/2025 11:29

Do up the kitchen. Save most, but keep some aside for a very nice holiday.

FabulouslyFab · 06/01/2025 11:33

Tie £50k up in a high interest account for 12 months so I don’t waste it!
The rest in an accessible savings account for holidays, days out, theatre tickets, meals out etc. Fun vouchers!

user87349287657 · 06/01/2025 11:33

Would depend a bit, on where it came from. But assuming no strings attached, 10k to spend spend spend and divide the rest between DC. But we are old-ish, no mortgage, lots of investments already.
It would have been spent on mortgage and sensible stuff 20 years ago.

Ineedpeaceandquiet · 06/01/2025 11:34

One third in a high interest account.
One third in a gold tracker fund.
One third in a solid shares fund.

Diversification and growth is what you should do.

MamaTrois · 06/01/2025 11:35

Pay off debt
Book a holiday
Some small decorating works at home
Put some more aside for a bigger (second hand) car

Itsbrtnybish · 06/01/2025 11:35

£10k each in the stocks and shares isas for the kids.

new bathroom £5k
spruce up house a bit £5k
£10k on a lovely holiday
£5k each to dm and mil

invest the rest

you got me dreaming now, i could really use the £75k

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 06/01/2025 11:35

Clear my debts and put heating in my mum's house and fix her roof and chimney before it caves in and have her loo replaced. Anything left I'd save.
