Bought beautiful new bedsheets. Reduced in the sale, gorgeous colours with toadstools on them, felt ok in the shop.
Got them home, washed them and they have gone shiny 🤬 like the kind of static shiny so that your duvet ends up in a weird shape and you're rolled up like a stuck sweating pig.

Am absolutely gutted (and furious 😠) and hoping a trip to Homesense will cure me of my wierd shiny-bedsheet-hate.

OMG I was complaining only a few days ago that a couple of tops I had recently bought had suddenly sprung holes

Sorry, not read the rest of the thread but holes in cotton tops is moths for sure. Put some old fashioned mothballs in your drawer or wardrobe.

Crimpit toastie maker, absolutely tiny, great if you want half a toastie and to waste a whole slice of bread

Was about to post this. Also an omlette maker, nice omlettes but tiny! Got a snowman cheesecake from Sainsbury's. Looked great, but absolutely tasteless!

BrendaSmall · 04/01/2025 20:19

The square one is meant to be used with the sandwich thins and the circle one is for wraps!

Well not really, the description says ‘The mess-free way to make toasties in minutes using normal toastie bread’ and the video clearly shows people using normal slices of bread.

Plastic pyjamas 😳 A relative has fully bought into the "family smiling in a happy group wearing fluffy matching PJs" shit. So we got the full complement of monstrous, sweaty, cheap nightwear. I can't wear it, it makes me sweat like a trapped animal. Proudly made of melted down bottles?! I cannot.

Two kids have sensory issues so they outright refuse to even look at plastic pyjamas .The remaining will wear it to play in, but it washes weird and either hyper absorbs the laundry detergent scent, or dries too slow and ends up smelling of wet dog. And every time you touch them you get a static shock... The dog is very on edge during the child's wearing of said garments 😅

Every bit of Waitrose party food was truly disgusting. The mini burgers were shameful for the price. Greasy, boring, cheaply made, the cheese sauce tasted like vomit.

Their Teriyaki beef balls on sticks tasted like cat treats. Duck spring rolls were greasy and basic with approx 0.0005% actual duck within.
Waitrose chocolate cake was a disc of synthetic hell fodder, I felt like it was a laboratory experiment in just how far removed "food" can be from actual basic real ingredients. Never again! Their pigs in blankets looked good but tasted greasy and cheap.

Special mention for Morrisons chocolate chip pannetone. Now that was truly obscene as an experience. Somehow rancid tasting, overfilled with what can only be described as pellets of brown wax disguised as choc chips. I had a bite, and fell into such a trance of horror/disbelief that I actually ate a few more bits to see if it was real, if it could REALLY be that disgusting...? Yes, is the answer. It was a dense puck of inedible sour wax, strongly reminiscent of a chunk of palm oil I once saw washed up on a beach.

Morrisons "best" fruit lemonades in glass bottles were literal fizzy chemical scum as well. It evoked the 1990s experience of licking one of those bath pearls filled with scented oil.
That lemonade/raspberryade is heinously grotesque as a fluid, how they dare to dress it up in a glass bottle with a premium label, it's some sort of horrendous social experiment I'm sure, to see just how much we'll tolerate in terms of terrible products. My tooth enamel is just too important since the demise of NHS dentistry, to ever risk drinking Morrisons premium lemonade again.

Thanks for the laugh! 🤣🤣

Holes in tops I'm convinced are caused by t-shirts and tops getting rubbed between jeans and car seatbelts.

I came on to say the same.

Useless.

It’s worth looking in charity shops for a big old sellotape dispenser. The tiny ones they make nowadays are rubbish. Our one is really weighty and makes wrapping so easy! Charity shops round here seem to have them a lot.

Rymans have them too.

Crazymamof8 · 04/01/2025 21:50

Tesco extra special Christmas cake cost me £10.50 was there was nothing special about it.

Electric egg boiler , set for soft boil and came out hard boiled

Try using less water in it and experiment until you get it right. We use ours all the time, it's fab!

Gowlett · 04/01/2025 22:03

What are the tiny holes about? Shite t-shirts!

Never had a hole in my t-shirt until recent times.

Not from moths, not from belts, not from jeans.
Not from the washing machine, not from seatbelts.

I do have a fat belly now, so it might be that?

Jeans just aren’t the same anymore, either…

Gowlett · 04/01/2025 22:05

Sellotape itself is also shite now. Even actual Sellotape.

Andrex, too. Quite literally shite… Not good enough!

Jigsawpuzzled · 04/01/2025 22:06

I rushed out to get a very merry munch tin from m&s after reading about it on here. Wish I hadn't bothered, very disappointed particularly for the price. We didn't even finish it.

Fluffy pjs wasted never wear them can’t sleep in them

If they're a size 12 I was born for them! ONLY wear fluffy pjs as am the coldest person in the world (currently in fluffy pjs, fluffy socks, fleece AND Oodie. Debating whether to get into bed or heat the wheatbag up first 😂)

Dyson Airwrap. Curls just do not stay on long/thick hair it’s basically a very expensive hairdryer at this point

And Phillips Lumea hair remover, I’m very pale with dark hair so should be ideal for it but still hairy 🤷🏼‍♀️

Sorry hubby I keep wasting your money

I watched a few tutorials on airwraps and have had some success. If you immediately gather the curl and pin it, give it all a good spritz with hairspray and just let it sit for half an hour or so then they do stay in. The cold shot is important.

Turkey crown from the supermarket, we always get a full turkey and this year I was convinced by others to buy a crown.

It was cooked using a temperature probe and rested well. It was basted and I covered it under the skin with seasoned butter. Cooked slowly, covered in foil etc etc. I have been cooking turkeys for twenty years and can cook a fabulous roast.

This thing had no flavour, not one bit and was the driest thing ever.

I will be ordering a full turkey from a local butcher next year, the disappointment in this was huge.

I did a turkey crown this year in the slow cooker and it was really nice. Used this recipe

The best looroll I found is the Asda ownbrand quilted one .
If I do go there ( not very often as I hate the car park) then I buy at least a couple of packs of it .
I'm ok at the moment as we bought a pack of Costco Kirkland looroll when we went in November .

Robotnik · 04/01/2025 22:22

The "warm white" fairly lights I got from Asda were bright yellow. I hoped they would look a bit better when on the tree, but actually that just made them look yellowy-green. They were less Christmas and more Halloween.

I bought a tub of this a couple of years ago , it was such a disappointment . It is a random selection of WTF in chocolate .
There's also a Merry Jelly Munch or similar name , I didn't even look at this !

This ^

Although now I have the tin, I’m going to make my own nicer version of it next year!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 04/01/2025 22:25

I bought a couple of fleece layer tops for DD for when we went away .
They left a load of fluff over her clothes , the colour ran in the wash . She was not a fan at all .

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 04/01/2025 22:29

Oh and another crushing disappointment -
I love ElbowGrease products - the spray , the paste .
I saw some bathroom foam in an aerosol can and thought "Oh just the thing"

I would;ve had to have the strength of Geoff Capes to make this thing spray and when I did manage ( using both hands and a lot of swearing ) it dribbles out and a measly puff of foam .
I was so tempted to return it to the shop but I banished it into the bathroom cupboard and forgot .

dyson is not a curling tool thoigh. its to give you a nice bouncy blow dry like pricess kate has. like waves. there are some tutorials on you tube that help but it's not a curling tool. you need curling tongs or hot rollers for long thick hair. dilly from Stacey sort your life out and trimny have good insta reels on them. I have long thick hair and love it now once I I got used to it

M&S mini Yorkshire puddings from their party food section.

Came in a plastic tray with individual "cups" for the Yorkshires.

Instructions clearly stated to cook in the tray (I checked)

The tray melted onto my large oven tray that came with my month old oven and DH spent a good hour on Boxing Day scraping off the plastic.

I would put a complaint in to M&S.

Poinsettias cannot survive in the UK. Day length is wrong for these tropical plants.

what makes it worse is that all shops that sell them have them on display by the door so wind and draught has killed them bwfore even bought

My DC have these and they are a bit trial and error but can work well. They need to be well frozen in the freezer, if you take them out too soon they don't work, and also work best if the drink you put in is chilled first.

We have these, they work in one freezer but not our other freezer despite both freezers reading the same temperature.
