Bought beautiful new bedsheets. Reduced in the sale, gorgeous colours with toadstools on them, felt ok in the shop.
Got them home, washed them and they have gone shiny 🤬 like the kind of static shiny so that your duvet ends up in a weird shape and you're rolled up like a stuck sweating pig.

Am absolutely gutted (and furious 😠) and hoping a trip to Homesense will cure me of my wierd shiny-bedsheet-hate.

I got my toddler a mermaid costume as a Santa present. She wore the dress for an hour on Christmas Day and the hem started to rip. She wore it again on Boxing Day and it ripped even more, to the point she wouldn’t be able to wear it again. I want to return it but we’ve lost some of the accessories it came with so I don’t know if I can.

I would contact the retailer and send photos. There's a good chance if they see the photos they won't bother asking for you to return it and will just send a second.

I bought lots of party food from Aldi, all of which was great except the pork belly bites. Absolutely horrendous. I don't know why they included little serving picks, they were basically pork belly crumbs with lumps of fat. Grim. I was very disappointed.

We were also really disappointed with the pork belly bites! We’ve had them the previous Christmas and they were great but ours were the same as yours. We also got some dim sum from Aldi that had zero taste at all. The duck hoisin bao buns were fantastic though. Bacon wrapped halloumi with hot honey from M&S was disappointing.

Someone gifted my 7 month old multiple chocolate santas. She has CMPA so can’t eat them anyway but she’s barely eating regular meals properly let alone chocolate.

Catherine Lansfield has a sale with JD Williams, online - Forestall bedsheets, like the ones you're talking about (I absolutely love the patterns!), all different colours and patterns. Worth having a look. I've always found the quality really good and they wash really well! I also recommend the Teddy-Bear fleece sets they have in the sale - Sooooo comfy!

The poinsettia plant I was given this Christmas.
Despite all the love, light and water I’ve lavished on it, from day one it has been losing leaves and flowers by the handful. They just click off the stem.
What a pathetic side plot to the festive season…

Poinsettias cannot survive in the UK. Day length is wrong for these tropical plants.

Diversion · 04/01/2025 20:19

@TheFormidableMrsC Our daughter brought some for our Boxing Day buffet but they weren't needed so we cooked them tonight. Squeezed them out of the packet and they reminded me of the part on Poltergeist where the bloke tears his face apart (sorry). DH did eat them and said they were tasty, I didnt touch them.

Crimpit toastie maker, absolutely tiny, great if you want half a toastie and to waste a whole slice of bread

The square one is meant to be used with the sandwich thins and the circle one is for wraps!

I used to always buy a couple of white poinsettias from Dobbies, can't stand anything red, but this year they had none prior to their closure, however I saw some pink/white ones in Lidl and they've been fantastic, even thriving on my neglect, one especially is still going strong.

I think neglect is the way to go, as I did basically the opposite of all the advice here.
Once I gave up on my poinsettia it has been hanging on for dear life!
I’ll make it a personal challenge to keep one from shedding next year.

DoughBallss · 04/01/2025 20:26

Dyson Airwrap. Curls just do not stay on long/thick hair it’s basically a very expensive hairdryer at this point

And Phillips Lumea hair remover, I’m very pale with dark hair so should be ideal for it but still hairy 🤷🏼‍♀️

Sorry hubby I keep wasting your money

Projector wont link to pixel phone without a special connector/port thing. Even if it does connect, apparently Netflix and the like block screen sharing on them anyway so you'd need another connector thing and a few different types of wire. Bloody pointless.

Oh yeah. Did that a few years ago…and several times (3) as I kept hoping the next projector will link to an apple product as advertised on box 🤯

I am now fairly certain you need to be coming out from MIT to actually make it work.

😆

We got these M&S Christmas chocolates which looked absolutely exquisite and so festive, I was really excited to try them.

They tasted of bitter disappointment. The chocolate seemed cheap, and although they were different flavours, they all tasted pretty much the same. I only really enjoyed the large salted caramel star - we thought all the rest were very meh. I think they'd spent all the money on the beautiful packaging.

I'm also a bit obsessed with trying to find a decent yule log, but they are always a disappointment. Wasn't going to bother this year, but ended up getting a Sainsburys taste the difference one as saw some decent reviews. It was rubbish. Dry, and just tasted of sugar rather than chocolate, which I find is a problem with most supermarket chocolate cakes.

Mine was a poinsettia too - one I bought from M&S (large one in basket that was delivered). I buy the same one every year and they normally last well but this one's leaves started turning black within days. It probably got too cold in storage or during delivery.

Crunchyqueen · 04/01/2025 20:40

Oh gosh @RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie we got one last year and it was absolutely horrid yucky! Completely inedible. My eldest who despite my best efforts has an insatiable sweet tooth and a couple of bites - even he wasn't interested!

Grammarnut · 04/01/2025 10:49

You are not supposed to wear earings constantly. But I keep in a pair of studs which are definitely not high-end and have a plain metal stud - never have inflamed piercing even after a week (longest I leave them). This might be a reaction to something else other than the Swarovski earings - I find cleaning with antiseptic helps and also cold tea.

Edited

Dd had the same with a Ted Baker set that was meant to be a "special" set due to the price. We now just get Titanium as that is what is used to pierce ears and can be left in.

Waitrose Yule Log at £7 - just really average!

Yes!!! Terrible! Dry and claggy and extremely sweet. Really disappointing.

Are you sure you are using your Lumea properly? Mine has been bloody brilliant. You do need to give it a few sessions, a couple of weeks apart. It can take a while to kill off the hair follicle. It won't just stop all hair growing from the very first use, but with regular use in the beginning, you will find the required time between uses gets longer and longer until eventually you don't need it at all.

Oldenoughtoknowbetteryoungatheart · 04/01/2025 20:50

I got given the Mark Hill Air wrap/styler/hairdryer for Xmas and it's brilliant. They were on offer in Boots for £80 recently. Even comes in a really pice pink bag.

NotYouAgain · 04/01/2025 20:52

Has anyone mentioned the Lidl Train yet? Heavily advertised, we were really anticipating it being great but our local store seemed to get about 4 in and sold out straight away.
I got one on Christmas eve from another shop, was feeling really pleased with myself but it was disgusting. Really thick tasteless chocolate shell, the salted caramel mousse inside had dissolved into salted caramel gloop, and the whole thing was ridiculously sweet.
Not even my nephew (a real chocolate lover) managed to finish his portion and my girls refused to even touch it

VirginiaCreepers · 04/01/2025 20:56

Thanks to @PandaChopChop for starting this thread. If it puts me off fancy Christmas pre-prepared party food for life, will save me a fortune.

For belly pork lovers, easy enough to make your own. I marinade pork belly slices in soy sauce, ginger, garlic and honey before roasting. I serve with lime wedges and they are delicious. Would be easy to cut into pieces and skewer with a toothpick for party food.

KikiandCo · 04/01/2025 21:07

The over-priced box of crackers from Sainsbury’s that didn’t contain a toy or mildly funny jokes. We threw the spare crackers away.

They do a bread one https://crimpit.co.uk/products/crimpit-toastie-maker-bread-sealer - reckon you have bought the sandwich thin size

We bought this one and honestly still not that great

I always make sure any bedding I buy is 100% cotton. My daughter suffers from eczema. My son used to but grew that and the memories of awful nylon sheets as a child. It's just something I've always done. No matter how much I love sheets or a duvet set if it's less than 100% cotton I don't buy.

But doesn’t 100% cotton needs lots of ironing!

Can't you just buy an adaptor?

USA is 120Volt.

UK is 240Volt

(Yes, it is!)
