Bought beautiful new bedsheets. Reduced in the sale, gorgeous colours with toadstools on them, felt ok in the shop.
Got them home, washed them and they have gone shiny 🤬 like the kind of static shiny so that your duvet ends up in a weird shape and you're rolled up like a stuck sweating pig.

Am absolutely gutted (and furious 😠) and hoping a trip to Homesense will cure me of my wierd shiny-bedsheet-hate.

Ours constantly disconnects from WiFi. It seems to lag behind the ps5 and then cuts out. It also won’t connect when we are out which is a shame!

My husband had the same issue with his last year and connecting it directly to the router via an Ethernet cable has totally fixed it, he loves it now

SpiritOfEcstasy · 04/01/2025 19:23

I bought new bedding in the sale too. Super soft 💯 cotton. It was horrible! Really rough and cheap feeling. It’s been returned already.

🤷‍♀️ dunno. I have ADHD so find the egg boiler very handy as I have a tendency to walk away from things, forget they exist and then they burn ect. My egg boiler screams like a smoke alarm when it's done 😅

I am also the sort of person who walks away and forgets things are cooking. I find it use my "Clever Chef" for rice and pasta for this reason as it switches itself off and my Ninja Speedi for baked/ airfry etc. To solve my boiled egg issue, I use a pan on the hob, put the eggs in cold water and put on high. Once the water is boiling I ask Alexa to set a timer for 3 minutes. The eggs nearly always come out spot on and I get a good loud alarm for warning.

For some reason many of the new cotton tops we have bought this year have immediately sprung small holes. Huh. Maybe we have bugs.

Larger purchase: my house.

That’s your washing machine making holes.. are you overfilling?

Aldi juicer. I had a juicer years ago but forgot it takes a bag and a half of oranges for one cup, and the Aldi one is particularly shite.

It's going straight to the charity shop this morning and my 'no buying anything other than food and fuel' starts again today. Lost my 2 day streak over that hunk of crap.

Take it back to Aldi if you have the receipt, they are pretty good about returns.

Hi guys I'm new to this site, when I'm reading posts I don't know what the abrivations mean, I know mil. But the others I'm just guessing. Would be very helpful if someone could fill me in please 😊?

A sellotape dispenser I got from Ocado. It was tiny and I couldn't get it to work at all. Completely useless.

I had to borrow my dad's instead.

Card factory, £1.99 for one like they use in offices/at a florists etc. makes wrapping so much easier.

Actuslly @PandaChopChop I should have said in my previous that not only does a lot of stainless steel have nickel in (even some surgical grades), you need at least 14 carat gold to avoid nickel in gold as well. White gold always has some in though. Sterling silver (93.5% pure but with copper and germanium added) usually affects my ears despite not having nickel in.

Gold and silver, like titanium and niobium, are elements but too soft to make into jewellery in pure form. Niobium and Titanium are strong and don’t need anything added hence being used for medical implants but some people may still be allergic. It’s a bit of a minefield!

Nickel has been banned from use in jewellery in the EU and UK for many years now. There are white gold alloys that don’t contain nickel.

Alloys bought abroad (including US) or from cheap imports on Etsy, Temu etc may still contain nickel.

My husband bought me the new Apple Watch for Christmas from John Lewis. He bought it with gift vouchers because he gets a work discount when he buys John Lewis vouchers, so it saved a bit of money. As requested by me, he ordered the rose gold one with a blush pink small/medium strap. When I opened it in Christmas Day they’d sent a silver one with a denim medium/large strap. Have only just received the refund after sending it back, but the watch he actually ordered has been out of stock since Christmas and has gone up £20 since he bought it. Can’t buy it from anywhere else either because we’ll be stuck with John Lewis gift vouchers, so I have yet to have a Christmas present and apparently they have no idea when they’ll get more in stock. First world problems, but really disappointing on Christmas morning as I’d been looking forward to getting it since he ordered it in November. John Lewis refused to refund in cash so I could buy it elsewhere and didn’t even apologise.

Clinique Black Honey lipstick. Long coveted and - for me - expensive. I was really looking forward to trying it out but what a disappointment! It sticks to any dry skin on the lips (I didn’t even realise I had any!) making lips look flaky, and the final look is very much ‘red wine’ lips. Yuck. Literally the worst lipstick I’ve ever used.

I was given one and love it! not red wine for me. I use along with my usual chapstick

ShinyWorthKeeping · 04/01/2025 19:43

I bought a pack of mirrors from amazon during covid times planning on decorating a whole bedroom wall as I'd seen someone doing online. I received about 7 mirrors made of plastic, each the size of a 50p Grin

@TorroFerney it wasimpossible to do the 'easy peel' unwrap here without ruining nails and tearing out large chunks of paper - Xmas eve ( when I always wrap) )I reckon my swearing on it reached new levels

This happened to me last year with Tesco’s and the card factory’s wrapping paper but the I found the ones I bought this year from Sainsbury’s were really easy to open with no damage to my gel nails or wasting loads of paper.

TimPat · 04/01/2025 19:47

Satin 'Elphaba' pyjamas from Asda for DD who's a massive wicked fan, she went to put them on first time and they'd split down the seam at the back. Luckily top still had tags on so returned them, didn't have the same ones so got the pink Glinda ones. Worn once, washed as per instructions and both the top and bottoms have frayed and come apart down all the seams. Absolute rubbish.

Agree! I adore mine. You need to be using a nice lip mask overnight to get your lips really soft and then it glides on like a dream. The colour also looks better if your lips are smooth and uniform I find. I use the Laneige overnight lip mask (admittedly I got this for free with an online order from Look Fantastic - I added it to my basket and then removed it and for some reason they still sent it to me along with my other items, I’d never pay for it as it’s so pricey lol).

The poinsettia plant I was given this Christmas.
Despite all the love, light and water I’ve lavished on it, from day one it has been losing leaves and flowers by the handful. They just click off the stem.
What a pathetic side plot to the festive season…

I used to always buy a couple of white poinsettias from Dobbies, can't stand anything red, but this year they had none prior to their closure, however I saw some pink/white ones in Lidl and they've been fantastic, even thriving on my neglect, one especially is still going strong.

if a ‘proper’ mathmos (I think) lamp, they take hours to heat up and blob.

I agree with this , they take quite a while to get going.
Go careful when they are working at full steam , they get very hot .
My brilliant DB bought me a candle operated one , is small so gets going quicker . This has been lit for about ½ - ¾ of a hr .

Not this Christmas just gone but the previous one, I bought those chocolate pine cones from M&S. Really wanted to try them even though they were about £15! They were just...ok. Nothing particularly special...not sure what I was expecting really 🤣 but not worth £15 for what was essentially chocolate mousse!

I bought them and like you i was deeply disappointed, like a giant Walnut whip thingy, waste of money and very non-descript

Optigan · 04/01/2025 19:50

ThisQuirkyPeachHare · 04/01/2025 17:48

Try the Contigo ones.. they're excellent. My only gripe would be that they're too good at keeping your drink hot 🤣
Don't leak and you just press the button when you sip to open the seal.

Second this! I have had mine 18 months and it still keeps my drink hot for hours.

MILLYmo0se · 04/01/2025 12:12

Do you just roll sausages (skinless sausages?) in pastry? What temp do you cook them at?

If I don't manage to get sausage meat form the butcher then I use ordinary ones with the skin removed and mashed up but in both cases I add a very finely chopped onion and something like smoked paprika. Puff pastry needs a hot over but make sure the 'seams' are well closed otherwise they burst open!

I was disappointed with the selection of the M&S party food on Christmas eve, in past years there has been lots of choice , a decent selection
this year barely much choice, alot of fishy dishes?
barely any mince pies, no christmas munch tins-definitely not good Christmas selection 2024
think i might do my own party food this Christmas 2025, as mentioned on previous posts, although would prefer not cooking at all ! imagine a catered Christmas break , staying in a lovely house, swimming pool, all food prepared and cooked for you….
can only dream !

Didn't people say that M and S were massively reducing from the afternoon of the 23rd, which is probably why there wasn't much left on 24th!

I got sucked into buying this about eight years ago after reading rave reviews on Mumsnet and beyond - "suits anyone!" "best lipstick ever!"

Nope - dried out my lips and made my mouth look like a dog's bottom. Awful.

Anyway, I didn't buy or receive anything disappointing - but I've just managed to send back a return to the wrong company. Argh!

Beachesandcream · 04/01/2025 20:03

A new toaster that a normal slice of bread won’t fit in. It’s so annoying you have to keep popping it up and turning the bread round. It’s always hard and unevenly cooked by the time you are done. I want to throw it out of the window!!!

Tangled123 · 04/01/2025 20:03

I got my toddler a mermaid costume as a Santa present. She wore the dress for an hour on Christmas Day and the hem started to rip. She wore it again on Boxing Day and it ripped even more, to the point she wouldn’t be able to wear it again. I want to return it but we’ve lost some of the accessories it came with so I don’t know if I can.
