A very nosey question but if you receive a bonus in work what is your job and how much is your bonus?

I work in retail so I never get bonus- it's not a thing for shop floor staff I don't believe

I did once. Got 23p.

Edit: This was in the last 20 years. Although I doubt that 23p was a big bonus anytime in the last 100 years.

RachelCarew · 29/12/2024 20:18

No, public sector. I used to get £20-25k annually doing the same job in the corporate sector.

WhimsicalGubbins76 · 29/12/2024 20:20

Yes I get a bonus, every new tax year-I work in retail banking. I won’t say how much I get on average, because that’s not who I am.
I will say I worked in supermarket retail 20 years ago, I was a department manager, and we used to get bonus’ although they were a bit shit 🤣 they saved the decent bonus for the store manager

Spaghetticonfetti · 29/12/2024 20:22

My husband is private sector and gets a good wage but very good bonus (usually 150% his salary). In January, he should be looking at a £45k bonus for this quarter, with normal monthly wage on top. Im NHS so I don’t get a bonus, but we do get biscuits brought in by other clinicians, so I guess that’s a nice bonus!

Oh my gosh. That's incredible. Are you very senior?

Yes - work in corporate finance - bonus is usually 50-80% of base pay.

MaybeMrs · 29/12/2024 20:23

My OH gets a 22% bonus. Should be about £14k. I get £500 haha.

RachelCarew · 29/12/2024 20:24

Yes, I’m in a senior role.

thefedupdunlop · 29/12/2024 20:24

That's unbelievable! I knew I was in the wrong line of work. I can't imagine having all that extra money

Yes, usually between £15k and £22k based on personal and business performance, plus a salary increase (usually around £6-8k per annum).

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 29/12/2024 20:26

Yes admin support in finance- last job was c 25% but newish job is c.12% but the base was higher

LittleRedRidingHoody · 29/12/2024 20:27

I work in Finance/Tech for a startup in a pretty senior role, and get a bonus that has worked out about 150% of my annual salary - sounds out of this world amazing but in reality it's not at all guaranteed and my base salary would be far higher if I worked elsewhere. It's a tradeoff for the risk in working for a company that could easily go bust!

@WhimsicalGubbins76 this sounds familiar - I used to work in retail management and got something like 6% and we were all made to feel grateful and unworthy for that. Every year sitting through the 'I fought so hard to get this for you!' From the area manager taking home 60%+

blackrabbitwhiterabbit · 29/12/2024 20:27

Teacher here. So, no.

Pinkelefant · 29/12/2024 20:28

I get bonus with December salary so you can say it's Christmas bonus. This year it was £400 (before tax)

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 29/12/2024 20:28

I have a contractural target of 7.5% of salary

thefedupdunlop · 29/12/2024 20:29

Is it fairly standard to get a decent bonus if you're in a private sector senior role?

OP posts:
Irie1980 · 29/12/2024 20:30

15% so about 18k

fivebyfivebuffy · 29/12/2024 20:30

Not a bonus as such but commission
However it is earned for basically just doing my job so.. not hard

Same. Not a penny!

EmTTC2 · 29/12/2024 20:31

Not a penny. Not even a box of biscuits

Mespher · 29/12/2024 20:32

I'm retired now but I worked as lab admin, so not a high up role and got about £1k-£2k

Tequilamockinbird · 29/12/2024 20:33

Yes, I'm in a private sector managerial role and get anywhere between £15k-£20k per year depending on how well my team and the company overall do against our targets. I lose 40% of it to the taxman though.

Depends on which company you're at really. My previous company (privately owned but lots of cash bouncing around) didn't pay anyone a bonus except C-Suite who were on millions already. But they were clear salaries were higher to compensate, so it was almost like a guaranteed bonus paid out every month.

thefedupdunlop · 29/12/2024 20:36

It's must be so exciting knowing you're getting handed a load of cash on top of your wages. I can just about cover my rent lol good on you all though, you've all worked hard to get where you are so fair play

I receive a bonus that pays for the family holiday each year. It's linked to performance so varies in amount
