Washing machine has just died. What are the brands to look at/ avoid?

Probably looking at mid range (or higher if I get lucky in the sales). Definitely don’t mind cheaper if it works!

Ideally A rating etc and 8kg + capacity.

Just wondering what brands to look into.

I had a Siemens and was going to avoid Bosch (can’t remember why), but have discovered that they make these machines in the same factory…

What's wrong with the old one? Sometimes they are pretty trivial to fix.

The Bosch is manufactured in Spain and the Miele in Poland - so neither of the German ones are manufactured in Germany.

Different models are made in different factories in different countries. Sometimes this is reflected in the price (cheaper models made in countries with cheaper labour costs) sometimes not.

a washing machine engineer once told my mum that in his opinion, there isn't much point in spending a lot of money on a washing machine and just save that difference to put to a new one as they aren't built to last.

This is my strategy now - I get one for around £250 and reckon on getting a max of 5 years out of it. And I say this as someone who just finally replaced a Bosch fridge after 25 years so I am usually a proponent of buy well and run into the ground but I can’t deal with not having a washing machine while waiting for it to get repaired!

Avoid Hisense, I bought one because it was cheap but it definitely was not cheerful. After about 19 months it started making a grinding noise so I called the repair man. He discovered what was wrong with it (I can't remember what) but the part could only be ordered from France and cost £200 so I just bought a new machine instead.

I get through a lot of washing machines and have worked through many brands (4DS’s still at home🤔). I try to go for cheapest, largest load, fastest spin available with longest guarantee. The latest one is Haier purchased from John Lewis, it’s holding up well with the daily hammering from jeans, towels and sheepskin numnahs for the horse (DH doesn’t know about this 😁). If it lasts 5 years I’m happy🤷‍♀️

Look in to Haier.
I hadn't heard of them until our previous washer repair guy recommended then.
We have had ours for over two years now and I love it!
It's so quiet compared to any other we have had.
