Washing machine has just died. What are the brands to look at/ avoid?

Probably looking at mid range (or higher if I get lucky in the sales). Definitely don’t mind cheaper if it works!

Ideally A rating etc and 8kg + capacity.

Just wondering what brands to look into.

I had a Siemens and was going to avoid Bosch (can’t remember why), but have discovered that they make these machines in the same factory…

Our Samsung lasted just under five years. We replaced it with a Beko, which we’d still have, except we moved to a new house with one installed. Still have other Beko appliances though.

We've just got a Samsung eco bubble.Very good and plays a lively tune when the cycle has finished 😊

almost 10 years in with my Samsung too. Would definitely buy again as long as it's still within my budget. wonder how much they for these days?

Toriiaa · 29/12/2024 12:34

We always had Bosch, but we couldn't get a matching tumble dryer set. So I went for a 12kg Beko, never had Beko before but i wouldn't go back now.

Feellikeafailurenow · 29/12/2024 12:34

Miele. Finally worked my way up to one after years of cheaper brands (i’m unlucky with white goods - prob as have them on constantly) out of the “cheaper” brands bosch then beko. Avoid Samsung especially as their customer service is shocking even when under warranty (& i know numerous people who have had similar issues to me)

YourWinter · 29/12/2024 12:37

I loved my old Siemens, which was preceded by two reasonably good Bosch machines, earlier one much better than the more recent one.

I bought a Beko in April and it’s absolute rubbish. The 1400 spin leaves everything much wetter than the 1200 did on the Siemens and Bosch. It recalibrates the time on a cotton wash after half an hour, and always adds an hour to the already long programme (only on the cottons setting, so I don’t use it). The water intake and draining is incredibly noisy compared to every other brand I’ve used - over the years I’ve had Hotpoint and Hoover (both awful), Zanussi (good), AEG (useless in a hard water area, said the engineer on his fourth call-out in the first year), and my MIL’s cast-off Indesit, which left black marks on everything. I’ll only have Siemens in future.

Chocolateorange01 · 29/12/2024 12:37

My 9kg Hotpoint is 19 years old and it's getting noisy whilst spinning so I think it's dying so I'm reading with interest as I think I'll need a new machine in the next year.

I hate my Beko washer dryer so much. 4 repairs in 15 months.

martinisforeveryone · 29/12/2024 12:47

I have a 27 year old Miele washer-dryer that looks the same as when it was new and hasn't ever had an engineer out to it. It was extremely expensive at the time, but has survived four house moves. That's impressive by anyone's standards, but as per a pp, I'm not sure they still build to the same standards now.

I would consider another one, but just the washing machine for the bigger load, or I'd be looking at LG, who I've found extremely good across product ranges, all dependent upon price and guarantee available.

Didntask · 29/12/2024 11:10

I've stuck with LG for years. I have one of their Direct Drive 10.5kg washers, love it. Especially after my son threw up over my superking quilt last night. 😒

Sorry to hear about son. Hope its not a bug. But interested to hear that a 10.5 machine will fit a king size duvet. My newish little girl cat wees on my duvet if she gets stressed. It's getting expensive at the launderette.

KnittedCardi · 29/12/2024 12:57

Bosch or Miele. To say not to spend the extra, and just throw away, is rubbish advice. I've had all my appliances for 20+ years, still going strong. Have had a couple of parts replaced at minimal cost.

RuthW · 29/12/2024 12:59

Always had Beko. I find them really good

BashfulClam · 29/12/2024 13:04

I had a candy that lasted 15+years before taking my clothes hostage. Have a candy again and 8 years in its still going strong (I hope I haven’t jinxed it).

1457bloom · 29/12/2024 13:06

Vey happy with Bosch

LittleLlama · 29/12/2024 13:10

We have a Bosch and although it broke down after eight years we had it fixed (£45) and it is still going strong. We use the washing machine everyday. Have you looked at getting your machine fixed?

Moglet4 · 29/12/2024 13:11

Mine died last week and I was unequivocally told by two engineers to get a Bosch (which I now have). They’ve reduced their range - it’s going down to 12 machines from about 55 - and are offering 5 year guarantees in parts and labour.

TheOliveFinch · 29/12/2024 13:12

I’ve had Bosch ,Miele and Siemens over the last 35 years all have lasted for years and been very reliable

My 10kg washer does a super king duvet so I’m sure you’d be fine

HollyBerry873 · 29/12/2024 13:14

My Bosch is 11 years old and still going strong. Very happy with it.

Chrysanthemum5 · 29/12/2024 13:18

Definitely avoid Samsung and AO I had one recently and it basically didn't work from day one the flooded my kitchen. I was stuck between AO and Samsung with neither taking responsibility and in the end went back to John Lewis and my old AEG brand.

Mamamiapia · 29/12/2024 13:20

I have had AEG appliances for 10 years - washing machine, dishwasher and vented tumble dryer (13 years). Never had am issue and we are a family of 4 so used a lot. Would not go for anything else.

slipperypenguin · 29/12/2024 13:21

Our Samsung cobble just lasted over 2 years - literally as the warranty ran out. The engineer we had out to fix it twice said they were notorious and suggested to avoid

MagnoliaTreeBlossom · 29/12/2024 13:23

I've got an AEG 9kg so a little smaller than you're looking for but I'd recommend the brand.

Great range of cycles and the quiet wash technology is brilliant. It is great for early morning or late washes as you don't hear it but it does have a loud end of cycle alert.

Great results from all cycles from the short wash of 20 mins for delicate items or very light loads to the sportswear 2½ hour wash. Is

It's almost 15 years old and if in time it needs replaced, I'd definitely buy another.

OrlandointheWilderness · 29/12/2024 13:25

Our candy one is brilliant.

tobee · 29/12/2024 13:33

I like my Samsung Ecobubble. It has a WiFi connection which is useful to let you know when the programme is finished and I can then quickly stick another load on as we tend to wash in batches.

Baboutheocelot · 29/12/2024 13:39

I also have a Samsung ecobubble, it’s 11 years old. We live in a hard water area as well, so I can’t believe it’s lasted so long.
