...have I heard the terms "norks", "tinkly laugh", "naice" bread/ham/area, CF (Cheeky Fucker), LTB (Leave the Bastard) and "get your ducks in a row" (when leaving the bastard!)

What are your 'Only on MN' things?

Oh Oh the supermarket conveyer belt divider game!!

Haven’t played in ages 😂

Sounds interesting!
How does one play?
Is it a dying art now that we all self scan our shopping?

Maybe, I get a lot of deliveries so am sure that’s doing it’s bit.

And I just had a really disheartening realisation that it used to be fun to do ‘spot the fellow Mner’ in the wild but now I’d have a worry it would out someone to trolls, stalkers or vexatious personages.

You can’t even tell who’s a real owl these days….

Is this a reverse?

ChilliMania · 07/01/2025 23:29

@RaraRachael It's weird but I've spotted two people I know on here. Not from the things that they write about, but from the language and tone of their posts.

I name change every month.

BrightonFrock · 07/01/2025 23:51

People saying “There are two sides to every story” on a contentious thread, as if this is some incredible piece of insight, rather than the most trite old meaningless cliche going.

They only say that when it's a man posting.

cackleandpop · 08/01/2025 06:39

"His reaction will tell you everything".

I see this so often on here, Personally when I've been dealing with a liar, their reactions to questions have been confusing as hell. Sometimes they don't react at all.

I always wonder what an incredibly clear cut, obvious reaction to solve whatever mystery an OP is dealing with would look like. This never seems to be explained though.

RaraRachael · 08/01/2025 11:55

The fact that some posters find it impossible to believe that people have regional accents and that they're pronouncing words differently, not wrongly

Funnywonder · 08/01/2025 15:58

Irrelevancies/derailing. A poster will say something like 'Oh shit help. I dropped DH's favourite Christmas decoration this afternoon while I was taking down the tree and it's broken. He'll be devastated as he's had it since he was a child. Any idea if this can be mended? Photo attached'.

Replies will contain variations of these:

Why are you only taking your decorations down now?
Why is your DH not helping? LTB.
It's really fucking ugly. Who would hang that on their tree?
I would get the total ick if DH got upset over a decoration.
Your DH sounds very controlling.
Why are you posting in AIBU?

"Naice" has always been around as a snobbish term used to identify someone as pretending to be posher than they are. "Their house is "naice""

I thought the mumsnet use of 'naice' was to do with a shopping list someone found with 'naice' ham on it. I may be wildly misremembering though.

Foxingday · 08/01/2025 16:08

My one for only on Mumset is the total lack of nuance from some posters, everything has to black or white.

You remember correctly

Naice is a pet hate word of mine on here. Perhaps I have no humour (or stopped finding it amusing long ago).
Ick is another .

Those threads are ridiculous, its not 1971 and the first forrin shop has come to the UK. Be like a normal person and go and buy food you think you might like, what's the worst that would happen 😂

I name changed last week.

SquawkerTexasRanger · 08/01/2025 22:00

The obsession with class. I’m not from the UK and those threads fascinate me

Oh Jesus, that’s actually a very me thing to say. Must name change now

What does that mean @SquawkerTexasRanger ?

That's an Irish one @SushiSheep! I think @SquawkerTexasRanger is calling into question the veracity of the quoted poster's claim😅

Oh really?
So is it the equivalent of the Scottish "Did ye, aye?" 😂

OP posts:
InMySpareTime · 09/01/2025 15:51

I read it in a Derry accent, not sure if that's where it’s from though.

Yes! That sounds about right😅

BlackBranches · 09/01/2025 16:07

I've never understood how "naice" is supposed to be pronounced differently to "nice". Anyone care to enlighten (enlaighten?) me?

BlackBranches · 09/01/2025 16:08

"Rurally". Never heard anyone outside of MN say they "live rurally". Don't think I had ever even seen it as an adverb.
