I’m trying not to give any spoilers but I did really enjoy Christmas episode. I’ve just watched it now however I want to know has anybody ever been to a wedding where people have stood up and said that person can’t marry that person because is that just something that happens in films or does it ever happen in real life?

My mum is a Vicar. She says if anyone says anything during the 'speak now or forever hold your peace' bit, then it all stops and the bride, groom: and whoever spoke up needs do go and have a chat with her about it in the vestry. My Mum has refused to carry on with the Wedding on 4 occasions

However whoever speaks up is responsible for Paying for the wedding, Whether they go ahead after the interruption or not

"However whoever speaks up is responsible for Paying for the wedding, Whether they go ahead after the interruption or not"

since when does that happen as its not common knowledge otherwise if someone is having an eg affair etc then the messager basically gets pickled ?

Soiltypes · 28/12/2024 02:33

because i didnt realise it had to be legal, besides would you really want to stand by and watch a friend get married knowing one of them was having an affair ?

just researched it seems it does have to be a legal reason, that said im sure if someone did mention an affair it would soon be holy trinity for the wedding

Edited

Wouldn't you tell them before it got to that stage?

morally yes, but there have been cases where some people either one of the couple due to get married wait until the wedding to then embarrass their other half due to them having an affair etc

That’s an expensive way of embarrassing someone

FannyCradocksDoughnut · 28/12/2024 02:43

It happens in the book Jane Eyre

An objector doesn't have to pay for the wedding.

Because Rochester is still married to his wife, Bertha Mason.

I hope this doesn't spoil things for anyone who may not yet have watched Wallace and Gomit, but I have to tell someone.

They are not real people at all, but made of PLASTICINE...😱

What? This cannot be true. Absolutely no way. I live and learn.

Did Mr Burns shoot JR?

nah, he'd have been smarter and got someone else to do it

I expect people to put spoiler alert. It's two days over Xmas! Have some manners. I am sitting in a hospital with a sick relation and keeping my head going and there's smart Alecs going on.

Spoiler alerts are basic common sense and courtesy!

Then it seems you have more to worry about than spoiler alerts about G&S!

Pumpkincozynights · 28/12/2024 08:12

I had a friend who called off her wedding. I’d say around 6,weeks before the wedding date. It was absolutely the right decision. She went on to meet her current dh and they have been married for many years.
It is true that it has to be a valid legal objection and not just that you think the couple are unsuitable for example.

Yesit does but very rarely. It happened 17yrs ago with a friend of mine. Not like in having and Stacey though. My friend got to the alter and then called it off. Very embarrassing for everyone

Why embarrassing for anyone? Certainly no guest had the right to be embarrassed
Surely better than gossiping about the divorce later.

I wish someone had at my first wedding.

Me too!

ForeveraBluebird · 28/12/2024 08:54

The wedding scene in The Graduate was one way to stop the service.

All the thread title spoils is the fact there's a wedding. Doesn't say whos or what the outcome is but really it's been everywhere the past few days. I've never watched it but I know what happened there's been so much online.

How long after airing does something need a spoiler alert though??

Well, The Mousetrap has been running for decades, everyone knows whodunnit, yet at every performance, they ask the audience not to reveal the murderer outside the theatre

It’s just a tv show. Why are people so annoyed by something so silly.

The thing is, it’s all over the news media anyway because I’ve just googled and the mirror article came up so how do you avoid it when it’s all over the Internet?

That's fine but there's no point saying you're trying to avoid spoilers when you're putting a massive spoiler in it
