I’m trying not to give any spoilers but I did really enjoy Christmas episode. I’ve just watched it now however I want to know has anybody ever been to a wedding where people have stood up and said that person can’t marry that person because is that just something that happens in films or does it ever happen in real life?

You have plenty of time to moan on this thread though 😉

Well yea because I am sitting at the bed of a relative who is sick and sleeping in hospital so yes I do. Honestly do you have the capacity to think?

elliejjtiny · 28/12/2024 00:01

I've only seen it happen on tv. My favourite was the lady in the vicar of dibley who came in raging that the groom was still married to her but it turned out she was at the wrong wedding!

I'm assuming it does happen occasionally in real life but I have never seen it happen.

I know a Vicar to whom it happened - once.
A man stood up and the Congregation froze. The vicar simply asked him what he wanted and the man asked if they loved each other. He was told that they did and said ‘Well, that’s all right then’ And sat down again.
Absolutely hair raising for everyone

doodleschnoodle · 28/12/2024 00:12

I'm sure it does happen occasionally, there are some really dysfunctional people and families who get married. At 'normal' weddings I think it's very unlikely. Never happened at any I've been a guest at, more's the pity Grin

CamillaCanterbaum · 28/12/2024 00:19

The objections are only if it's a legal reason! Like they are already married to other people/brother and sister/impersonating someone etc. The idea of "it just doesn't seem like your a good fit" isn't good enough to stop a wedding!!!

It's Christmas some of us haven't had time to watch a programme! Honestly I expect a spoiler alert in title so we can avoid . It isn't rocket science!

It's been 2 days. It's up to you to avoid anything gavin and Stacey titled, you surely can't expect spoiler alerts.

Abbyk1980 · 28/12/2024 00:34

I am very sorry

I expect people to put spoiler alert. It's two days over Xmas! Have some manners. I am sitting in a hospital with a sick relation and keeping my head going and there's smart Alecs going on.

Spoiler alerts are basic common sense and courtesy!

pizzaHeart · 28/12/2024 00:40

I never heard anything like this in real life but I bet quite a few of people I know wouldn’t mind it if they could go back.

I agree, and I haven't watched it yet either and wouldn't consider OP's title a spoiler, we would need much more information for that. Some people must lead very dull lives if this is enough to upset them!

If you don't want to know, don't click on threads mentioning gavin and Stacey 2 days after it aired

Soonenough · 28/12/2024 00:44

They are always doing it in EastEnders.

You have nothing to apologise for OP, some people are just dicks, MN seems to attract them.

Enough4me · 28/12/2024 00:47

I went to one where a dog (brides ring bearer) started barking setting a baby howling at that point. Everyone laughed, the dog didn't know anything, of course.
