Come and tell me about your love of "Lush"

So I was out for a Boxing Day run this morning (madness many of you may think) but not as mad I thought as the folk queuing outside Lush in the city centre waiting for the doors to open and the sale to start.

Please, what am I misssing out on? I've never shopped at Lush! TIA

I get thrush just walking past Lush 😬…l like some of their products but mainly the unscented face cream and the CBD bubble bar, the rest just brings my eczema up or causes thrush.

Hskatkat · 26/12/2024 16:45

Yankee candles are an "upgrade"?
They sell them in card shops what are they an "upgrade" from @Katypp ?

Gem359 · 26/12/2024 16:48

My friend gave me some once for Christmas, even through the box and the wrapping paper it stank so much I had to keep it in a cupboard rather than under the tree. I opened it, and binned it as I couldn't stand the smell and i didn't think anyone would want a box of second hand bath bombs - but in hind sight I probably should have given it to the charity shop.

CraftyNavySeal · 26/12/2024 16:50

I used to like Ultrabland for getting makeup off but then cleansing balms/oils became a thing so I never bothered buying anymore. Same with the shampoo bars.

Yep, i rest my case. Because there are no candles anywhere cheaper than Yankee.

Longma · 26/12/2024 16:54

I have tried many brands and types of solid shampoo and conditioner over several years.

I've now settled on Lush 'Honey I've shampooed the Kids' and their Big conditioner.

Dd likes their bath bombs.

Longma · 26/12/2024 16:55

Hskatkat · 26/12/2024 15:19

It's nothing special, it has extremely pushy staff who have extremely pushy managers.
It's over priced
The company has some "interesting" ideas feel free to search this

Our local one doesn't have pushy staff at all.

Longma · 26/12/2024 16:56

Hskatkat · 26/12/2024 16:01

@Squeezetheday try the shampoo bars in home bargains /B&M they are either 79/99p they are great! Better than most the others I've tried

If the Ines I was advised to use previously - they made my hair feel awful. I threw them away.

Hskatkat · 26/12/2024 17:00

@Longma ppl have different hair types, they are cheap enough to try and not like , it was a suggestion not a command.
Lush encourage their staff to be persistent & 'friendly' in the sales approach its pretty well known for its overly enthusiastic sales staff.
I'm not the first person ever to mention this.

CandyCane5 · 26/12/2024 17:02

Lead up to Christmas time and the sale after is the only time our Lush seems to be busy

YouMeandBrie · 26/12/2024 17:02

They’re political f*ckwits who support sending chest binders to children and want to defund the police so I tend to avoid them like the plague personally.

fuzzychic · 26/12/2024 17:05

They did something with chest binding and that pissed a lot of people off. I liked some of their older products but the newer stuff isn't as nice imo.

doodleschnoodle · 26/12/2024 17:07

I like their stuff. DD1 loves going in and looking at all the bath bombs. They gave her a free one last time she was in, which she was delighted about! I don't feel really strongly either way about it tbh. They have some nice stuff and their shops are really colourful so I understand why people like them.

Superworm24 · 26/12/2024 17:08

I used to shop there for almost all my toiletries. I thought they were an amazing company, ethical, sustainable, treated their staff well... and then I joined a sub reddit hoping to find out some information about future releases. And I instead found out the company wasn't really what it seemed. After a bit of googling I never shopped there again.

ClicketyClickPlusOne · 26/12/2024 17:08

Are you sure they were queuing rather than paralysed by the fumes?

SwirlyShirly · 26/12/2024 17:09

I quite like their purple shampoo, and the vodka face scrub, and occasionally the snow fairy stuff but it's too pricey to buy regularly.

BoundaryGirl3939 · 26/12/2024 17:09

Their Wasabi and caffeine shampoo is probably the best I've ever used. I'm not into their other products but some of it is good.

lillylallylu · 26/12/2024 17:11

went in one recently in Westfield and it had the pushiest sales guy ever. Put me right off and we just walked out. I do like some of their stuff, but it's totally overpriced and over scented.
I call it Thrush not Lush!

EliCopter · 26/12/2024 17:13

ErrolTheDragon · 26/12/2024 16:15

Likewise. Nasty smell, and some very nasty policies in the past (don't know if they're still as bad ... I'd say I wouldn't hold my breath but I literally have to when passing their shops.)

I feel the same on both counts - would never shop there

ErrolTheDragon · 26/12/2024 17:15

SmokeRingsOfMyMind · 26/12/2024 16:34

This thread will attract the same weird competitive types as any mention of polyester - people desperately trying to demonstrate that they are so sensitive and refined that they can't be in the same postcode as a scented soap/ artificial fibre/ processed ingredient/ (insert your preferred declasse reference here).

I'm perfectly happy with polyester and scents in general. 🤷‍♀️

NannyR · 26/12/2024 17:16

I used to love it, maybe 20 years ago. They used to make some really nice products - Skinny Dip shower gel and Forever in Bloom shampoo spring to mind. But they discontinued them and started to do gimmicky but impractical stuff like frozen shower gel and tubs of shampoo with salt in it for example. I continued buying the soap bars for a while but they became too expensive.

Luckydin · 26/12/2024 17:22

I used lush a lot when ds was a soap dodging young one. He could be tempted into a bath with a colour changing bath bomb or bubble bar.

Cynic17 · 26/12/2024 17:23

It stinks in a truly vile way. Even walking past a shop is unpleasant, so I can't imagine how awful it is to have in the house.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 26/12/2024 17:26

@Sinkintotheswamp its a reincarnation, their first attempt ended in bankruptcy

sweetydahling · 26/12/2024 17:28

They want to destroy girls' bodies, what's to like about them?
