The Christmas tree is down!

Just taken down the main living room tree, absolute workout getting it back in the box and as usual I found a couple of stars once I'd packed away the decorations.

Trying to get all the trees down today so I can deep clean the house before New Years.

Anyone else just want their space back and taking decorations down today?

Nope. Tree is needed for Hogmanay.

I'll vote for you too, but only if this includes no mention of Christmas before 1st December 😁

Agreed. But with the amendment that it is nothing mentioned (or available in the shops) until the first day of Advent specifically rather than 1 December.

And Advent calendars will be required to actually cover Advent, not be 1-25 December calendars.

How boring are you!
what do you do with your time? This is the lovely, relaxing bit of Xmas. Who wants to be cleaning?? Weird. Just weird!

No, because

a) It is still Christmas
b) It only went up mid December

I prefer to keep Christmas to Christmas, so our Christmas decorations go up at Christmas and not several weeks before.

I usually take it down on New Year's day.

Ours has been up for roughly 7 weeks😂

But why?

Dolly2288 · 26/12/2024 13:31

Mines down and boxed away. Too many arguments this time of year, brings me nothing but misery

excelledyourself · 26/12/2024 13:31

No. I love having the tree up. Would have it up all year round if I could get away with it. I keep other lights up all year, but it's not the same.

Parker231 · 26/12/2024 13:31

What this thread has shown (same every year) how intolerant some people are that others follow different traditions and if they want to take their tree down on Boxing Day, there is nothing wrong with that.
Acceptance of different ways is obviously not a positive characteristic of some on this thread. No wonder the country is in such a mess.

Christmas is over after Christmas Day

That’s just not true though. There are 12 days of Christmas, 6th January is the last day of Christmas and in other countries this is often also a special day (Ireland 6th of January is known as Women's Christmas, in Spain it is Three Kings Day).

Take your tree down when you want, it’s up to you but Christmas is a season not a day.

Tubs11 · 26/12/2024 13:32

So you put it up in November when it's not Christmas but take it down in December when it is Christmas 😂

Perhaps they are at work?

DataPup · 26/12/2024 13:34

Ours went up on Monday, the advantage of this approach is the trees were free as the garden centres are giving them away by the time it gets to the 23rd 😁

Xag · 26/12/2024 13:34

Today is only the second of the Twelve Days of celebration.

Cutting a celebration short always seems a bit miserable - unless it's to make way for a different celebration (such as a birthday before Twelfth Night/Epiphany)

Lucyaugust2007 · 26/12/2024 13:34

Not today, but don't know how much longer I can resist afterwards.
I find it depressing after the 25th and it hasn't been the best of Christmases this year.
In some ways I just want a fresh start now.
Treated myself to some dried flowers and a new canvas painting to brighten things up a bit when Christmas comes down as it always looks so bare and empty to begin with.

fridaynight1 · 26/12/2024 13:34

Blimey, I only put mine up on Saturday . I’m in for the full twelfth night before it comes down.

housethatbuiltme · 26/12/2024 13:34

People saying they don't care about the nativity story, not religious etc... (yet celebrate advent?) OK but even without that its always been the 6th for winter festivals (the 6th or December and the 6th of January). From wassailing to first footing all of the UK/British isles had some form of 12th night celebration on the 6th January its not uniquely christian.

The nativity was added later to the the biblical story to fit into the pre-existing winter traditions not the other way (thats why Jesus was 'born' full of angels and virgin births then it skips 30 years to follow a man who was seemingly just a normal person spreading the word of peace and love).

Cocolapew · 26/12/2024 13:35

Mines down, I love it up in the run up to Christmas but once Christmas Day is done I couldn't care any more. I put it up early because I like it not because of influencers on social media.
I always have fairy lights over the mantle so there's still a twinkle.

Some people work. DH was in Monday and in tomorrow. He's got a few days off next week but is on call.

The world doesn't stop moving just because it's Christmas week. And for those services that carry on, people go to work.

DeanElderberry · 26/12/2024 13:35

Today is the FIRST day of Christmas. The high Christmas season is two weeks long: Christmas Eve, Christmas day, and the twelve days starting today and culminating in Little Christmas, the Feast of the Epiphany, January 6th. Taking anything down before January 7th is deeply inauspicious. And although people go back to work after that, the Christmas season continues until Candlemas, February 7th.

BloodyHellBob · 26/12/2024 13:35

housethatbuiltme · 26/12/2024 13:06

Christmas JUST started, it doesn't end for another 11 days.

Jesus has popped out of Mary but the 3 kings haven't even set off yet lol.

😂 brilliant!!

We keep ours up until the New Year, I like the twinkling lights and glitter!

SerafinasGoose · 26/12/2024 13:36

We love ours and would like to enjoy it for a little longer.

They go up the first weekend in December. We always spend New Year's Eve away with friends, so they will come down on Monday so that this task is done before we arrive home to a newly cleaned and tidied house.

As a point of personal preference I don't like to see ours still up in January. When it's over, it's over.

Fabulouslyunfabulous · 26/12/2024 13:37

The only time ours has come down this early is because the cat took it down!

Whatever floats your boat op. Hope you have had a good Christmas.

Ours didn’t go up until the 20th so we are still enjoying it until the needles shed then it will come down.

ExquisiteSocialSkills · 26/12/2024 13:37

No. The tree went up on the 15th of December and comes down on the 2nd of January.

Seasidesand76 · 26/12/2024 13:37

Mine is down! We put it up on the first weekend of December so it's been up long enough. My birthday is tomorrow so we've always taken it down on Boxing Day. We have a little tradition of taking it down and having hot chocolate, cheese and crackers after.

2025willbemytime · 26/12/2024 13:38

Mine is going in the bin or I'll leave it for the next house owners. But it's not coming down until my DD comes home for second Christmas next month.
