The Christmas tree is down!

Just taken down the main living room tree, absolute workout getting it back in the box and as usual I found a couple of stars once I'd packed away the decorations.

Trying to get all the trees down today so I can deep clean the house before New Years.

Anyone else just want their space back and taking decorations down today?

No. I love the decorations up.
Everywhere looks so cosy and jolly

I came onto this thread thinking your tree had fallen down OP

Nope, mine goes up on the 1st and it all comes down before the 1st as well.
I like to get my full months worth out of christmas.

Ours has been up for roughly 7 weeks😂

Christmas is over after Christmas Day

There’s the wise men and this is part of Christmas.

Heavens no. Husband back to his old argumentative ways. We got a day off yesterday. Need all the hoho I can get

Madness. The two turtle doves are only on their way today. You've got ages till the drummers start drumming.

Will be illegal when I become a petty dictator of the world.

Hopefully it'll also be illegal to put it up before the first day then?

Not something we believe in

Movinghouseatlast · 26/12/2024 13:24

No, I like Christmas so the tree and decorations stay up until Twelfth Night.

coolkatt · 26/12/2024 13:24

Waiting for the clan to head to football then mine coming right down, house is a disaster, need it back to normal

Mylittlebobble · 26/12/2024 13:24

I've realised I've put mine up too early this year (end of November) I've been ready to take them down for a few days, so I think I can manage about 3 weeks before they start annoying me. I'll hang on a few more days though for the kids to enjoy them a big longer. Next year though, I'll wait until beginning of December.

DappledThings · 26/12/2024 13:25

IpsyUpsyDaisyDoos · 26/12/2024 13:23

Ideally. But I will compromise with the first day of Advent. Because I'm benevolent as well as petty. I do mean the first day of Advent though, not 1 December.

Just saying because you said that Christmas was over when it isn’t over - belief or not. If it’s for Father Christmas then yes he’s been and gone.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 26/12/2024 13:26

CasuirDubh · 26/12/2024 12:45

No. Today is only the second day of Christmas.

This. Mine only went up on Saturday and will stay up till 12th night.

Growlybear83 · 26/12/2024 13:26

Why would you take the Christmas tree down on Boxing Day? Surely it's meant to be unlucky to take it down before twelfth night? Boxing Day should be spent eating turkey and chips, turkey sandwiches, watching carry on films, and farting 😆

Mummyboy1 · 26/12/2024 13:26

Mine will go down on the 27th as its my sons birthday the day after. A friend of mine has already taken hers down this morning.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 26/12/2024 13:26

Redmat · 26/12/2024 13:07

Trees never used to go up until mid December and then stayed until 6th Jan. It's only in the last 15 years or so we've had them going up in November and being torn down when Christmas has barely started. Ridiculous to take it down today !

Edited

I still do it your way. I think it's social media that has made people put their decorations up earlier and earlier.

The influencers on social media platforms do it after Halloween because it means they can maximise their income over the festive season. They can push as many Christmas-related adverts, products and services (both declared and undeclared) as possible, within the timeframe. Come Boxing Day, thoughts are turning to how to profit from the January, "New Year, New Me" wellness trends. Grotesque really.

Ours have been up since November 10th, not sick of them, I absolutely adore Christmas however I need to have everything down and the house cleaned top to bottom for New Years eve.

I'm working between 29th - 1st so won't be able to do it then, have family visiting tomorrow so unlikely to have time & i have 5 Christmas trees to take down. Plus I'll be swapping from Christmas to a few wintery decorations.

But why would you put Christmas trees up 7 weeks(!) before Christmas only to take them down at Christmas?

Justlovedogs · 26/12/2024 13:26

Abracadabra12345 · 26/12/2024 12:49

I'll vote for you!

I'll vote for you too, but only if this includes no mention of Christmas before 1st December 😁

ILikeMySuitcase · 26/12/2024 13:22

Ours has been up for roughly 7 weeks😂

But why?

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 26/12/2024 13:27

Totally wrong. Tree is supposed to stay up until twelfth night.

DappledThings · 26/12/2024 13:25

Ideally. But I will compromise with the first day of Advent. Because I'm benevolent as well as petty. I do mean the first day of Advent though, not 1 December.

I have a three year old who was absolutely desperate to have the tree up so I caved on the 1st December. Pre child though, neither DH or I wanted it up before the weekend before Christmas Day.

I'd take it down today if it wouldn't devastate DD. Want my space back and to vacuum behind it!!

PumpkinSly · 26/12/2024 13:28

Crikey, no! To each their own but I'd find it incredibly depressing if someone took down my decorations on boxing day. Mine will be up for new years, then anything after the 2nd is fair game. Boxing day is for going for a walk, chilling out in pjs, watch shite on TV, and eating cheese, chocolate, and left over stuffing.

user87349287657 · 26/12/2024 13:28

We take ours down after new year. They usually get put up mid December- ish.
I’d imagine if they went up early December id be keen to take them down though!

itsgettingweird · 26/12/2024 13:28

Nope.

Mine will all come down over Monday and Tuesday whilst ds is at work and I'll have a deep clean then.

I'm off until 6th Jan.

Had a tidy up and doing washing today though whilst also watching Black Dove and eating crap.

Ds back to training tomorrow so we are up at 5am and then watching my nephew in the panto in the evening.
Training Saturday morning and then shall just flit around the house until Monday 5am!!!

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 26/12/2024 13:29

We only finished putting up the decorations yesterday!

ObtuseMoose · 26/12/2024 13:29

I had ours down as soon as the last sprout was swallowed yesterday!
