The Christmas tree is down!

Just taken down the main living room tree, absolute workout getting it back in the box and as usual I found a couple of stars once I'd packed away the decorations.

Trying to get all the trees down today so I can deep clean the house before New Years.

Anyone else just want their space back and taking decorations down today?

Why even bother putting it up in the first place? It’s only Boxing Day. A day to chill and enjoy the lights.

Tel12 · 26/12/2024 12:53

No! It's not 12th night

Glenthebattleostrich · 26/12/2024 12:54

Mine goes up 1st December and down New Years Eve. Before then is just madness, the house is so pretty with the twinkly things.

Omg no way, Jan 6th as normal. You're obviously not religious and have a manky house 😂 why even put it up ? You could have saved yourself all that by not bothering with it.

But...but...Christmas only started yesterday! I'm enjoying the twelve days of Christmas and then I'll take the tree down!

Mines coming down at the weekend and I give no shits that some random on the internet will do a sad face.

Lolypoly14 · 26/12/2024 12:57

No, it’s still Christmas

It doesn’t stay up for the full 12 days, but it’s not coming down yet.

We’re having a party on New Year’s Eve so will probably take it down for then. It’s kind of in the way and we’ll have a houseful

A manky house?! Wtf? Are YOU religious? Surely not because that comment isn't very Christian

For many of us the Christmas season is the period leading up to Christmas Day and not after. We don’t follow the 12 days of Christmas etc

TeenLifeMum · 26/12/2024 12:58

Nope, today is relaxing and eating. I’m not ready to lose the twinkling lights. They’ll go down Saturday after next.

gingercat02 · 26/12/2024 13:00

These threads make me sad. I leave all my decs up until 12th night. I love Christmas, so string it out as long as possible.

DonnaGiovanna · 26/12/2024 13:00

It's Christmas ffs

Thewrongdoor · 26/12/2024 13:01

No, of course not. Christmas has only just started!

Does anyone have any family holiday resort suggestions? We are travelling at Easter 2025 and have already booked a hotel in Mexico however the reviews are now terrible. I think we still have a few weeks or so to change but looking for any ideas? Ideally somewhere it will be hot. (Mexico, Caribbean, UAE) and a resort with great restaurant options and activities for kids (3-12). We also require rooms to hold 5 people. Budget is 2750pp for 14nights. Help! I’m really worrying that I’ve chosen the wrong hotel and everyone will be annoyed at spending such a lot of money 🙈. It’s for a special family birthday and it needs to be a special resort.

dementedpixie · 26/12/2024 13:01

I only put my tree up last week so I'll leave it up for a few more days

Skint2022 · 26/12/2024 13:02

Oops, sorry did not mean to post here.

Madam - I applaud you!

AngelinaFibres · 26/12/2024 13:04

All the trees and garlands and other decorations come down on NYE so we go into 2025 with a fresh start. Big vase of whatever Spring flowers are available on the table in the kitchen. Happy New Year and off we go into whatever it brings. My adult children's father committed suicide in 2024 so I shall not be sorry to see the back of it all

😂😂 Catholics can ask/say if someone's house is manky.

No - my decorations go up the weekend before. Christmas and stay up until Epiphany

The period leading up to Christmas is Advent, not Christmas itself. Christmas is from Dec 25th - Jan 5th.

Even if people don't adhere to the traditional 12 days, I can't understand the logic of putting a tree up super early only take it down as soon as Christmas day is over.

housethatbuiltme · 26/12/2024 13:06

Christmas JUST started, it doesn't end for another 11 days.

Jesus has popped out of Mary but the 3 kings haven't even set off yet lol.

Angrymum22 · 26/12/2024 13:06

I suppose if it’s been up since the beginning of December then maybe I would take it down. But as a traditionalist ours only goes up a couple of days before Christmas. We used to do the whole trip out to buy and decorate the tree, but then went back to the artificial tree. We didn’t actually put it up this year. DS is all grown up and is more interested in clubbing and visiting friends.
We have had a very recent and devastating bereavement so had no enthusiasm for Christmas. We’ve also stopped all the extravagance and give each other small token gifts and wait until post Christmas to buy something we need when prices are deflated. DH and I need a new tumble dryer and DS wants a new Xbox.
DH prefers to buy me gifts when I see something I want, he has always done this. With DS we have limited Christmas to a budget of around £100 when he was growing up so we could afford to buy things when he actually needed them. Some people assume we spoil him but I’ve never felt the need to explain. They would probably be horrified that we don’t go all out at Christmas and spend £1000s.

Redmat · 26/12/2024 13:07

Trees never used to go up until mid December and then stayed until 6th Jan. It's only in the last 15 years or so we've had them going up in November and being torn down when Christmas has barely started. Ridiculous to take it down today !
