The Christmas tree is down!

ILikeMySuitcase · 26/12/2024 12:42

Just taken down the main living room tree, absolute workout getting it back in the box and as usual I found a couple of stars once I'd packed away the decorations.

Trying to get all the trees down today so I can deep clean the house before New Years.

Anyone else just want their space back and taking decorations down today?

OP posts:
Hadjab · 26/12/2024 13:38

Nope. My decorations will be up for at least another week.

NippyCrab · 26/12/2024 13:39

5 Christmas trees 🌲 ffs, are you living in the Wrighty mansion 😂 surely Boxing day is a relaxing family day too. Relax ffs, enjoy down time, surely cleaning can wait? X

Mine is down! We put it up on the first weekend of December so it's been up long enough. My birthday is tomorrow so we've always taken it down on Boxing Day. We have a little tradition of taking it down and having hot chocolate, cheese and crackers after.

I like that.

We have a few Christmas birthdays, and it is nice to try and separate them.

Our tree fell down during some over enthusiastic dancing last night but is back up agai now
Only put it up at the weekend and it will stay up until 12th night 🎄

Today is only the second of the Twelve Days of celebration.

Cutting a celebration short always seems a bit miserable - unless it's to make way for a different celebration (such as a birthday before Twelfth Night/Epiphany)

Yes, but everyone has their own personal reasons for wanting to take them down sooner.
For me it is not about cutting a celebration sort/ being miserable. I have had a tough Christmas this year and I just want a fresh start.
It doesn't effect anyone else when I take them down (they are still up today).

It's fine to leave them up until the 6th, but it's also fine for those who want to take them down before then.

Ours have been up since November 10th, not sick of them, I absolutely adore Christmas however I need to have everything down and the house cleaned top to bottom for New Years eve.

I'm working between 29th - 1st so won't be able to do it then, have family visiting tomorrow so unlikely to have time & i have 5 Christmas trees to take down. Plus I'll be swapping from Christmas to a few wintery decorations.

Ermmmm. Why the hell did you put it up so early? No wonder you are fed up.

Ours went up a week ago, it will stay up until next weekend. Two weeks are sufficient, and cover the Christmas and New Year.

OfMiceandWomen · 26/12/2024 12:48

Did you put your tree up in November. I think people who put decorations up early must be sick of them by now.

Yes this. I don't understand why people put them up so early.

IVFmumoftwo · 26/12/2024 13:42

Why? What is the point? Why are people quick to put it away when you are meant to keep it up until the Epiphany?

toastedcrumpetsrock · 26/12/2024 13:42

With only 2 days off this year for dh and ds there is no way I'm doing anything other than eating cheese and chocolate today - tree usually comes down the day before school starts back ready for a new term

Melancholyflower · 26/12/2024 13:42

what baffles me more is the shock/horror from other people who can’t grasp that not everyone loves Christmas or gets into the festive spirit.

As the OP has several trees I don't think this applies to her.

Noooo! Boxing Day is the best.

I quite agree ! in fact even though it has no affect on me whatsoever i always feel a bit angry when people on here do this , how bloody miserable.
I just know i would never get on with someone who does this , it's day 2 of CHRISTMAS !!! we're in the bleak mid winter and surely we all could benefit from a bit of glittery sparkle and light, ba humbug !

WonderingAboutThus · 26/12/2024 13:43

Christ no. 6 December - 5 January here.

Why??????? It’s Boxing Day, only the 2nd day of Christmas! Sorry but I don’t understand this, so can you explain why please, I’m interested to know.

Merry Christmas 🎄(Bah humbug)

JennyForeigner · 26/12/2024 13:43

Our decorations are down. I put the tree up three weeks ago. The sparkly gold bits come down and I leave the tree just with lights for a few more days. For me it's a nice part of the Christmas ritual to have a bit where it is pared back and sort of cleaner, and then to look forward from there.

Perhaps they want to?

CautiousLurker01 · 26/12/2024 13:44

Erm, nope. Decs stay up until epiphany/12 night/6th Jan, though we have taken them down a day or two earlier if it’s easier to do on the weekend before that.

Definitely don’t come down on Boxing day. That’s a bit weird…

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 26/12/2024 13:44

Our tree hasn't been out of the attic , it was up Christmas 2019 and 2020 for less than a week but our dear cats decided to re-enact some scene from Indiana Jones and launched themselves into it .
As the tree is next to the TV we had to put Safety First .

<Sad Face>

SophWin · 26/12/2024 13:45

Nope.

This is just the best part of Christmas.
Family will call, I want the house to be beautiful and Christmassy.

Tree newly up ( Christmas Eve), sparkly lights, candles, log burner, Christmas film and loads of food to eat up.
My favourite time of the year, the only chance to ‘get off the world’.

Why is it weird for someone to do something different from you?

NarcoosseeLover · 26/12/2024 13:45

No, mine go up around October half term and come down around February half term. Although we’re away for Feb half term 2025, so I might leave them up until Easter. Who knows. They are no hassle to clean around and so cosy, I enjoy the twinkly lights.

Moonwalkies · 26/12/2024 13:45

Nope, boxing day is a pyjama lazy day here- playing with new toys, catching up on the Christmas specials and eating leftovers and snacks! I'm not a huge fan of christmas decorations though, DS usually is bored of them as well not long after they're up so will take them down at the weekend i expect.

Madness. The two turtle doves are only on their way today. You've got ages till the drummers start drumming.

Will be illegal when I become a petty dictator of the world.

This 😊🎄

For some it is the complete opposite though.
Christmas can feel lonely and overwhelming for all sorts of reasons.

Redmat · 26/12/2024 13:07

Trees never used to go up until mid December and then stayed until 6th Jan. It's only in the last 15 years or so we've had them going up in November and being torn down when Christmas has barely started. Ridiculous to take it down today !

Edited

I agree with this. Those that put their trees and decorations up in November can’t wait to get them down now. I get absolutely fed up of seeing the posts on facebook of people who put their trees up early then start moaning on Xmas eve they can’t wait to take everything down and by Boxing Day they’re posting to say they have taken their decorations and tree down. I just think it kills the Xmas spirit not just for those who have done this but for those who have to look at such posts. It’s the same with shops having Xmas stuff out before the kids have even gone back to school after the summer holidays and then putting Easter eggs on the shelves by Xmas eve! No wonder so many people don’t feel the Xmas spirit anymore.

Grammarnut · 26/12/2024 13:46

I do it after Twelfth Night. My late DH and I kept celebrating Christmas in various ways till then and I will continue. Christmas decorations are appropriate for New Year. And why waste Boxing Day taking down decorations? Eat, drink and eat chocoate!
