I mean ..that's it 😂..
I have put laughing face ...but a few hours ago ...I was not laughing!

Due to be delivered later today.
I was adding bits and realised that it was coming to the " wrong" address .

It was meant to be going straight to DM's house but it was coming to my address instead ..

I wanted to change the address...and somehow clicked something " wrong "

So now ...
I have woken up with a jolt and realised what a mammoth task I have ahead of me today!!!!

Sainsbury's opens at 6am .

Will the shelves be stocked up at that time ?

DH is in hospital with pneumonia. I'm sitting in bed, contemplating whether I need to take the cat to the emergency vets to see if he's got a blocked bladder after keeping me awake all night with scratching (£3000 last month for this!) and I have my shop coming today. I was so tired when I was doing it that I'm not sure what it was like before substitutions, so goodness knows what it will be like after!!

Sallysoup · 23/12/2024 06:25

Good luck, but my local Aldi was no busier than usual at mid day yesterday, you might be surprised. Got 99% of what we need, the only thing I couldn't find was cauliflower!

iloveeverykindofcat · 23/12/2024 06:28

@PigInADuvet I'm on there! Most corgis are greedy and intelligent but this one is neither. He's got social intelligence though, and of course is very very good looking. His Pembroke sister is much more typical.

Seahorsesplendour · 23/12/2024 06:28

Good luck everyone that’s shopping today!! Altho strangely I’d rather be doing that than going to work today if I’m honest and I do enjoy my job!!! 😅

LucyLocketLovesPollyPocket · 23/12/2024 06:40

We found town and the shops strangely quiet yesterday. I did our shop up lidl around 2pm and it was less busy and more stocked than my usual Sunday shop. Even taking the children to the clubs, the roads were strangely quiet.

Good luck op, it might nit be as bad as you think.

HashtagShitShop · 23/12/2024 06:55

If it helps you wouldnt have been able to change the address it was being delivered to after booking it so you might have ended up cancelling anyway. Good luck!

It’s nothing to do with the shops being closed. People do a Christmas food shop for the Christmas period, ie Christmas Eve-new year. I’ve got my shopping in and I have no intention of visiting a supermarket until after NYD.

Lots of people are feeding more than usually live in their households, which obviously requires extra food. Christmas is a time for indulgence which again requires extra food. Lots of fresh food like cheese, cream, extra milk means getting a shop in as close to Christmas as possible. This is why lots of us book a big shop to be delivered. Surely you can understand that.

2-3 taxi loads worth of food? It's what the baby Jesus would have wanted.

Have you never done a shop for more than a day or two? It's pretty common practice to shop for a week or more in one go.

Or learned to read? OP said she'd get a taxi but thought she'd have to do a few trips because it might be too much waiting for the taxi driver for the loading and unloading. Not that she was going to fill a taxi several times over.

Deathraystare · 23/12/2024 07:13

@bizzey

Ok Bizzey you got this as you sharpen your elbows to fight for the last items of food!

RosesAndHellebores · 23/12/2024 07:16

@bizzey can't you order a people carrier type taxi?

@Lougle I hope you plough through it. Flowers

When I used to host to big Christmases, (and work up to the end), I used to find the supermarket was pretty empty at 7am, the car park filling when I left at 8am.

I used to get quite a lot in the run up and the meat was usually stashed in the freezer.

SallyWD · 23/12/2024 07:23

We went to Sainsbury's trsterday and the shelves were heaving. Loads of turkeys left and other Christmas foods.

I only have two substitutions but one of them is Guinness!!! I mean, there is no fucking substitute for Guinness!!

I think the corner shop sells it for about £5 a can so I will do that 😂

Wishing peace and love to anyone hitting the Big Shops today or tomorrow.

There is national guinness rationing
you may be out of luck

Brew Dogs sout is really good. And Guinness Porter, yellow label in the glass bottles is still really easy to get.

StopPissingMeOff · 23/12/2024 07:29

@bizzey Does your Sainsbury do 'chop shop'? Mine does and is available now.

The shops close for one day. This is why Christmas does my head in.

Yes, but who wants to spend the rest of the hols in and out of the supermarket? One shop, get it done, then relax please.

PuppiesProzacProsecco · 23/12/2024 05:37

I'd definitely cry if I did this. I'm lying in bed waiting for the asda email that reads "we're sorry but you have 84 substitutions and 16 unavailable items in your order today".

I've already planned a Tesco and M&S run for later to try and get what asda screw up.

You never know might not be too bad - I’ve just had my Asda receipt for my huge shop and only 4 subs which I’m amazed by.
Only disappointment is they’ve subbed my mince pies for cadburys chocolate rolls but the kids will be thrilled 🤣

I really feel for you OP! Hopefully your shop goes ok. You might see some nice extras in store which you wouldn’t otherwise have got!

If you have 10 people staying at / visiting your home from 4pm Christmas eve until 10.30 on the 27th then you need an absolutely enormous amount of 'meal' food, breakfast stuff, nibbles, alcohol, cake etc etc. If you're not eating until 3ish on Christmas day then a bigger breakfast is wise. If you're eating at 12.30ish on Christmas day then evening options will need to be offered. Two sausage rolls and a pickled onion won't cover it. That's why people buy huge amounts. Surely you know this.

Moonchildalltheway · 23/12/2024 07:41

Just got back from my 6.30am trip to Tesco. It was not too bad shopper wise but the aisles were full of the trolleys doing the online shopping.

Rocksaltrita · 23/12/2024 07:46

It’s a trip to the supermarket. Yes, inconvenient and likely busy but not insurmountable. Every year there are threads on here, spreading panic and upset about not being able to buy Xmas Dinner ingredients. I’ve never read a thread where people say this actually happened, rather the opposite, where people end up with loads of last minute markdowns…

FrenchandSaunders · 23/12/2024 07:50

Tesco subbed my celebrations for …… Roses 😳

That's as may be but fresh food doesn't last and needs to be bought close enough to Christmas/Boxing Day to last until 27th at least if you have guests. HTH.

I'd be well happy about that

Beezknees · 23/12/2024 07:58

I went to M&S yesterday and they had plenty of everything. I always do my shopping last minute and manage to get everything no problem.

Firenzeflower · 23/12/2024 07:58

Trying to cancel these things on purpose is amazingly difficult and you managed it accidentally. How super unfortunate.

Taytoface · 23/12/2024 08:13

A couple of years ago we were away in Cornwall for Christmas. No car with us. Had ordered a Tesco delivery in the 23rd, but I managed to deliver it to the wrong house. Had to get in the bus to the nearest Tesco at the crack of dawn. Got pretty much everything, to discover there were no taxis to be had. A local saw me sitting with a mound of shopping took pity and gave me a lift
