I'm on day 3 of this cold feel like absolute shit I got it from my youngest but she's bounced back quick and seems fine now my eldest told me tonight her throat is hurting so I think she's just getting it now. Im crossing everything that we all make a miraculous recovery by Christmas

Me! I’ve been so ill with what I think must have been ‘proper flu despite the flu jab but this is day 6 or 7 and I’m feeling like I’m getting better slowly!

i thought it might be norovirus on top of a cold but flu seems more likely! Haven’t been this ill for over a decade. Just keeping everything crossed no one else gets it.

Temperature, cold symptoms, nausea, fatigue, vomiting, no appetite. Basically spent 3 days in bed. Still struggling with stomach pain and loss of appetite. Everything makes me feel sick apart from the plainest foods!

I really hope everyone else feeling unwell recovers quickly, dreadful time of year to be ill.

Day2 of a cold-felt a bit rough yesterday but dosed up & went to a Xmas do

Utterly selfish to spread it about and risk your colleagues being ill and having a crappy Christmas!

khaitai · 22/12/2024 08:56

I think I've got the flu. I'm on day 4 now and this is the first day I've felt strong enough to have a shower and make myself some breakfast. It has absolutely floored me, I've never felt so ill. Sending get well wishes to anyone going through the same thing.

Out of interest, how many days of constant fever and diarrhoea before you phone 111? I can’t even keep the rehydration drink inside me for more than 2 minutes.

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/diarrhoea-and-vomiting/

The advice is to seek help if more than 7 days. Mine, thankfully, stopped day 7 when I was that ill earlier in the year. A sip of anything went straight through me for the first few days but stayed in longer by day 4.

So who else is ill and hoping to be better for Christmas

We're all well at the minute 🤞🏻 but I'm waiting for the last couple of days soft play outings to hit us with something just in time for Christmas!

It's constant in winter with my toddler, so we've had 4 weeks of nothing after a nasty one before that. I think we're due any day now, just hoping we can keep it away for at least a few more days!

Hope everyone is well for Christmas x

Sorry to read how many folks are poorly, especially at this time of year. I work on a till so get exposed to allsorts - I hate it when customers hold a note in their mouth before giving it to me for example or lick their fingers to separate a bundle of notes. My colleague had to move tills to work next to me because a child threw up but for some reason she thought it was ok to keep on serving - she said that she would wash her hands in a bit! Err no, get out there & wash your hands immediately thanks! Touch wood, I’ve escaped even a cold. Keep meaning to book a flu jab.

AbigailisPartiedOut · 22/12/2024 09:09

I'm on week 3 of a horrible cold/cough virus thing. Husband has managed to avoid it so far but fil is in hospital with double pneumonia. Quiet christmas for us but I at least have christmas day and boxing day off this year so only a couple more days of work to go then I can rest properly.

I said 'a bit rough' - decided was probably exhausted after a long week & had no idea it would turn into a bad cold.

If I stayed home every time i felt a little under the weather I wouldn't be doing very much!

HelpMeGetThrough · 22/12/2024 10:32

I had emergency surgery a month ago, which ended up being a big job.

Have been well on the road to recovery and now one of my bloody scars is infected. Hurts like a bugger and has set me back a bit, which is annoying a few days before Christmas.

My logic is attack the infection from the inside with several medicinal glasses of wine. 😁

Talkabtit101 · 22/12/2024 10:53

I have all the same symptoms DD and DH has had, aside from fever. They've had a 38.5 - 39.5 fever.

I however avoided the fever and upon googling I'm now worried as it says lack of fever means longer illness and more complications.

They've had the coldness / hotness / shivering / no appetite / sleeping all day / high heart rate.

I've had the diarrhoea at the very beginning before family showed issues, and a late and v v unusually painful and heavy period this month.

Diarrhoea for me started Wednesday Monday and then DD fever Thursday night and DH started yesterday morning.

Don't know if it's flu or not.
I hope everyone gets better for Wednesday.

Plus also if you do have this please try and stay at home, we're a young family and I'd read to think how this could affect the elderly/immunocompromised.

I know this time of year it isn't always possible, best wishes. Xmas Smile

HornyHornersPinger · 22/12/2024 11:35

I'm on day 10 of the worst flu ever followed by a horrid sinus infection. Penultimate day of amoxycillin today but still feel no where near human.
If that wasn't bad enough my 7 yo old dd went down with a sickness bug last night, has been vomiting for the last 12 hrs and cannot even keep down a sip of water, we've been camped on the sofa all night because she puked in her bed and we've had no sleep... Oh, almost forgot the shitload of washing I've got to do too!
😭

Movinghouseatlast · 22/12/2024 11:42

Me. I've got Shingles and am feeling very sorry for myself. I've been ill for two weeks now so I've missed all the pre Christmas things I was looking forward to.

I'm really hoping I can enjoy Christmas, but I think I might be the ill person in the corner. Last year I had frozen shoulder in its worst phase so this is my 2nd shit Chistmas on the run.

khaitai · 22/12/2024 11:47

So sorry @Movinghouseatlast that's rubbish. I'm in the same boat as you, had to cancel all my Christmas plans for the second year in a row. I'm taking all the money I didn't spend on Christmas parties and drinks this year and have just booked myself a spa day in January to give myself something to look forward to.

HelpMeGetThrough · 22/12/2024 11:53

That's horrible to have. I've had it and felt bloody awful.

Hope you start to feel better soon.

You could call them after a week but most likely they won't give you anything until after 2 weeks as it's better for your body to get rid of the bug anyway. After 2 weeks with no signs of ceasing I was given Immodium and that did the trick. Keep your fluids up as much as possible so you don't get dehydrated. Don't worry about food too much unless you are already underweight.

emmax1980 · 22/12/2024 12:22

Me, I feel ill, I have a cough, sore throat. I feel tired and aching. It started on Friday with a runny nose.

Ozzyskye · 22/12/2024 12:23

Not me but ds(6). He had a scalding temperature on Thursday and was off food and sleepy. Then yesterday blisters started appearing on hands and feet (not mouth but he did have a sore throat on Thursday). He's fine in himself in the day so we carried on as usually, but can't sleep for the itching and pain - we ended up in a&e* at 1am this morning after 2 hours of inconsolable screaming despite pain relief, antihistamines and an oat bath... Obviously he then settled and drs weren't worried.... D's has had 3 hours of restless sleep and seems fine, I am terrified he will never sleep again!!

  • Didn't want to go to a and e, 111 had a huge wait time and actually called me this morning, nearly 11 hours later despite saying he needed review in the next 1-6 hours
medianewbie · 22/12/2024 12:23

@Catterbat sorry to hear about your Pericarditis. My Ds (20) had Covid last Autumn, Heart Failure in July & Nov MRI showed increase in Myocarditis. Xmas is home alone (me & his sister, who has a bug), keeping warm, doing very little. Best wishes to you for your recovery (rest is extremely important) x

PrincessHoneysuckle · 22/12/2024 12:30

Get pissed tonight.Seriously.
If I feel poorly I get drunk and I'm OK again the next day.Miraculous.

I don’t mean to brag but it’s been 45 minute since I’ve eaten something I haven’t shit brown water 🕺🏿🕺🏿🕺🏿

Rainbow450 · 22/12/2024 12:42

Wishing everyone a speedy recovery - go easy on yourselves and if you feel rubbish then postpone Christmas if you can as the last thing you'll want to do is socialise.

We've all been poorly and only 4/5 weeks in we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. It's just been one germ fest at school.

EVHead · 22/12/2024 13:18

Spent the past couple of weeks seeing colleagues come down with a cold, then boom on Friday night, the start of two weeks’ holiday, I get it. 😡

I’m throwing drugs at it, lots of fluids and hoping for the best.

Fifthtimelucky · 22/12/2024 13:23

I've had a bad cold for the last three weeks. Very unusual for me. I don't think I've ever had one that lasted as long (and as I'm in my 60s that's saying something)!

The sore throat has gone, I'm glad to say, but my nose is still stuffed up and am doing a lot of coughing.

pestowithwalnuts · 22/12/2024 13:27

DH is in hospital at the moment. He has terminal cancer.
He's told them that he'll be coming home tomorrow. His argument is that this will be his last Christmas and he's not spending it eating a NHS Christmas dinner.🥺

medianewbie · 22/12/2024 14:27

@pestowithwalnuts I'm so sorry. I hope you have a very special Christmas indeed xxx
