I hope the verdict brings her some relief but she's the bravest woman I've ever heard of.

I cannot even begin to imagine how Gisele has coped with this revelation and subsequent trial.
Her courage and determination to stand up against her rapist exh and all the other rapists has left me in awe.
I've never been brave enough, but I hope it inspires others 💐

Aintnobodygottime · 19/12/2024 09:40

It’s a big relief that the verdicts went the right way but the BBC is saying that the sentencing is largely lighter than the prosecution requested. Which is frustrating.

Jeezitneverends · 19/12/2024 09:42

I would hope there’s some kind of state funded mental support for her and her children for what they’ve endured

BestIsWest · 19/12/2024 09:43

The sentencing does seem very light.

KenAdams · 19/12/2024 09:43

The BBC are reporting her daughter has fallen out with her because they found pics of her drugged on the laptop too and she didn't feel her mum was supporting her enough.

I'm hoping that gets investigated too?!

Yes, I understand there are precedents but this case has so many factors for which there are no precedent that the sentence could definitely have been longer.

I Hope those rapists also don’t get to keep their anonymity as whenever I see them on tv they have masks on

Gisèle Pelicot trial live updates: Gisèle Pelicot's ex-husband Dominique jailed for 20 years in mass rape trial

The 72-year-old who drugged and raped his ex-wife is being sentenced along with 50 other men in France.

From the BBC

There is a trend emerging here.
the sentences being handed down are generally at least a couple of years lower than what had been asked for by prosecutors..

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 19/12/2024 09:55

Christ it's harrowing scrolling down that list. So many of them. Almost only hits home when you see names in black and white.

And this -

Cyrille Delville is sentenced to eight years.
The father-of-two and former football player admitted to rape and said he didn’t know what to do once he realised she was unconscious: "I froze. I was cheating on my wife."

I mean, WTF? You are a fucking rapist and this is your first thought?!

Gisele is so brave, I have no words to express how incredible is. Hopefully soon she can start the long road towards healing.

Concretejungle1 · 19/12/2024 10:01

She is amazing. I’m horrified by what i have just read.

EarthyMamma · 19/12/2024 10:13

Seeing the list of names of these disgusting men really hits hard. The abstract concept of 100 men laid out so clearly.

As pp said, I hope there is continuing support for Gisèle and her daughters.
Such hurt and pain has awful consequences for victims.

What an amazing woman she is!

And the implication that she was unresponsive but he stuck it in her anyway because he didn't need enthusiastic consent or even a woman who looked awake! Horrific

Thelnebriati · 19/12/2024 10:15

Romain Vandevelde is sentenced to 15 years, which is less than what prosecutors had asked for. He is the man who is HIV+ and raped her without using a condom.
They are all able to appeal.

BitOutOfPractice · 19/12/2024 10:16

Thank goodness. I cried when I read the list, the horrifyingly long list, of guilty verdicts.

She is a magnificent woman. The contrast with the pathetic low life rapists that squirmed and prevaricated throughout the trial is vast.

SprigatitoYouAndIKnow · 19/12/2024 10:16

20 years doesn't seem nearly long enough. I get that he his in his 70's, so will probably die in jail anyway, but it would have been symbolic.

KittenPause · 19/12/2024 10:17

It's just so revolting when you read the very very long list of men and their sentences

KittenPause · 19/12/2024 10:17

Bluebunnylover · 19/12/2024 09:45

The whole point of this is that they will be named and shamed

TheMousePipes · 19/12/2024 10:22

I find the idea that there were this many men willing to rape an unconcious woman on one website, within 50km of her home, absolutely terrifying.
What does this tell us about the people we see around us?
Gisele, you are an inspiration - a truly brave woman - and I salute you.

LivingLaVidaBabyShower · 19/12/2024 10:23

Good.
i hope the fuckers who had the audacity to plead innocent get highly punitive sentences.

Absolute scum

JFDIYOLO · 19/12/2024 10:32

The huge fallout from this vile case - for Gisele and her family, the rapists' wives, children, parents, the implications will be felt for years to come. I wonder if they will all receive help? For so many men, women really are just things.

Jackiebrambles · 19/12/2024 10:35

Very glad they’ve named those disgusting bastards. Hope they enjoy their time in prison.

There were more.

They couldn't track them all down

I think a couple of wives/partners were standing by their men...

Fartughtyred · 19/12/2024 10:42

Its truly horrifying. One of the accused was reported as saying that he didn't need her consent as her husband said it was ok. This tells you all you need to know about the male mindset here in France. The hope is that Gisele Pelicots incredible bravery will result in a change in French law that will take into account the importance of consent. Currently French criminal law defines rape as any sexual act committed by violence, coercion, threat or surprise, with no mention of consent.
